This is how it worked for me. Some of my Steam games on the D drive had this issue. Locate the game file - make a shortcut to the file ending with .exe and send it to the desktop (if that's where you want it to be) then rename it to whatever you want. If you can't tell which file ends with .exe, then click "View" on the bar at the top of the scream then check "file name extensions"

Nice video, the easy way icon's not be blank is just by changing icon( you can do it by right clicking the icon, go to properties and in the lower bottom click change icon) and that's it.

You don't need to restart windows or logoff in the first example. Just open *task manager* , go to the *Details* tab, select the *explorer.exe* process and then click on *End task* . After that, the Windows explorer will close, so still on Task Manager, click on *File* -> *Run new task* and type: *explorer.exe* . Thanks for the video though, you helped me.

IconCache isn't in my Local folder, but I tried uninstalling Google Drive File Stream and instantaneously my missing icons reappeared, anyway thanks for your solution!

At 0:55 I'd say instead of logging off and on again in Windows 10 instead do this: Start Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) Locate Windows Explorer in Processes under Windows Processes Right click it and select Restart, this will end and start explorer.exe without you manually ending it and then running explorer.exe I'm glad they built that shortcut in :D

I have a similar problem, i unistalled internet explorer and I think that's the problem, my icons were blank, I go to properties which is a URL File now and change the app to open with to Microsoft edge, which didn't fix it. So I reinstalled the and the icon is now the Microsoft edge icon. do u know the fix ? (I did ur fix but I cant put in the location, i can only change the open with app) this also happened to my fortnite but all the other games that i had that weren't steam didn't have this problem)

All 4 methods did not fix my pc's issues with this. However, I went to file explorer - view - options - and clicked restore defaults ... and I got my icons back.

My Microsoft icons are invisible in the start menu but only in the tile section. I have tried everything but nothing seems to work. Its literally only Microsoft and Google chrome. Will deleting it and reinstalling work? Thank you

I don't know if anybody is still active here, but if you are, I would very much like you to thank you for your help. The issues with my pc goes beyond the icons turning white. The apps themselves become incapable of running. No matter how many times I try to open it, it just won't. And after uninstalling said apps, they leave behind some files that are impossible to delete. I've had this happen with my GTA V and MW2. I would not like this to happen to more of my games or worse, apps that are crucial to the pc. If you read this all the way thank you very much.

It didn't work (none of them) but I still liked cuz I appreciate u taking your time to try and help people! edit: I reset my computer back to windows 10 maybe an hour ago and it's not that your methods didn't work for me but it turns out certain programs got deleted in the process of resetting so it was just the shortcuts for the programs LOL.
