Thank you for providing information and stimulating more conversation about osteoporosis. Those of us who suffer from it are ridiculously under-served and often outright dismissed. I appreciate you!

This is interesting, I’ve been taking this for 20 years, to replace the hormones we had been taking for menopause, hot flashes that were causing heart problems. I never got a good explanation of the side effects of raloxafene. Over time I got an explanation of the breast cancer help . Over the last 40 years all 3 of my sisters had breast cancer and have died. They never took this drug. I’m 77 years old and have never had any problems taking the drug. I get an annual mammogram and have never had any symptoms of breast cancer, I always mention my family history of breast cancer. I have had vaginal cancer, squamous cell stage 3. Treated like cervical cancer. No surgery but I did have radiation, chemotherapy, brachytherapy. Now have follow up scans once a year. So far all good. Feel good. I thought this might be something I should share with you. Thanks for sharing your research.

@@tammywheeler7463 No to both , they were diagnosed in their 40’s in the 1980’s. One died within 2 years, second one died age 69. My third sister was diagnosed at 75 yrs. and did not die of breast cancer, she died of a stroke at 80 years old.

As a breast cancer survivor, and otherwise healthy woman in my sixties, my GP is more than happy to keep up my prescription to Tamoxifen, which I understand has similar properties to Relaxofene, as an "off label" treatment for my early stage osteoporosis, even though my oncologist couldn't care less (his words) if I take it or not. My GP is young, smart as a whip, and totally on top of all recent research, unlike a few GPs I've had in the past. In Australia, we benefit from what is called a "care plan", which is free referral to preventative modalities such as physiotherapy, exercise physiologists, etc. The government worked out it is cheaper for the health system to give lifesaving prevention than to treat end stage disease in hospital. Exercise, sunshine, supplements in moderation, clean eating - that's my strategy for this condition.

Thank you for sharing. The BMD improvement in Tamoxifen is not as strong as Raloxifene BUT what's right for one patient is going depend on multiple variables. Some protection is better than none!

I had stage 2a estrogen sensitive breast cancer 5 years ago at age 55. I underwent a double mastectomy without reconstruction and was put on anastrazole. At that time I was diagnosed with osteopenia. I took control of my life, lost 130 pounds with gastric bypass surgery, began a heavy weightlifting/muscle building program, cleaned up my diet, began taking calcium citrate and d3 three times a day. My BMD slipped into osteoporosis -2.7 at the left hip. I received a Reclast infusion and experienced severe bone pain which lasted almost a full month. The first 4 or 5 days I could hardly move, the pain was the worst I had ever had in my life. After doing more research i have begun using some SARMs and peptides including RAD140, MK677, TB500 and BPC157. My BMD improved to -2.5. It has been a year and a half since the infusion and they contacted me to get another - I refused. I told them about the peptides/Sarms, but they had never heard of them, the credited the Reclast with the improvement, and I told them I would like to try raloxifene to replace the anastrazole and reclast and they agreed. I am 60 now, 18% body fat, 135lbs, 5'3". I lift heavy 4 days per week and work a physically strenuous job that involves a lot of lifting, carrying, bending, squatting and walking. I tan in a bed once a week for the natural D. So far, so good....no sides from adding the raloxifene and dumping the anastrazole. Since you are more familiar with peptides and hormone manipulation, what do you think of my current program and is there anything you would consider adding or removing from my current regime?

I'm a physician (age 69) and when I found out I had osteoporosis by having a vertebral fracture, I initially ordered some of this, as I didn't want to take bisphosphonates, and I didn't want to just sit around waiting to see an endocrinologist (3 month wait). I then stopped it because I wanted to go on HRT instead. The fact that I took it was good, because that means that post-fracture, and post trying an "initial" drug, the endocrinologist is going to get me Tymlos, which I now qualify for. She ruled out hypercalciuria, and we're still awaiting the results of testing for mutations, related to osteogenesis imperfecta as a broad class. I think the reason osteoporosis is an "orphan" disease, is because it's pretty complicated to understand and manage. I appreciate all you are doing to help enlighten sufferers, as you do tend to feel abandoned when you get diagnosed.

I have been on Raloxifene for 7-10 years with zero side effects. No history of cancer ( other than basal cell skin cancer) nor blood clots. I recently had an appointment with an ob/gyn PA. She mentioned it might be time to go on a "drug holiday" and make that decision at my next Dexa scan ( in 2 months). I asked what was the max number of years it was recommended I limit it's use. She gave a standard answer of " 5 years for osteoporosis medications" . Have you come across any studies that looked at length of time patients remained on this medication? I very much appreciate all the information you provide . I am working my way through the masterclass videos and workbook.

I took Bisphosphonates after breast cancer. It was an awful experience. The drug makes your bones ache and it makes them brittle. Bones should be spongy. I am now facing -2.5 osteoporosis and hips and spine and I’m hoping Evista will be an alternative my PC Dr will consider. I lift weights, walk, eat healthy and fast. I’m a healthy weight so the only factor that seems to be off is my hormones due to a hysterectomy in my 30s and being 70 yo. Is this drug something that can help me?

I have GERD which means I cannot take bisphosphonates. I followed the Lilly studies and went to my doctor for a prescription the minute Evista was approved in 1997. It took 17 years to restore my bones to normal density without any side effects. Switching to Prolia is out of the question for me because I'm quite vain about my teeth and am mortified at the thought of jaw osteonecrosis. I also had a friend whose leg broke under her while she was doing nothing more than unlocking her car door; she was old, and never fully recovered. She took Prolia. The only thing about raloxifene that is annoying is that I'm off it after a good DEXA -- then I'm back on it again after the next DEXA 2 years later. I'm not happy with the yo-yo effect on my bone density, so I'll ask my internist if I can just stay on it forever. I enjoy a genetic anomaly that protects me from clots and stroke.
