What you’re listing is outer parts of the city, not suburbs. I’m 59 and minus 3 years living in other states, have lived in Pittsburgh, and now in a suburb of this city, in my great grandparents 100 yr old home. Suburbs are Hopewell, Aliquippa, Monroeville, Cranberry Township, Wexford, Coraopolis, Neville Island, Moon Township, Greensburg, Mt. Lebanon and Bethel Park, to name a few. I think of Carnegie as city. Ditto with Crafton or the West End.

@@YellowFlowerofTexas everything except Hopewell & Aliquippa. Greensburg is 30 miles East and Monroeville is 18 miles East too. Kind of boring out there. Mt Lebanon & Bethel are too crowded for me. I live in west (Robinson, Hankey Farms, Imperial, Clinton, Hookstown which is 20-25 mi with a 8,000 acre Raccoon Creek nearby and Oakdale) and enjoy north (Cranberry, Wexford that are higher cost areas). Moon and Coraopolis are older descent places and more affordable. I’d avoid Oakdale as they get flooded a lot and it doesn’t take much water to make that happen. All state parks cost nothing to use. I noticed that you rarely mentioned about Penn Hills. I wonder why... Is it because of the high crime area and crappy schools, or everyone from East Liberty, Homewood, Wilkinsburg, etc, are moving there... (If you are wondering why I mentioned this I grew up in Penn Hills!)

East suburbs are the worst. My favorites are north and west of Pittsburgh. South and East are the worst of the suburbs.

A super "under the radar" suburb that's AWESOME near Pittsburgh, is Bradfordwoods. Bradfordwoods is only about 20 minutes from downtown on the northwest side, and it's sooooooo pretty. Very wooded, very quiet, beautiful big trees, you'll feel like you're out of the chaos of a big city, but you're only 20ish minutes away. A true gem!

Excellent video. There are some walkable areas in the north hills - West View, for example is like a little slice of Pittsburgh's north side implanted into the north hills and surrounded by Ross Township. You can throw Bellevue, Avalon, Emsworth and those immediate surrounding river towns on there too, although some people don't really consider this to be the "north hills". All previously mentioned neighborhoods are early 20th century neighborhoods. For sure though, far less dense and walkable compared to the south hills.

I settled in Whitehall. Great location, quiet neighborhoods that are close in and convenient. Pretty much everything you need is right nearby. While it does not have direct T service, it's pretty quick and easy to get over to Castle Shannon for that, and then it's only about 15 to 20 minutes into downtown. The only thing I'm mad about is that, at least in the area I'm in, there's no sidewalks. It's worth noting that I don't commute, though. I imagine I'd probably be pretty annoyed with 51 and the tunnels if I did.

Baldwin is a racist suburb and I remember what happened to Johnny Gammage in the year 1995 when I was 12. Really makes me very angry 😤

@@PraveenSrJ01 yes Brentwood has a racist reputation & what they did to Johnny Gammage is a racist hate crime Brentwood may have changed..I know of ppl who were arrested in Brentwood following their attempts to get rid of a black family by intimidation. This was mid 70's & FBI were involved. I see our bros & sisters all the time in Bwood now.

My husband and I are seriously considering retiring to Pittsburgh. We need to find a safe low cost ADA compliant apartment, preferably near public transport. Does your company handle rentals at all? If not, what would be the best way for us to find one? Thanks.

Not a good place to retire unless you have family here. Winters are cold and can be hard to navigate in ice and snow. It's a very wet city in general and the prevailing grey skies can be depressing. Look elsewhere. I'm retired and moved back for family reasons a few years ago and I'm getting out.

I grew up in Beltzhoover, which is next to Allentown and Mt. Washington. However that was in the 60's and 70's. I moved out at the age of 21 and now live in Kentucky. I don't like how that area has gone downhill! Sad to see. I have a sister who moved from Carrick to Brentwood in 2000. Nice area there to move to! I love your videos about the city I loved growing up in! But would hate to live there now that I am old, Because of the winters!🤣🤣👍👍. Keep them coming! Much success with your business!

I had to move from Knoxville due to persistent broken windows due to gunshots. I loved it there above McKinley Park, I saw deer everyday & 5 miles from downtown.

@@KateBates22zabu I had relatives who lived right across from the brewery on Jane St.! I worked at a cabinet shop at 2201 Mary st. It was part of the Brewery from 76 to 79. South Side from what I see has gone down hill. Even tho they turned into yuppie ville! I used to take the Castle Shannon streetcar out to the burbs when I was a kid. We would walk to South Hills Junction to get on it! That tunnel was always scary to me! Dark and creepy!

The East End and the Eastern suburbs have the most drawbacks. The Squirrel Hill tunnels are the worst way in and out of Pittsburgh and you MUST drive through it to go through it to get to the airport, and you are farther from the airport. Pittsburgh has no real commuter rail. The East and Northeast could use commuter rail. Property taxes tend to be less in surrounding counties.

South Fayette Township is considered to have a great school district. The amenities aren't quite caught up to the new home construction. I go 28 miles to Weirton, West Virginia to get groceries and gasoline..both are cheaper in Weirton.

Sewickley is beautiful, but pricey. Coraopolis is nice for families. Bellevue is also safe and easy to get around. The traffic is not bad at these places and all have bus transportation.

@@PraveenSrJ01 I think it would be pretty good. You are within a twenty minute ride to the city/culture. There also is a large shopping center minutes away at Robinson town center. Sewickley has the Sweetwater Arts center, Coropolis a great nature rail/trails. Sewickley is more pricey and boutiquey. Cory and Bellevue are more affordable, also walking cities with an older, but quaint housing stock.

Take this as constructive criticism,... You had a map on the screen most of your presentation. You had a panel on the left side that was useless. It was taking up valuable real estate. Use your whole screen not taking part of it with a useless panel. Secondly, forget about your cursor to mark on the map. It's way too small and too difficult to follow. Use an on-screen marker with broad lines in order to highlight or circle certain areas you wish to speak about. Your approach of highlighting each region was good. But many of the things that you were pointing out on the map we're hard to follow because your cursor was too small. Just some observations to help you next time around. Thank you

I was raised there and was in the school system... I was also on the volleyball team. So, I would know which places were the suburbs... We didn't play the suburbs schools in the season.

Live about 20 miles south of Pittsburgh, it’s an old city but the city does offer entertainment if you want to fight traffic and pay for parking. Enjoy the scenic drive in with garbage along the road ways.

West View, Belleview, Avalon, for example, are all in the North Hills and all "walkable", like with any neighborhood, depending upon which street you reside. Additionally, those same areas, as well as parts of Ross Twp and the neighborhoods around those neighborhoods, are older. Much like the South Hills, the closer to the city, the older the neighborhood. The further north or south, the more recently built out/expanded. You also missed the entire 28N corridor, (Millvale, Etna, Sharpsburg, Aspinwall).

The North Hills is an example of suburban sprawl at its worst -- giving developers free rein to destroy the watersheds building strip malls galore and large houses on unproportionally small properties.

Pittsburgh is a dying city. Why hasn’t this place seen an explosion of new people moving in, with the cost of housing lower than most places. It’s because the job opportunities in this region stinks. You could find better job opportunities in Baltimore, even with all that crime it has.
