At 3:49 there's no need to remove the flex cables to remove the battery. Simply warm up the screen side on low 80C setting on a heat plate for about 3 minutes, bend the flex cables over to the screen side and apply a bit of tape to hold it, pull or pry the battery, and it comes out nice and easy. And for heaven's sake, please don't inject any rubbing alcohol under the battery, while it evaporates, it can damage the sensitive AMOLED if it seeps under the screen. I do this every day at my repair shop, saves a lot of time and aggravation. ;)

What’s crazy is all these phone companies can use a nice clamp that sits over the battery and utilizes the other screw spots. I don’t see the need for any adhesive. Just need a nice cushion so the battery doesn’t shake around.

@TheMaychalPl

That's pretty much what Sony use to do in their Xperia phones. The Xperia Z2 had a battery in plastic housing, that was held just by two philips screws and two clamps. The phone was still as slim as their newest phones
@BillAnt
@BillAnt 4 месяца назад
They could simply use two metal or plastic brackets held down by a couple of screws. Mind blown! ha-ha
@kuchenblechmafiagmbh1381
@kuchenblechmafiagmbh1381 4 месяца назад
@@TheMaychalPl Had that on a Fujitsu Lifebook U904, it's just 19mm thin, so similar to a MacBook Air, but the U904 and also the newer U938 are really modular: they have a soldered CPU (the U series were never made socketed), but RAM slot (some RAM is soldered on but they have a SODIMM slot for expansion), M.2 SSD (7mm 2.5" in the U904) and WiFi and mobile Broadband "WWAN" modules, all these parts are socketed. They also have a very fancy Ethernet port that you pull out and then it unfolds, IMHO it shows that Apple took the easy, lazy way to simply ditch the ethernet port since the Retina MacBook Pros instead of developing such a thing. And the battery isn't glued in with a ton of that but held by a plastic "carrier" with a few screws.
@jarboer
@jarboer 4 месяца назад
That might be dangerous tho if the battery expands. If it has no room to expand it will just burst instead which is very dangerous

This is what I love about android, the repairability, only a single screwdriver to remove all the internals. No matter how easy iPhones's displays are easily replaceable, but I'll still take the android route since android phones have less parts to work on
@DarkSteamC
@DarkSteamC 4 месяца назад
Exactly this. Not only less stuff to work on, but you don't have to worry about losing BASIC functionality if you want to fix your screen.. iPhone screens are super friggin easy to replace... but what's the saying? Nothing worth it ever comes easy? I'm heavily considering abandoning the newer iPhone repairs in my shop... At least until I'm able to effectively do some chip swaps.

I think the strong adhesive on the battery softens out with the time. You have to remember you are removing a brand new phone, with a brand new battery. With the vapor chamber being attached to the battery too, it will transfer head along the adhesive, so I think it so minimize battery movement on the near future, and also minimize battery incidents (aka note 7) Edit: Well, to everyone, thats why I started with "I think", thanks for the explanations and personal experiences
@klopferator
@klopferator 4 месяца назад
I don't know about that. I can't say anything about Samsung or Apple, but when I replaced the battery on my over 10 year old Kindle, the adhesive in the device was still extremely strong. I don't believe they are accounting for softening of adhesives over time when they design these things.

Running android 9 here. I think the Galaxy S8 and S9 are the best looking phones Samsung ever made, with the very thin frame at the side that curves out a bit at both ends. They are a bit slippery to hold though without case. (and tech wise pretty much outdated, although they have USB-C, Qi charging, a good oled screen, reasonable memory, wifi 5, NFC, gyro sensor etc. Pretty good for a phone that is now almost 7 years old (the S8 that is)

I hope the tech world sees some new innovations soon, like Apple Vision Pro. The smartphone formula is kind of perfected already, the only real thing to improve would be the build quality and ease of repair. Instead of spending all the research on making the camera better, they should make a phone more modular and get rid of the glue. I don't like the idea of glue at all, it has to be possible to make it water tight without glueing. I hope your vchannel reaches 1 million soon! Your videos are amazing!

For adhesive like that it's important to apply rapid hard forces than an even ramping pulling force. Otherwise you'll end up pulling a lot harder than you need to. Think of it like loosening a rusty nut, a few taps with a reasonably light hammer requires a lot less force to break it than a breaker bar and body weight.

I have the S 23 ultra but there’s still a lot of old games that don’t work on android 14 because it’s too new and the games that I like to play are too old so I still keep some old android phones around just to play those old games and I do love the old OSs too

It's worth mentioning not to use too much alcohol when softening up battery adhesive because some models have the fingerprint scanner under the battery that can become damaged...

I think Samsung 'soft cementing' their batteries in place with adhesive comes from paranoia from the Note 7 days. Even though it was more of a manufacturing defect combined with giving zero breathing room for the battery. At least a pull tab is better than zero so combined with alcohol and some heat it's safer to pull out than prying it out and risk puncturing.

On the Samsung trying to be Apple thing, I recently went to the Highpoint Apple store to have them do something about the broken rear mic on my 15 Pro Max (which they covered under warranty and had replaced the rear-glass assembly within 2 hours), and I noticed across from Apple and one floor down was a dedicated Samsung store, and it looked just like the Apple store but 1/4 the size and with less people inside. It was actually kind of funny.

Two processors for this phone? Obviously it depends on what part of the world you are in. I think the Snapdragon variant is for the US model while the Exynos variant is used everywhere else.

When has the battery moving around inside the case ever been an issue? I never heard about it being an issue back in the Android 4 days when you could expect your phone to have a removable battery; the only time my Galaxy note 3 used to switch off randomly due to a battery moving was because the battery was starting to swell and would lose contact with the pins.
@legosavantfun2723
@legosavantfun2723 4 месяца назад
the old removable batteries had a hard shell built into them, unremovable ones are a lot softer but with how the phones laid out just a tiny bit of double sided tapes probably enough to keep it still

Also, my main phone, Samsung Galaxy S9+, is rocking Android 10, which although reasonably modern, is the last supported OS for many apps nowadays, and the critical apps are now Android 7.0+. So it seems that I might be getting a phone upgrade after all soon. Might also buy that folding Motorola as a secondary device - never had the chance to use a folding phone before ;)

4:18 wait, you were able to get it out *without* breaking the pull-tab!? All the newer Samsungs with that that I have done, I've never been able to do that without breaking the pull-tab, thus going back to the iso to get the battery out. It's weird, because for Oppos or Huaweis or Xiaomis it's not a problem, but for Samsung it feels like it's much harder than it should be.
