Ethan, Just received some Donkey Tail Jr's from you in the mail this week. Took my son in law out and we had an amazing multi-species day! Both of us never had to rebait either. Thanks for being apart of the first father son in law fishing trip!
A buddy of mine calls that rig the double slab stacker. I haven't used it much, but it seems very effective. And you're right, when you become a parent you are constantly tired but eventually you get used to being tired.
I bought my first ultralight after watching lots of your ultralight videos and the next day I slayed 19 bluegills! the amount of fun fishing with the UL is indescribable! This double jig rig will be used next time I’m out fishing, thanks a lot man keep up the great content!
I never get to fish as much as I like too. I used a double 1/64oz jig rig trying for perch and caught a 7lb Pike. I also used the same rig to catch several Rainbows over 3lb.
Thanks for the inspiration! Because of your videos, I purchased an ultralight president/basspro combo. It’s been amazing capturing such a huge variety of species on a tiny jig. My ultralight has brought new life to my fishing experience for sure! Thanks again…also, my wife tried my new ultralight and it’s hard to get it back haha so she is into the ultralight game too.
Just wanted to comment and say that I have become a donkey tail jr, addict. It’s about the only ultralight bait I’ll throw at the lake. This weekend I caught not only sunfish, but also perch, lmb, striper, crappie, and a few surprise channel cats! Will be ordering more within the next few weeks!
Florida bass fisherman here. Gotta admit, ultralight fishing is so much more fun than bass fishing. Its a good break from the usual technical work involved with bass fishing.
Thanks for still pumping out content!!! I like the way you tied that. I have used the sabiki knot before and it just takes a while. It's a pain. This is so much better. You da man!
Also, I had an impulse buy today. Walmart had only one Lew’s Speed Stick HS Ultra Light 5.6ft for $25 and I had to buy it. I went out to test it and caught a 16 inch bass and numerous gills. It’s surprisingly really nice. I paired it with a PFlueger Trion size 20.
I've never tried the double jig rig. I have done the donkey rig with flukes for bass and it absolutely owns! Especially in fall! Edit: parenting gets easier the older they get! You will have a life time fishing buddy in no time.
It is a very effective rig, for sure! I also always do the surgeon's loop for my top jig, but I also do the same knot for the bottom jig. I believe that loop gives the jig a lot more action and darting if it's not rigidly tied.
I'm going to have to try this rig. Which of the ultra light rods is your favorite. You need to do a video comparing them all. Then you need to test different ultra light reels.
Yeah I have been planning to do an ultralight rod update for a while. I might save it for a rainy day and film it inside though :) But my current favorites are the Dobyns Sierra, 13 Fishing Defy Silver, and the Temple Fork Trout & Panfish!
Great rig. I've used similar with live bait (leeches and minnows) when fishing for bullhead and perch. Used to get doubles all the time when the fishing was prime (March for bullhead and April on the St. Lawrence for perch). Definitely a cool setup with jigs and soft baits. Especially in testing out the effectiveness of colors for a given situation. Great day of catching Ethan and glad the family is doing well. Parent life can be exhausting and time consuming for sure but all worth it.
That sounds like a blast Fitzy! Yeah life is busy these days but I am loving being a dad 🤠🧡 Hope you’ve been catching lots of fish! Got your horse flies headed your way 👊🏽
@@FishAnything can't wait to try them out. I haven't been out fishing much lately (been doing lots of family stuff) but going to try and get my youngest out one more time for panfish and I want to try the Horse Flies.
Dude, I love it! I'm gonna be trying this out the next time I'm out with the Mule Jigs! Your comments absolutely cracked me up. I'm totally down for you doing a mini series of testing out colors :)
Dude, Ethan, thanks for the how to at the end of the video. I was having the hardest time following the on the water version but then again, I have ADD when it comes to knot tying. Im interested to try this on heavier line with the Spark Shad for Smallies. Gonna try to give it a go. Also, you aint kiddin about no time and always tired haha. These little months old nuggets are a handful!
Right on Matty! Let me know how it works for them smallies -that sounds like a blast :) And yeah man lil' Charles likes to keep us up some nights haha but he is actually really good most nights so I am thankful for that.
I've a Old Town Pack canoe 11ft... get yourself a 4 ft piece of paracord and make a lanyard for the paddle... then no worries at all.. about it drifting away.. I put my paddle IN the water floating next to the boat... NOT in the way at all ...
Have you had the chance to try a diawa kage UL rod? I found a 6'1 ul at a local sports shop and it is now one of my favorites. There isn't too much information online about this rod but it is simply awesome
Dude I wish you would find a second 6'1 model. That rod is on my list but I can't find it anywhere! I want the 1pc 6'1 rod. I will test it one of these days.
Like the knot, might try for the looming steelhead season. I’m sure free time is tight there in the Outdoorsman household but any plans for hitting up staging salmon? They are probably showing up at piers soon if not already up in MI
How do you like your tfo rod? I’ve seen your video on it. I almost picked one up last weekend but I went with another rod from a company called Tica. It’s their Spinfocus series rod and it is really nice for the price!
Color definitely makes a difference but I think pairing specific colors together isn't that big of a deal. I like to match them up if I want to be natural but if the water is cloudy, I like to add some "pop" with a brighter head.
