The moment he said monster hunter was a good monster movie already lost his credibility. Like fr he mentioned Jurassic Park as a monster and called dinosaurs kaiju…

I think people aren't using timestamps to avoid people only seeing what they want and not watching the entire video. I really appreciate it when they use these, Thx for the post.
I wouldn’t say monster hunter should be a good film because it’s based off of the video game any video game movie sucks except the sonic movies those are good
yeah...especially with the 3 new Gamera movies. i sure do wish that Gamera would make a come back! i would love to see a new movie with the big jet powered fire breathing turtle!
The 90's trilogy can't really be called the new movies anymore thanks to 2006's Gamera: The Brave, but I do agree with you. Guardian of the Universe, Advent of Legion, and Revenge of Iris are some of the best Kaiju films in history. Putting Monster Hunter above The Host, Colossal, and even Cloverfield is bad enough, but to leave Gamera off the list entirely is just...dumb.
@@TheManBehindtheScreen well....they're the newest Gamera movies haha! Some say they're better than anything in the Godzilla Heisei series but I just think all the monster movies were awesome. Gamera seemed to have a bigger budget to toss around though haha!
@@lilredwagon5311 I haven't seen it in full but what I did see was alright. It definitely throws back to more of the Showa era "friend of all children" feel but with less of the campiness.
@@technicalproductions3484 As a franchise, “yes” as a series, “no!” To date, the “KONG” franchise has only made 12 movies series, vs GODZILLA’S 36. movie series!
@@technicalproductions3484 I did not count the Kong franchise because of the two crossovers that the two movie monsters have had. Also in "Legendary's" monsterverse, they live in the same universe.
I don't think Kong: Skull Island should count since that movie takes place within one of the Godzilla universes. Also Jurassic Park isn't a Kaiju movie it's a sci fi dinosaur movie.
I saw the trailers for Colossal and I have to say it is one of the weirdest Giant Monster movies I ever saw where there seems to be some kind of link between the monster and a young woman where whatever the woman does or the way she moves her body the monster mimics what she does like where it looks like she's dancing and the monster is making the same moves it's like there's a psychic link between them like how in the Heisei films of Gamera where Gamera shares some kind of link with humans through this special pendant.
Colossal is a kaiju movie for intellectuals and people who don't like kaiju movies, it has kaiju but its about monsters and what people go through to fight them. I love the monster genre, I don't like real monsters. Colossal is a winner because it tells a story about real monsters in a novel and inspiring way. Cloverfield Lane used the monster metaphor as a plot device also, and did it well, just for a different purpose and in an entirely different manner.
This is a strange list. Why was monster hunter on here and not Gamera? Mainly the Shusuke trilogy. The design I'll give the movie props for but monster hunter was not all that. Cloverfield to me was overrated. When I saw it with an ex of mine now; at least half the audience left halfway through the film. All with migrains, and some throwing up due to the shaky camera. I never get motion sickness but I had a small headache trying to focus on the movie. All cloverfield was is just a run of the mill giant monster attacking the city but with a camera that shook too much through the film. One less known movie I thought was good is space ameoba. Another great movie; X from outer space. Deltoro did say he made Pacific Rim with inspiration from animes like Gundam, and Evangillion, and monster flicks like Godzilla. If another live action Gundam does get made or live action Voltron; Deltoro should helm it. Whether you like Pacific Rim or not; Deltoro proved he can do some very creative design work on mechs and Kaiju together in one film. Those who are not aware Gundam has a live action movie called G-Savior and was terrible.
I did not know about G Savior and now I need to watch it...doesn't matter if it's terrible, hell I suffered through the old Gamera Super Monster, it is a right of passage lol.
@@daocvet Gamera Guardian of the Universe also has the bonus of having Stephen Segal's daughter as one of the cast, and she's BY FAR the better actor of the family.
Dude you have to remember with the Jurassic Park franchise the dinosaurs are brought back to life in the movies through genetic engineering and cloning because of the dream of a rich old man.
This is a strange list. Like I guess the Blob could count because it's a giant monster but there are many better movies before this that are closer to Godzilla. I'd also leave Skull Island off because its still big G's universe. I'd definitely throw Gamera, especially the 90s trilogy, Rampage, Gorgo, and Pulgasari, if only for the interesting history on the last one.
Jurassic Park are my favorite on this list & Pacific Rim is i must for a Godzilla fan like myself. Here are My suggestions for You all who Love Godzilla & what Monster Movies You SHOULD watch: Rodan (1956), The Mysterians (1957) Mothra (1961), Matango (1963), Atragon (1963), Frankenstein Conquers The World (1965), Gamera (1965), War Of The Gargantuas (1966) & Daimajin (1966). 💙
I disagreed with the list. Colossal was a goofy giant monster film. The Blob is not a giant monster flick. It's a sci-fi horror film. That Japanese Gamera-wannabe film looked stupid. Kong: Skull Island counted as a Kaiju film, so it shouldn't be on the list. I recommend The Black Scorpion, Deep Rising, and Empire of the Ants.
Pfft.... this is a list fail. No mention of Gamera anywhere? The Daiei Gamera Trilogy is superior to many of the Godzilla films in my opinion. The FX, stories, and monster action are far more immersive overall. I say this as a huge Godzilla fan from my childhood in the 70s and 80s to being an adult now. I was a massive Godzilla fan, but when I encountered the Daiei Gamera films I was completely reacquainted with what monster movies could be. Also, I went back later and watched the older Gamera films from the 60s and 70s. Gamera vs Gyaos is amazing in its aesthetic and comedy. So much fun.
While I agree the Gamera Trilogy in the 90s were great they are on par with Godzilla maybe better in the human stories for sure. I do want to point out they did have a turtle kaiju on the list and i think we can all agree its better than Gamera..................haha
Honestly if you want to include kong, since this is a recommendation video I would use the original Kong from the 30's since it and the beast from 20,000 fathoms were the inspiration for godzilla. There is also the peter jackson versionof king kong which I would say is definitley worth a watch cause it feels like a respectful remake of the original. If you would like some recommendations: 1.The Claw 2. Heisei Gamera Trilogy 3. Orochi the eight headed dragon (strap in for this one its kinda a wild ride) 4. Clash of the Titans (older version is better, new versions watchable though) 5. Eight legged freaks(it counts and is mindless fun) 6. Jason and the Argonauts 7. Them! 8. The Meg(think a giant shark movie counts)
About the 2nd film, one of the actors was in shin Godzilla so pretty cool lol. I'm surprised you didnt mention any of the gamera Trilogy films since those are considered some of the best in the kaiju community.
I was expecting films I haven't seen before, or at least fit into the giant monster category. I'll give you that while the Host isn't a "Giant" monster movie, it's similarities to Gojira 1954 make it at least relevant to Godzilla. Colossal and Love & Peace are extremely far off from Godzilla. I get that they're giant monsters, but if this video's reasoning for why I should watch them is because I love Godzilla, then it's a pretty poor reasoning. The Blob, while yes has a giant monster at the end, is just a straight horror film. Once again, the video says I should watch it because I love Godzilla. That's like saying if I enjoyed watching Mr. Roger's Neighborhood than I should watch Nightmare on Elm street because they both feature older men wearing sweaters. Monster Hunter, while the game series does feature some kaiju sized monsters, the film does not feature any itself. Jurassic Park also doesn't feature giant monsters. The Lost World Jurassic Park has more relevance to this list because of the T-rex rampage in San Diego. Like a list about movie recommendations for people who love Godzilla should be more relevant to Godzilla. Like Gamera(How did Love & Peace get on this list & not Gamera), Varan the Unbelievable, Ultraman, Pacific Rim(Which did actually make the list), Reptilian(Even if it's really bad), & any Kong film that isn't Kong Skull Island(Because Skull Island is a Monsterverse film, A.K.A the Legendary Films Godzilla series).
Yea, I don't think he understands the difference between a kaiju movie and just your run of the mill monster movie, like you said the Blob is horror, so is Q, but it ain't kaiju lol.
You missed one crucial film (more accurately, films) The Heisei Gamera Trilogy (Gamera: Guardian Of The Universe (1995), Gamera 2: The Advent/ Attack Of Legion (1996), and Gamera 3: The Revenge Of Iris (1999))
the host 2006 is a good one too I think cloverfield is my favorite used to be mist for monster movies and before them "the host" it was movie that got me into monster movies finally
7:33 it's not a coincidence that Pacific Rim's production company "Legendary Pictures" also produced the MonsterVerse franchise surrounding godzilla. *Crossover* foreshadowing ?
@@thedragonthatlovesskittles7132 There also been discussion as per Wikipedia "Future" tab: "Steven S. DeKnight (director and co-writer of Pacific Rim: Uprising) noted that there have been discussions about a cross-over between the MonsterVerse and Pacific Rim franchise, however, he iterated it was all theoretical possibilities. Guillermo del Toro (director and co-writer of Pacific Rim) had also expressed interest of Pacific Rim crossing over with the Monsterverse."
Just like Jaws is not about a shark, but about the people hunting him, The Host is not about the monster per se, but the consequences of its appearance (it's telling that there's no suspense on what it looks like, one of the pleasures of monster movies) on the family central to the plot…
A lot of these movies look like B plots that once had a cool idea, but turned into either a horror movie, or someone's indie "this is art" type movies that we've seen a thousand times before.
That's like saying you're an old-school muscle-car fan, but the automotive industry and private sector have worked extensively together and that brand-new Lamborghini is "perhaps better"... No, not to us Godzilla cultists. We choose a genuine badly dubbed Toho movie over any Hollywood crapola every time. Or at least I do.
Actually some better choices you could have picked as other Kaiju movies instead of Monster Hunter or some on this list: Gamera (90’s) movies are a decent example and all other King Kong movies. Kong: Skull Island is part of the Godzilla Movie Monsterverse Quadriligy. There is a reason King Kong and Godzilla have an actual story connection in Godzilla vs Kong.
The problem with all of these movies is they don't understand what makes Godzilla movies so beloved: the monster. Godzilla is original, unique, and cool as fuck. All these other monsters are forgettable. They try to make up for it by highlighting "human drama", but that's not what we go to see monster movies for. We know Godzilla is the star.
Cloverfield.... is not a monster movie. it's a "OMG FIND GIRLFRIEND WHILE CITY IS SOMEWHAT TRASHED" Movie. The "Monster" can easily be replaced with just about anything. You could add Tommy Lee Jones "Volcano" in it's place, and it would be the same (expect Volcano is a much better movie)
I seen them all expect love & peace - I always wished we get another Del Torro Pacific Rim too - also if anybody wants to see some cool Kaiju movies check out Howl from Beyond the Fog - It's a wonderful stop motion puppet Kaiju movie - its short, but its done so well and is awesome. War of the god monsters MONSTERS 1 & 2 Raiga (all of them) anything with Ultraman also check out Pacific Rim The Black Ones I am looking forward too WHAT TO DO WITH THE DEAD KAIJU? SHIN ULTRAMAN. BRUSH OF THE GOD. GRIDMAN X DYNAZENON.
I got to say the movie colossal was a giant bait-and-switch they knew wouldn't sell unless they put some stupid hook on it I felt lied to by the preview
There's a reason why Godzilla reigns Supreme!! Monsters Hunters a movie I can skip on not a must watch movie,Cloverfield a sicking love story, Colossus stinked!!! A emotionally mixed up girl who's emotions controlling the Monster boring!!! And that Korean movie was a little okay but Godzilla reigns Supreme.
I can think of a few movies I would have like to see on this list, but it''s his list. If you don't like it make your own top 10 video and I'd watch it.
Jurassic Park shouldn't count. Gamera, the original King Kong, and The Valley of Gwangi are far more in line with the monster movie tradition which Godzilla draws from.
i include the Heisei trilogy of Gamera films "Guardian of the Galaxy", "Attack of legion" and "Revenge of Iris". Best non Godzilla kaiju films made in Japan and Toho even let the Director do a Godzilla Film "GMK' .
@@davidxoomer3806 - I've already seen both *Yongary* and *Pulgasari.* Go re-read my original post/comment. To paraphrase what I said earlier, there should be a *"REMAKE"* by one of South Korea's current prolific directors.
I love how goofy the turtle from "Love and Peace" is! Even magnified into a kaiju he's not threatening at all! You can just hear him going, "Uh -- hi, guys -- how come you all got so small?!?"
Why weren't any (or all) of Shusuke Kaneko's GAMERA film trilogy in this list? There are some terrific films listed here, but each of Kaneko's GAMERA films are better.
I cannot tell you how much I DESPISE found footage films. I have yet to see a single one that wouldn't have been a FAR better movie if they had been filmed in a regular manner.
Found footage films are an abomination! All that jerky filming and irritating camera settings icons on the screen and the constantsoundof the camera being moved around. You never see anything clearly. My biggest hate with these films is that by their very name, found footage, you know that everyone in the film is going to die and the footage will be found later. So what the hell is the point of getting emotionally involved with any of the characters because you know right from the beginning that they are all going to die. You're only waiting to see when and how. There's no-one to root for. Every single found footage film I have seen was boring beyond belief and that includes the original Blair Witch Project which started the avalanche of these atrocious messes and Cloverfield.
