It's the 21st of October, 1805 Napoleon Bonaparte and his first French Empire are on a path to military domination in mainland Europe. Later that year, he'll enjoy one of his greatest victories in the Battle of Austerlitz as he looks to rule the entire continent.
Yet he also faces another enemy away away from the east and across the English Channel Britain and its feared Royal Navy, led by Vice Admiral Lord Nelson. But the French aren't alone. Allied with Spain, Vice Admiral Pierre Charles Villeneuve has both French and Spanish fleets at his disposal.
Nelson knows these need to be destroyed, and this culminates in a dramatic battle off a cape nicodes on Spain's southwest coast, Trafalgar.
What would have happened if the British lost?

Agreed, I was surprised to see how few videos are on the channel so far, coming out the gate with an excellent sense for production and ability to source experts

What if Napoleon won the battle at Waterloo?
@GairBear49
@GairBear49 14 дней назад
If Napoleon had won Waterloo, he still would have to defeat a large Austrian army and a large Russian army. Not an easy task!
@jonm2438

He would of lost soon after . France was economically drained by Waterloo and there were still the Austrians and Russian armies mobilizing.

Napoleon's fleet winning at Trafalgar? Doubtful that the remaining French/Spanish fleet , after such a fight, would be in any condition to sail to the Channel, defeat the Channel Fleet, and support any cross-channel invasion. I suspect that Nelson, if he couldn't destroy the French/Spanish fleet, would at least want to, by his mix-it-up tactics,cripple it.

Congratulations on a fascinating channel. One battle of huge significance (in reality and as a 'what if' scenario) is the Battle of Teutoburg Forest in 9CE as it divided Europe. Could you please analyse this battle on your channel.

Great description and analysis. What about the battle of the Alamein (1942), what if the Germans had won and invaded Egipt and take the Suez Canal ?
@agamemnonhatred

They would have to locate Egipt on a map first

Just one HUGE fault with the premise, Nelsons fleet was not the only British fleet available to fight the French navy, nor was it the largest British fleet, and nor was he the only very capable Admiral in the RN. Nelson had in his command Three 1st Rates, Four 2nd Rates and 20 Third Rates....The Channel Fleets had between them Eight 1st Rates, Five Second Rates and Sixteen Third Rates ACTIVE ships of the line, plus many more in ordinary which could be quickly activated by the time Napoleon had turned his army around and returned to the Channel from Austria. So even if the situation was reversed and some of the British ships were captured and survived the Storm, its just not going to work. There is no way on earth that the French were ever going to get across the channel to invade, he had far less a chance of achieving that, than the Spanish did in 1588....and it would be a better land campaign to simulate where Spain gets the army amassed in the Spanish Netherlands into England

You should contact warlord games and see if you can use some of their minatures and scenery for the map table. It would make things much more atmospheric

Suggested historically pivotal battles to consider: Hastings, Tours, and Poltava. Just think about it!

Another unforeseen is Australia may well have gotten split in 2 as the French could have sailed out that far and establish control (conjecturally) over the Western Half of Australia. The Colony was only in Sydney at that stage. The French explorer Baudin had seen quite a bit of Southern land too

Never even contemplated, much less addressed the question in the title of the video; what happens if the British LOST THE BATTLE. Now I know that is a very unlikely outcome (given all we know), but it was your choice of title, so…
