Just a little insider information: after the stream ended, Doug kept the code on, pretended he forgot to turn it off, and made a discord and chat announcement saying it was safe about 20 minutes later when most chatters had moved on. He proceeded to kill maybe 50 more gullible chatters that night, and all he could say in discord after the massacre was "Gottem." I was one of these chatters. EDIT 2: I give up.

It's definitely because people are using their other accounts, because when you are banned I think you still count as a viewer, you just can't chat (or maybe that's different to timeout) so people use another account and leave the banned one still watching.

Doug puts a LOT of effort into cultivating his chat community. Almost all viewers start on youtube, and his vids put a huge emphasis on chat interaction. New chatters want to be a part of that community so participate earnestly. Its all very well executed by doug, and the effort in the long term has majorly paid off.
