WRITING/WORK STUFF
Macbook Air. Doesn’t really need my recommendation. amzn.to/3soroc2
iPAPA laptop case: amzn.to/3slflwf
Mind-Reader adjustable/portable laptop desk. I LOVE this thing. Typing with my arms at an angle has drastically reduced elbow/wrist pain. amzn.to/2OYh0tX
Bluelight blocker glasses: amzn.to/2VAG51u
Best writing pens, hands down. I use them every time I revise a book. amzn.to/311nRoP
Acer monitor. I kind of hate the word gamechanger but this really was that kind of purchase. amzn.to/3vH71Kh
Brother laser printer. I won’t lie, this thing is a behemoth. But I’ve had it since 2017 and I think I’ve had maybe one paper jam? It works great, it’s super consistent, A++ for printing manuscripts. amzn.to/3tzIvZE
Alphasmart Neo2. Highly highly recommend. amzn.to/3cStKui
I'm a Skillshare Ambassador! I've been binging their courses on filmmaking and video editing, as well as writing, but there's all kinds of stuff for creative types! Try it out FREE for two week! skillshare.eqcm.net/RyG57R
COFFEE STUFF
Ninja coffee maker. amzn.to/31533Nu
Cold brew pitcher. amzn.to/3cSKVM9
Zulay milk frother. amzn.to/3r7DDJu
VIDEO MAKING STUFF
Canon G7X Mark iii camera. I love the flip up screen (ie, you can see yourself as you film) and the fact that there’s a mic port. amzn.to/3r9BfCb
Savage studio lights. I mostly use these for ‘talking head’ videos. amzn.to/3r7G6Un
Ubeesize 10” ring light. That’s the little guy sitting on my desk. I mostly use it for vlogging. amzn.to/31hqpzD
JJC mini tripod. amzn.to/3feXxjJ
Rode clip mic. amzn.to/2OSaLb2

D'aww. What a cute Rosa feature! And happy anniversary! I think I found your channel a couple months into the "panini," and I've enjoyed it ever since. 🙂

To the person who asked if your inner critic stops you being able to proceed with your writing - I get this a lot. The way I move myself forward is to find a book on Amazon in my genre that really sucks. I read the "Look Inside" Amazon preview and by the end of it I don't feel so bad about my own efforts! I know it sounds a bit mean but it helps me put the quality of my own writing in perspective. Hope that helps 🙂

That's honestly a really great idea! I'll admit, I read a ton of mystery/thrillers and a lot of them are...mediocre. It is a weird little ego boost.

Great tips, Michelle! Especially the Queen of Publishing question! I'm proud to say that I was an early bird subscriber, it's AMAZING how your channel has evolved in 3 years. Remember "Writing Workshop Wednesdays" and "Friday Fiction Fixits"? Good times. And Rosa is still as ADORABLE as ever. Have a great weekend, Michelle! Hi Rosa :-)

HA! Okay - those videos were so fun to make but looking back, I'm not sure how I was putting out three a week. Thank you SO much for watching all of these years! I hope your writing is going great!!

Happy three year anniversary on the channel Michelle! You always have lots of wisdom to share and we all appreciate you! I really wish you were queen of the publishing industry because I'm definitely struggling in the query trench again right now for my debut novel. I'm not sure whether its my query letter, my premise or my writing just sucks on the the novel sample chapters or simply the agents are just so overloaded and i'm getting lost in their query submissions lists and or getting passed by.. It's hard to keep positive and to find the right agent and agency that is currently looking for middle grade fantasy manuscripts.. I also don't have someone to bounce off things with so that is also hurting me atm, trying to find trusted beta readers. I'm quite depressed as of late by all of this waiting process but I keep going hoping something will happen. I always look forward to your positive outlook and videos as always!
@MichelleSchustermanAuthor
@MichelleSchustermanAuthor Год назад
Thank you so much!!! And I'm so sorry you're struggling, and I don't know if this helps or if it'll just make it worse, but - EVERYONE is struggling to get an agent right now. You aren't alone, and it isn't necessarily your writing. Plus (as I'm sure you know), B&N's MG policy is making things extra rough for us MG authors! That said, I spend a lot of time looking at manuscript wish lists, and there are absolutely still agents and editors our there looking for MG fantasy. Finding a great critique partner would also be super helpful! Have you tried joining any writing forums or communities?

@@MichelleSchustermanAuthor Hi Michelle! Thanks! Yeah it's been tough.. I know im not unique in that regard... I have my manuscript out to 4 agents on this round atm just waiting after most recent revisions but for a couple it's been months with no word... i made the early mistake of sending it out last year before it was ready too... i am unsure if it needs even more work as the wordcount is still a bit high.. as far as reading groups, im looking for connections to trusted people who are able to provide feedback. I am in the dark right now... So far I am unsure of how to find these people or small groups that are trust worthy and helpful. Any suggestions? I also cant afford atm to pay for professional critiques either so struggling on what to do next...

Happy anniversary! My RU-vid friends are the only positive thing to come out of the panini for me. I'm so glad I found your channel. I love your videos. And your books are fun to read, no matter what a person's age is. A Dog's Meow is sooooo goooood!!!! Your ability to see the world through animals' eyes made that book magical. Okay, enough gushing. LOL Wishing you a fantastic 2023!

Just to say there's more than one way of getting published. I don't do trad publishing because I prefer to self publish for the control it gives me but I have been approached by two publishers, one on each of the unrelated pen names I write under. They contacted me out of the blue, one an imprint of Harper Collins and one a small publisher but a big name in that genre. So if you write good books in your chosen genre then you will get noticed. Publishers look at what's selling and want more of the same.
@MichelleSchustermanAuthor

Happy channel anniversary! I haven't been here that long but you are one of my favorite authortubers just because of your frankness and experience with traditional publishing and MG. Speaking of which, the other day I completed the first draft of my MG fantasy novel!

That was eye-popping, for sure...o.o Happy for her, I think she's super talented, but WOW. Publishers need to stop telling authors and agents they can't afford to up an advance or royalty terms or marketing budgets.
