One has to consider this: Either go to college for 3 years paying a total of 300k OR you could take that same money and spend 6 hours with Alex!! I know which one is probably more valuable as a buisness person😂 although since I am from Austria I wouldn't have to pay for college (still not going btw😅). Greetings from Europe!
Thanks for this enlightening video! It really resonated with me, as it clarified things I've always sensed but struggled to put into words. My background is a bit unique-I come from a family that's not particularly well-off, but I'm fortunate to be a scholarship student who commutes daily from home to school. During high school, I saved up to buy a car, which I now use for Uber as I pursue my college education. I'm eager to expand my Uber venture while ensuring it complements rather than detracts from my academic goals. If any of you have insights on how to scale up a side hustle like Uber while optimizing the college experience, I'd love to hear them! And hey, maybe someone could even make a video diving deeper into this issue to help others in similar situations.
Needs to be shown to high schoolers. It'll help them really consider their path. Too many people make it black and white with "College is great" and "college is a scam."
Engineering student here. Took loans out for my first year but quickly dropped out because I decided it wasn't worth it. I used experience from working on cars to land an entry level technician job at an aerospace MRO company, and now they're paying for my engineering degree while I work for them. It takes longer, and it's a hell of a lot harder, but I'll have no debt, a bachelor's engineeing degree, and I'll already be working for a company that will hire me as an engineer.
@@joshua7885That is my point, if it worth it to you. I had friends that took out $15k a semester. I went to school with grants and scholarships along with federal loan. Estimate to go to my school was about $40k a year. If a kid belongs at a university there is money out there, go find those scholarships and grants.
Here in Denmark, we get paid 1k USD every month for a degree LOL We even get access to an INSANLY good loan if we "need" money, like it's basically 2% interest.
As a 20 year old who didn’t go to college and is running a home seevice business let me just say this: it’s hard. Going to college gives you structure, routine, and networking as well as the ability to build these skills exponentially. When you’re on your own, you’re on your own. I’m glad I haven’t gone to college (yet) but I do feel like I’m missing out on the networking aspect with people my age. In day to day I’m dealing with people at least twice my age, and while I’m grateful for that and I’m learning so much, I have little likeminded peers. But again, networking can also be done elsewhere. Hope this helps someone!
If this is something you lack, why don't you go to university and work at your business from there? I have no idea what it may look like. Seems like you have a lot of sales calls. That would be understandable.
Congrats... Join a club also get into sport hobbies to meet people and you can still stay focused and do it alone and socializaw at times . Paddle boarding Skiing Snowboarding Mountain biking Etc etc etc So nice to hear a young person getting after it and being honest... I hated peopley age or even 5 years older .. I rather hang out with younger and older ...the college kids now at least admit it's all a wast of parents money and a psudo vacation like being trapped in Disney land.. Kinda fun .. super creepy and you need a lot of drugs to make it less creepy and enough fun to ignore the massive waste of potential , time money etc . Join a physical hobby type group that you can do alone and with people and throughly enjoy the things alone or with one 2 or 50 people :)( 'Merica. Beeeeya!
Remember this hardness you are feeling is because you are growing faster than 80% of the college goers. The only thing you can mess up is not start saving a slight percentage of profit (if possible) to start investing in safe assets [to eventually give you financial freedom even from your business]
It's not the degree that's the problem, it's what the degree is for as well. Any debt you incur from school for a bachelor may not be worth it with most jobs.
Both are free in many cases. Even many Ivy League schools and experts in their field have publically accessible classes, courses, blogs, etc. nowadays@@DJjussi1
The best EDUCATION I've ever received came from my upbringing in a single mother household, navigating through some extremely tough times. My mother and my circumstances imparted invaluable lessons that have shaped me. It showed me not just what to do, but also what pitfalls to avoid, instilling in me a resilience and determination to overcome any obstacle. At age 10, I was out selling homemade jewelry door to door. My twin and I sold a lot of bracelets. We decided to attempt to change business directions at age 11 and clean houses. My mom put a quick stop to that because we didn’t live in the safest area. Education comes in many different forms. Cheers to much success everyone!
@@iliasplayer8592 That makes sense. Guess I gotta start earning then, I still have 3 years before I go to college. I’ll come back to this comment and let you know when I make it 🚀
@@DiaboloZif you don’t have a rock solid plan then your mom probably made the right choice. Going to college is your best choice if you have the means to and you don’t have a plan otherwise.
In my opinion go to college if you don't plan on being an entrepreneur. I make 60,000 a year and I just turned 21. There's millions of ways to make money but you have to have determination and discipline. There's no teachers giving you deadlines, you are the teacher you are the one that you have to show up for. Everybody can show up for somebody else whether it be a job or school, but in entrepreneurship you have to wake up everyday showing up for yourself and your goals! Also remember this... Procrastination is the Assassination of all Destination!!! If you know you're not mentally strong you might be better off going to college.
Business ownership isn't for everyone. Good point but a focused degree in an in demand speciality is the best to study in. 80 percent of college degrees are toilet paper 🗞️🧻 🚽
My wife went to a major 4 year private university right out of highschool. Has 100k in debt with a bachelor's degree she doesn't use. And is now making way more money in business than she would have in her degree field. If I was 18 I would look for a mentor and take a couple years to make the decision to go to college before just diving in. Too many kids going to school for the wrong reasons.
Thank you for being you Alex. What you do for people is so under sung. This helped me out greatly. Going to go back to school and get my masters in business administration!!!
The answer is relatively simple. Use college for what you need, that doesn't mean get a degree, it means exactly what it says it means. College can provide potential leads, idea generation, and most importantly it can teach you skills that may be useful for the rest of your life. The thing is, none of those things have anything to do with a degree.
I went to LSE for my Bachelors and UCL for my masters (top UK unis) and I started a clothing brand straight out of uni two years ago. I was able to apply maybe 2% of what I learnt (I studied business). But the content Alex releases and his books I’ve been able to apply over 60% of it, and the parts I haven’t I just haven’t gotten to it yet. I also was able to apply more from what I learnt from RU-vid such as adobe photoshop and illustrator skills, Shopify, fb ads, google ads, influencer marketing, editing on CapCut for TikTok’s, importing fabric, working with manufacturers, selling on Amazon, UI/UX design for Shopify etc. my uni didn’t teach me anything except for accounting that I was able to apply… Even a 100 dollar drop shipping course I paid 5 years ago taught me more about business than uni. However I will add that because I was raised in dubai for me personally I don’t regret going to uni abroad as dubai is in a bubble and I benefited from building who I am as a person and I needed more outside perspective of the rest of the world.
@@thatmightvehelped4610 wow I didn’t know he wrote one on time management! I’ll check it out for sure that’s my biggest weakness! I’ve read Dan Kennedy’s books on Sales/marketing (eg ultimate sales letter). Thanks again! In fact, only when I consumed Alex’s content did I realize I was spending my time wrong - I should’ve done one product, one avatar, one channel. I didn’t do that I did all channels - I mean at least I have some experience with all and now know what to focus on.
I'm 17 preparing for universities and Ielts right now. I was watching videos to improve my English and came across with this vidio and get very useful information Thanks❤🎉
As im watching I kept thinking of things that you aren’t considering in college and then you proceeded to discuss it. Very thorough as usual Alex. Thanks for all the work you do. Keep shining ☀️
I am a Medical student because of my parents, but I love entrepreneurship and sales, majorly things to do with running a business. I am now offering email marketing to small businesses while still in school and it's fun, really. I wanted to scale it but I don't want to disappoint my parents by not completing my medical studies. I am stuck on what to do.
As someone with a bachelors and masters degree and the debt to prove it, I wholeheartedly agree with everything Alex says in this video. I've been out of college for 20 years and I have seen the shift in the value of formal education. I'll send stuff like to my college educated (especially who work in education) friends just to be petty and poke fun...lol! In all seriousness, there needs to be a reevaluation of what it means to go to college.
Love it! Design tip: Use ONE COLOR for the “OF” instead of two (I’d choose blue) and it’ll be clearly read as intended without explanation needed. (Especially with the letter “O” so close to the number “0”.)
I really like you brought up race and zip code earnings. Most people would be afraid to talk about that but sometimes it just is a fact. Much respect. Mozination!!!
Race and zip code go hand in hand. Race only really matters because of racially homogeneous populations that historically congregated in certain areas. The same could be said for affirmative action (race based admission) in that socioeconomic factors are better signifiers for benefits programs. In Alex’s case, the focus on race is mostly the fault of the studies he sites. In turn, poorer White and Asian people get mixed signals when he argues that “they get less benefit from a bachelors degree,” which is very income dependent. However, he corrects this with his thoughts on zip codes and first-in-family college graduates. I just wish he would explain the studies or theories behind the stats a little further.
Great video, I wouldve loved to see the military to free bachelor's route in this plan. It's been an amazing path for me that has blessed me with both skills, credentials, and personal branding. I'm now 24 with 2 houses and a successful business
Dropped out at 16. My gf at the time talked me into getting my ged at 18. Entered automotive sales at 21, entered management at 24 and have made 6 figures and as high as 250k/ yr the past 8 years. Anything is possible. Great video/content Alex 👌
Something about college that people seem to be forgetting is the learning itself. I’m studying chemistry and the classes I’ve taken have made me notice new things about the world around me, and given me an appreciation for learning. Honestly, in the past I could have learned all this stuff from textbooks that I pirated online for free, but I wouldn’t have, because without these classes I wouldn’t have felt the drive that I feel now to keep learning. Also, the kind of job I want to do in the future depends on going to college, and the networking and research opportunities at my college are extremely important for standing out. (I want to go into lab work.) There’s no real answer for if college is worth it or not, it depends on what you want to do in your life. Your success regardless of your education depends on your resourcefulness, intelligence, maturity, and lastly, a s**t ton of luck
That’s me right now I’ve watched Alex hormozi for almost 6 months now. I’m 17 and I started 3 buisnesses since I was 15. And I’ve generated a 5 commercial pressure washing contracts with gas stations, then I install Christmas lights during Christmas and I own a window tint buisness. The pressure washing I don’t manage barely it’s like clock work. But everything else I manage and I make pretty good money and I’m paying all my parents debt and my own debt. My dad wants me to go to college but my other sibilings already went and I didn’t see a big improvement I was told it was going to do in their life. Love the video Alex.
The insights on scaling businesses in this video are spot on. A key tactic often overlooked is leveraging existing customers for referrals; a warm lead from a trusted source can dramatically increase conversion rates. Always nurture those relationships-it's like compound interest for your client base.
Freaken love this, as a person that has a double degree, certifications in IT and cloud computing as well as professional designations in an industry that requires me to have it for licensing purposes I own a boutique real estate business plus I work for a 7 figure marketing agency as a consultant. It took me 10 years to work to learn and qualified to this point where I leverage my salary to pay my expenses while my business has flexibility to scale as it grows. Don’t let people tell you that you can do both. Oh and I still have time to go out on weekends, gym and I love gaming!!! So I make time for what I enjoy. If you can balance yourself and focus on 1 task at a time you will be fine
same lowkey wasn't considering college at all but I don't wanna be isolated, so I'm gonna enroll as like a part time student only to network and play sports, but mainly I'm gonna focus on my business, sport, and connecting with people. With these new ai tools cheating would be so easy.
If you don’t have a solid plan then go to college. It gives you a few years to decide on your path, allows for some structure in your life, and you get a lot of added benefits. You could also do community college for 2 years and transfer to an instate college to save a ton of money. College is almost always the most worthwhile option.
I have a general idea of what I want to do. I want to be a software engineer for a few years then start my own thing whether thats a startup or just something else tech related. all I know is that I want the big bucks. I just don't know if getting a cs degree would be easier for me to get jobs rather than self learning it.@@cadenceew7933
My dad was a PhD medical professor, he encouraged me to explore all career options. For me personally I went to a 2 year and honestly not only did the field I studied for sucked but I got little value from that education. Now I have a job that required no degree making substantially more. College is not for everyone, I would suggest to young people fresh out of high school to work a little first.
Yhank You for Your work! This video was helpfull. I ended 8th grade, i live in Moldova. 14yo, in 2 months will be 15yo. My biggest enemy now is my family that leans me back. Thought i have hope in my life. I believe i will be successed. I have to use my mind and to make right decisions to be successful. The amazing and full-of-information videos like Your will help me to get knowledge i need to make right decisions... I work and I will continue to work so my life will be meaningfull.
Who needs college when you are subscribed to Alex Hormozi's RU-vid channel? Great vid, thanks for going in depth on this important topic, I always appreciate your angle on these matters.
This is the first video I’ve seen on RU-vid that doesn’t completely shut out the College option. It doesn’t necessarily choose a side and presents a more unbiased decision, covering a wide array of pros and cons. I personally was able to work hard enough to earn a full ride scholarship at a public university, so I always say. If you can afford college, go to college. If you can’t afford college, don’t go to college. It really does all come down to cost.
My rebuttal is that you can get scholarships and work the same time in school, for my bachelors, I only paid 20k, graduated in 3 years, but also worked 60 hours+, it comes down to time management and opportunities
I did something similar. I used CLEP tests and dual enrollment courses to graduate with an associates degree at the same time I got my hs diploma. Then I worked full time while knocking out the last two years at an online program at a state school that offered tuition at $3000 per year. I was able to knock out two bachelors degrees and an associates for $7000 while working. We both gave up “the college experience,” but we have plenty of time to get drunk with friends.
I went to college for business and my professor said “class, you better not be in business so you can make $100,000 a year. Because most of you won’t”. I dropped out the next day and invested into a business and made $100,000 that year. Lesson…. The school of self learn for business exceeds learning from a professor who doesn’t even own a business.
Yeah, I know you’re lying because you’re not explaining what business you have not even telling us how you did it, for me I went into e-commerce, and making 2K a month paying for ads and learning how to find a good product people do it all the time on Amazon or Etsy just making your own type of products like flipping furniture is a good business model. This comment does not provide any information.
As a latino born in a poor family, college completely transformed my life. The zip code variable is so true! Now I make 5x more money than my parents and I'm just starting my career. I intend to double it in the next 2 years when I have my own business. I earned a 100% scholarship, so no loan to pay. This is the most complete and honest video I saw about the topic. There's nothing like it in my native language. Only rich people trying to convince poor people to not study, so they'll have cheap labor forever.
Thank you Alex. I wish I had this information when I was younger. It's giving me an understanding of where I should head in my career. You are an inspiration to young men. Kudos to you. Give this man his flowers.
You go anywhere but nerver avoid Health . Stay fit. By the way this video tells the reality. This video is very informative. One more thing I read your book $ 100 M offers.😊 ❤ I love this book.
Go to college 100% I have made tons of good networking on my college days. That network makes my business fly to millions of dollar until today 11 years of doing business. My advice to those gen Z. Just go to college get a degree learn to be proactive. Learn to be decipline. And the important things is make a good network that will benefit you after college
Man, I've been on the Mozi train for a couple years now, but THIS is an excellent video. THIS is the shit that matters. Videos like this change the world for the better.
I have a bachelors and masters in law from the UK! I absolutely LOVE LOVE this video! I LOVED my law degrees love reading studying the legal word, however, this video is a masterpiece every word is sooo true! Even though he is using USA as an example I think what he's saying applies to the globe.
Thank you for putting this video out! Young people really need to watch this. I went the college route (was the first in my family to get a bachelor degree) and have been in the engineering profession for 17 years now and am a top performer at the company I work for. If I hadn't gone to college, I wouldn't be in the field that I am simply because the field I work in requires a college degree. That said, I would probably be just as successful, possibly more so if I hadn't gone to college and chose a different path, just because of who I am as a person. With the current environment depending on what path my daughter wants to go down, I'm hard pressed to recommend her go to college. Like you said with the cost of college these days more and more fields of study aren't worth the college expense, plus she can take advantage of the network I have developed to help kick start a career in just about any field she might want. As for the financial side of things, one way to reduce the cost of college (which is something I did) is go to a local community college for the first couple of years. This will save on tuition, housing, etc. Also since you mentioned college debt cannot be discharged in bankruptcy, if you incurred that debt on starting a business or what have you, that debt can be discharged or at least restructured through bankruptcy.
I live in a bad zip code living with my parents who are pretty poor. I want to go to college and so I think college is best for me. Take this comment as an example of making an informed decision. Also, I am Mexican. :)
WOWWW I am watching this video with a big interest! And i am amazed how much studies and confirmed facts there was showed!! You put a lot of afford in this video.. i wanted to write some comments so RU-vid will provide the video and so the affords would get payed
As a low income college student on a full ride at an ivy league school, this is the single best piece of content around college that I have ever seen. It's just a matter of weighing pros and cons
@@prozper.they didn’t answer you so I will. They had to have amazing grades just to get accepted to ANY Ivy League. Then they look at financials and have a ton of financial aid available to lower income families.
As a college student in one of the "top 20" universities, I would even say that it's not an immediate go-to-college if you get in to one. And Alex didn't mention this, but it's also important to look at the career you might go into. If you know what career you want to go into, and it's something that college won't give you efficient value for, don't go, even if it's a top college.
That was incredibly insightful, I'm 19 and I'll definitely use this video and gather my thoughts about it in the coming weeks and months. What really spoke to me was the moment you talked about having to take college seriously. I pondered about it but couldnt have put it to better words myself. I cant thank you enough
I’m going to college as: A. The back up plan - having any accredited certification is always good. B. The soft skills and networking that I want to develop during college.
Thank you SO much, Alex. I have decided to go to college and earn a degree in psychology because I come from a zipcode where I literally don't have any growth advantages. If by any chance I decided not to go to college, I would have been married off to someone by the age of 22, anyhow. I really want to become a great entrepreneur, but at the same time I want to do something related to the field of psychology. I took this subject in high-school and I loved it. Fortunately, I come from a stable family, and I can go to college without going into any kind of Debt. Also, none of them in my family had the privilege of getting a formal education like I do, so I believe that I should make the most out of it and make the best life for myself. It's for a fact I know that I am not doing a Job, be it in the government or corporate world. Never going for a white collar or a blue collar "job". It's just not for me, I guess I will end up following the path of Ali Abdaal, I mean that dude literally became an entrepreneur while pursuing a degree in neurology from Cambridge, I can do it way easily while pursuing a degree in psychology from a central university in India. It's an easy subject than neurology and course is way easier than it would've been in an Ivy League. Either ways, I will give my all to be a great learner and end up doing what I always wanted to do. Thanks a lot for creating such videos, lots of love❤
Really appreciate this nuanced breakdown of school/no school. I think it's spot on 💯 I went back 4 years ago at 28, but only because my friend convinced me to use my GI Bill, which essentially paid me to go. I told her I would only do it if animation was offered as a major & that year just so happened to be the first one. Then, I vlogged the entire journey on social & shit got wild 🤯 Ended up designing billboards in Time Square, working with Pokémon Go's AR technology, & spent this last summer learning in Rome. Definitely one of my best decisions personally. But! The degree was just for me to use on my own business 😂
I went to college. Met no one I talk to now. I dropped out and got a job in a bigger city now I have a network of wealthy people that have helped me scale much faster. I only think college is for people who need to go for a career they’re passionate about.
Getting education from a college/university is not a waste of time. getting education from RU-vid "influencers" isn't bad either. But since many "influencers" tell naive young people that they have the "magic" key to make 6 figures in less than 6 months and that key is to get their millionaire course for only $3999.99, is an easy way to get scammed. These days demand to use an hybrid education system, while school feels like something unnecessary today, Internet education is oversaturated with trash information. Be smart, always have a plan b, and learn at least 3 work skills apart from education to thrive in the hard times coming.
Your assessment of influences is a gross exaggeration. Reputable RU-vidrs add real value. The fact you think having Plan B is wise tells me you're not an entrepreneur. The most successful entrepreneurs don't have Plan B.
I’m 17 and dropped out of college, i’m in Quebec, Canada, so it doesn’t quite work the same but I was in the equivalent of college. I’ve known for a year that I would dedicate my youth to focus on myself and make the right moves to one day be financially free. My journey so far is going well, progress is being made every day even tho it’s hard to see while living your life. I just started selling cars two days ago for a car dealership and i’m aiming to stay there and stack as much money as I can for the next years to then give me more leverage when I start a project. Your vids and podcasts have helped me a lot. Thanks Alex, keep the amazing content up!
I’ve been debating this decision for months because I am a senior now. I got into Babson which is a pretty good school for entrepreneurship but I come from an upper middle class family so I don’t think I will derive much benefit. It’s still a lot to consider, thanks for the vid
