Beautiful! Beautiful! Beautiful! I don't usually complain on line but there's something seriously wrong with RU-vid when Brian Ekard & Company's music doesn't come up when searching for covers of Gordon Lightfoot. The musicianship and sound quality of these videos is superb. I'm just happy that after all these years this "message in a bottle" finally came to shore on my beach tonight. All my best to all of you wherever you may be.
Lightfoot's music is timeless. It's great to see it performed so flawlessly and with respect. I'm sure Gord would be proud to see this! Thanks for the fine video! John
You've heard the term " If you closed your eyes and just listened" you'd think it was the real Gordon Lightfoot, well here it is, just a superb performance guys, Excellent, thank you.
Gordon Lightfoot and his music got me through some rocky times back in the 70’s. I remember listening to him in some sad times. Thank you for sharing your gift. Where do you perform in person?
I've had this song in my head for years, only there are no words. I hear it in a rich, dramatic full symphony orchestra. This, and the song 'All Of Me'. I'm not exactly versed in music, not even a little, so it's a strange phenomenon, I hear every note, but I can't find the song I hear.
Brian and band: I am completely thrilled of your superb quality. Wonderful and balanced sound, warm voice, tempo ...everything is excellent...ah and I envy your Martin too. Hope to keep on watching jobs like this. Pedro
This is wonderful. You would have to be well snared into the dedicated category of Gordon Lightfoot classics in order to put something like this together. The voice is the closest to Lightfoot's that I've ever heard and the musicianship in this production is second to none. You deserve more than you give.
The legend of lightfoot lives..sounds right..feels like the backdrop for a million great movies..got gords vibes for sure..much loved by this newfie boy
Really sorry Guys to learn of the passing of Gordon Lightfoot today. He was a big name here in the UK back in the 70's with his hits always seemed to be in the charts and an outstanding musician I will always remember when I was a kid growing up then. I really hope he saw this cover version and taken it with him to reflect how his music inspired many hence this version .. Brian Ekard and company. R.I.P Gordon Lightfoot.
I feel everyone would agree that if you played a recording of this and said it was Gordon Lightfoot that almost anyone would think it is. Awesome cover.
Wow Brian, these are not easy songs to cover as I'm sure you know lol. I work in Gordon's home town, Orillia, Ontario so always this special attachment and feeling here for his music. You have done him proud!!!
I was at a Gordon Lightfoot concert just a couple months ago. He's still got it in spades and this version is just an awesome tribute to the man himself. (BTW you guys look like hippies who forgot to "grow up". Good on ya !!!)
Oh my goodness Brian.I'm blown away..this is so so so lovely! What a beautiful rendition of this classic Lightfoot tune. The three of you are wonderful together! I'm loving the total 'hoser' plaid shirt to compliment the great Canadian that Lightfoot is..although I can't recall ever seeing him wear one! It would be so great if you could make it to Massey in May-I know James & Ron would be over the moon if you did. This is one song that Gord always nails in concert. Always makes me tear up!
Hey Big Daddy Bri, This is certainly the best so far. Next time I am out there I’ll have to copy the original AVI file so I can watch on my big screen TV. Thanks old friend, David
Brian, This has always been my favorite of Gordon Lightfoot. Your cover of this is beyond words-I would give it an A+! Also the musicians assisting you are fantastic, I hope you can do more work with them, you guys are great togeather! Brian-Indiana
Lightfoot has this special aura and sound Its the whole package of the man But you, You come very close Very close His words touch the human And so can you Just amazing What a performer! 👏👏👏👏👏
Just when I think you can't do any better ,you prove me wrong ! AWESOME, Just AWESOME! So much emotion and so much feeling...Thanks for sharing the music with us. Roe
Well, this man and his band are nothing shy of the perfect tribute to a legendary singer. Effortlessly sung and beautifully performed. For those unfamiliar with GL songs, a strong pair if pipes - a long breath/vocal release - is a must.
Wow, I am blown away. I have been a Lightfoot fan for over 40 years and you guys do this song real justice.Your voice is amazing Brian. I hope Gordon has seen this.
I'm 9 yrs late but totally worth it and I subbed. Best cover Ive found, the voice is truly made to sing Lightfoot songs. Happy to see youre still making videos...
Holy Lightfoot Batman!,...Brian, that was absolutely spot on Gord's Gold,...daaaaaauuuuum! By far the finest rendition on YT and certainly the best I've heard to date. I'm sure someone has shown this to Gordon,...and he had to be blown away! You sound so ridiculously close to the man it's not funny,...BRAVO! I've been doing this tune in my solo gigs for years, but only additive is a harmony box,...that bass and lead riffs really make it complete,.....and your vocal?,...forget about it! :-0 So glad I stumbled upon you tonight. I noticed you are quite the Gord's disciple,...keep em' comin' man,...THE BEST I'VE EVER HEARD,...PERIOD!
WOW. Incredible. I sat with my eyes closed and truly thought this was Gordon Lightfoot. Awesome job. Fantastic. You should go out on tour as a Gordon Lightfoot Tribute show. Gordon's fantastic but his voice has gotten a little rough around the edges over the years and due to his age. You sound like Gordon as a younger man.
This is a deceptively difficult song to cover; the internet is littered with examples. I expected to be disappointed but you guys do a great, great job. This is far and away the best cover I've heard. Exceedingly well done !!!
WOW, this is incredibly close to Gordon's version of the early 70's. GREAT JOB fella's. Listen to any of Gordon's live performances of If You Could Read My Mind and I doubt you'd be able to tell the difference between Brian here and Gordon Lightfoot.
Hey, Brian! Another solid beautiful recording - such fine guitar work; incredible voice, Brian. ... , everything is excellent! Again: a perect weave & collaboration with Lenny; and cudos to the bass man. Truly WONDERFUL! - Rick in MT
Let's face it, Gord may not be around too much longer, but you, Brian, Lenny and Harry, God willing, have many, many more years ahead of you... and we are sooo thankful for that!
Thanks for listening. We just threw this together one night. Lenny and Hojo play quite a bit in Idyllwild though, should you ever get down there. There both fantastic musicians.
Beautiful, Brian...the way you lay those deep, deep phrases on...layer after layer...and the ensemble is brilliant!!! Brian...this is another one you can really work...let the words go in...let them fall into the well...the melody echoing back into the dark recesses...(the song is a hit...but, it has to be...dark..or it just sounds like you are only touching the outskirts...it has meaning, Brian...give it your soul and listen to it tell you...thank you!) (I'm getting kind of feisty, ain't I?)
Here we are again a year later and RU-vid has presented this vid again in my suggested list. I guess their algorithms have me figured out. I suppose it’s pretty clear what I like to watch.
Im 23 and gordon lightfoot is indistinguishable from early morning forays into the sage smelling high desert deer hunting. No one in my generation knows him and I feel eternally grateful to my father for gifting me with this man. Wonderful cover, thank you all.
Back in '71 I used to listen to this one over and over with the headphones, and I became very familiar with everybody's part -- and you guys have just nailed this thing like it's never been covered before! To play it so well, in every way, makes us GL fans so very thankful for your efforts. When you get a gig, we're going to have to charter a bus and head out west to hear you. Seriously.
Brian you not only sound Gordon but your phrasing is spot on! I am from San Diego! A native all my life now living in Oklahoma. I knew Gordon. I am a gospel singer and he loved gospel music unbeknownst to many!
Brian, I'm very sorry for being critical! Your vocals, though not identical to Lightfoot's embrace his style perfectly. I used to cover Lightfoot songs while attempting to sound just like him. Some of my friends loved it, but I new it was not me and that it was artificial. l have learned from watching and listening to you that you can approach an artist's style without trying to be a carbon copy. Even your vocal range is similar to Gord's high baritone in his heyday. I'm a hardcore Lightfoot fan, and have been since my youth in the 1970s.I look forward to hearing and watching more of your covers. Thanks for the wonderful music.
