Bruce Lee once said, "Be water, my friend." It's a simple phrase, but it captures his whole philosophy. Water can flow, or it can crash. In life, being like water means adapting to any situation, overcoming obstacles with grace, and never losing the essence of who you are. Despite facing racism and injury, Lee's resilience and dedication to martial arts not only broke barriers but also transformed him into a global icon. His legacy teaches us that with enough perseverance, we can shape our path and flow past any challenge life throws at us.

Bruce Lee was my idol during my quest to achieve a Black Belt in the seventies. His profound techniques were impressive indeed. I’m in my seventies and I still train daily. Bruce Lee is responsible for making Martial Arts an integral part of my life! Thank you for this very informative RU-vid video. DRJDC

I met Bruce in Swindon's Bookstore in Hong Kong in March or April 1973. While examining a book on Japanese combative arts called Classical Bujutsu, by Donn Draeger, I noticed a young Chinese man wearing a baseball cap and pink sun glasses siding up to me. He then asked, are you a martial artist? I explained that I was a student of martial arts but wouldn't call myself a martial artist yet. He laughed, took off his classes and introduced himself as Bruce Lee. I told him my name and he said, "You're wearing my name on your jacket!" (At that time I was wearing a jacked with the Chinese character for "dragon" [long 龍] embroidered on the left breast area and I did not know his real name was Lee Shao-long [少龍] "Little Dragon.") We talked for about 15 minutes but it was mostly him telling me about his movie career. 🙂 Big ego but he came across as a nice guy. I thought about contacting him again later but two month or so later he passed away. That was a sad day.

To this day, Bruce is still the Master/GOAT martial artist up there with the greats like Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, Gretzky, and the list goes on. He inspired so much people. There is a reason why so many celebrities/atheletes a mixed of who's who at that period went to Bruce to learn the ways of martial arts "Jeet Kune Do" . There have been many that have come close like Jackie Chan & Jet Lee... but no one has the well rounded skills Bruce had, incredible stamina, speed, ferocity in his fight montages that we were lucky to capture at his fight expositions.. And even though he was a ferocious fighter he still had a balance with the philosophy and incorporating it into his martial arts and well being. Humanity lost alot when Bruce past away at such a young age of 32 but he left a Legacy and we are lucky to have the glimpses of this incredible fighter captured on film and amateur footage. If it's any human I would've loved to meet in person it would've been Bruce Lee as I mentioned before he was so well rounded with his fighting skills but also. in tune with philosophy of well being. There was a reason why there was a famous song called "Everyone was Kung Fu Fighting"....what an impact he had back then and to this day. What a true Legend. "Be Water My Friend"

I like how humble and honesty Bruce character is, he never claim to be greatest he speak the truth, he said Ali can dominate him in the street fight, he also said if TMA vs boxing or wrestling, boxing wrestling will won. He known what is reality, he accepts and learn from it, Bruce Li is definitely ahead of his time

As a martial artist as all of us owe Bruce for glamorizing and popularizing eastern fighting to Mainstream America, can’t leave out Chuck, they were hundreds and hundreds of high ranked instructors pouring in a opened the best dojos in the world in the 70’s but it was these two that brought the mystic and supernatural almost occult alure to the arts that either sucked young men like me right in or scared the hell out of people, when I recieved shodan in Shotokan I had very intelligent people askin me if i went down to the police station and registered my hands as lethal weapons thats hilarious but thats the Gods honest truth people really believed that when promoted to black belt you had to go register your hands and feet as deadly weapons to the authorities then people believed that if you were brown or black belt and wether you were at fault it not even getting attacked you wasnt aloud to use your Art because thats trained lethal force theyll come and arrest me lol, and the best one i heard a zillion times, yeah you might take me with that karate stuff but nit in a real street fight? Like we all have a switch in the middle of our back one set on master of hand to hand combat or switch to drunken hay maker sluggfest which is what they refer to streetfighting, If you have any taught and learned technique then its not Street fighting, so their definition of streetfighter was someone that doesn’t know how to fight hahah Anyway bruce was a perfectionist that had the discipline to throw backfists at a suspended tennis ball for 10 hours a day and was a perfect technion but unbeatable the best in the world, dont know if he was ever put in life or death defense but doesnt matter we owe him and chuck ir i do because i loved the arts the techniques the tradition the culture language and everything but thanks to bruce and chuch i recieved that extra reputation where people thought i could jumo spin kick a regulation basketball net hahahhah Dont know who they saw 30 years ago but wasnt me hahah

One inch punch is from an art known as bone breaking... Bruce learned it. He loved to fight, most his adult life he would meet the other students of the arts and they would fight. Bruce had to ask how to train to achieve it. Bruce won the right to hear the training, and he only exhibited 1/2 the complete motion. There is a man who learned it, he also uses 1/2 motion to break a chestnut. The difference of using the complete motion is shattering to the walnut. The actual art trains one to break bones when defending. The punch is all anyone knows of the art, but the best part is the self-defense aspects of bone breaking. Seek and you will find.

Bruce Lee refused to fight anybody. Full contact karate came to the US in 1971, led by Joe Lewis. It was going since the 1960's by the Kyokushin karate organization in Japan. Bruce Lee refused all invitations to fight. His so-called closed-door fight with non-fighter (instructor) Wong Jack Man, who weighed 130, ended with a winded Bruce Lee quitting after getting punched around (according to Wong). Lee misrepresented what happened. Wong publicly challenged him to a fight before the public. Lee refused as always.

Bruce Lee theorised fighting, the mechanics and the emotions behind it, while drawing lessons from physical phenomena like water and their applications to mma. Yes he was an actor, but I'm yet to see one with such a passion, he philosophised combat. He described the art and understood the science. He was the cheat sheet.

The most insane fight was when he fought a champion from China so he could teach King Fu in America to Americans, and get the blessing of the Chinese elders. And after Bruce won, the guy snuck up on Bruce after the match kicked him and broke his back. You never hear if the guy ever saw punishment for that dastardly low hand blow laid upon Bruce. And when I hear that, that really pisses me off. To hear that someone cannot accept defeat in a match of any sport. Then cheats. I hope the guy was caste out of China.Well, maybe that's what he would actually want huh? I don't know how they handle such things. It just pisses me off.

I love Bruce and respect him for everything he did for martial arts, but I honestly think that a better than average collegiate wrestler would have given him a run for his money. I mean, sure, one inch punch, super impressive, but did you happen to notice that every instance of its use was against a compliant participant, not a motivated assailant? Also, the “target” wasn’t moving, not even a gentle sway and that isn’t something you’ll often see in a fight that isn’t for TV/movies. Fights are more often than not hectic as fuck with so many variables that attempting to predict them all is as foolish as it gets. Again, not taking anything away from Bruce, he’s a GD legend. I’m just saying that I wish there was real deal footage of him fighting! Not tournament rules point fighting with referees and timekeepers, etc. but real fucking scraps where the two individuals aren’t shaking hands and bowing beforehand. I’ve never been in a fight outside of the ring where we waited for the bell or touched gloves before getting after it. I wish we could have seen what Bruce really had because all but a scant few techniques from traditional martial arts have ever proven effective when pressure tested and that’s just a fact. Muay Thai, Boxing, Wrestling, Judo… These disciplines WORK against a determined motivated assailant, element of surprise or not. If a decent grappler gets a hold of you and wants you on the ground, then you’re gonna have to work hard to prevent it from happening, full stop. You’re not generating any power in kicks or punches when your face is grinding against concrete, hell your not even throwing them for that matter. There’s a huge difference between “I really want to win this tournament” and “I really don’t want to die in this alley”….
