Unlike some people out there who actually kiss their pets, their saliva enters their mouth which later causes 1000 different diseases and in some cases their limbs need to be amputated. A piece of advice, keep your logic to yourself and do not intervene in such affairs.
Its not stupid at all. When you are trying to please your creator you want to avoid doing things as to not invalidate your prayer. Think of it like chemistry, when synthesizing a solution properly you need exact measurements, the correct storing temperatures, etc. Religion is a science, if you were filling the gas for a divers tank you cant just say “we should add 15% oxygen to this canister and 85% nitrogen because I feel like it”, you need evidence that the amount of gas will allow the diver a proper influx of oxygen without getting nitrogen narcosis. Its the same with Islam.
