25,000 mile oil changes aren't a joke Scotty,this is why I use Amsoil OW-30 weight in my Frontier,this truck calls for 5W-30 weight oil,the OW-30 weight is FULLY compatible with OW-30 and this oil flows better at below zero temperatures. Amsoil has a guarantee that if it is found that the oil failed,Amsoil oil will pay for all damages to your car, no one has ever filed a claim against Amsoil,because the oil failed and damaged their car in any way shape or form,engines transmissions,power steering,brake systems since April 1972.(Amsoil is established)

1) Clean your battery terminals and apply some battery protection spray 2) Change your oil regularly 3 to 5 thousand miles using manufacture spec oil 3) Check and change your coolant as necessary. Check what works for your car 4) Change the transmission fluid every 60-80,000 miles 5) Flush your brake fluid every 4/5 years. A well made car (Like his Celica 😂) he’s never changed the fluid in however 6) Power steering fluid-check it out and make sure it’s not dirty. Change it out every 8-9 years. 7) Check your tires air pressure first thing in the am (cold pressure). Check for Dryrot. That’s it!

there’s two things in transmission fluid you either flush it or change flushing it is taking out the old fluid and pumping new fluid when you change it all you do is remove some like 1/3 to get some new fluid in the system flushing and changing and maintenance is all depending on what your owner’s manual says of the car now if the fluid is burnt or very dirty and black and has metallic specs it’s because those metal specs are pieces of clutch material if you were to say flush that dirty fluid with all those metal specs gone the transmission might slip because since the fluid wasn’t being changed and it got to that point the only thing keeping it running were those metal specs removing them will cause slipping best thing to do is maintain when you are supposed don’t let your fluid get black or burnt flushing it when it’s time to flush or change when you have to change

Hi Scotty, you forgot about one item, granted, it's not for all cars, but a lot of them: The timing belt. A lot of cars from between 1990 and 2010 have belt driven timing, and most of those are interference engines. It is critical to replace the timing belt every 5 years or 60000 miles at most, or you can kiss your engine goodbye once it snaps.
@tomster7574
@tomster7574 5 лет назад
Make sure never to buy a timing belt driven car. Mine are all chain.
@user-hw8xs1bs6s
@user-hw8xs1bs6s 5 лет назад
TRUTH! to check - if your car sputters when starting, turn it off and restart. if restart produces no sputtering, now this means your timing belt is stretched, varying the timing which is off at times which actually means, the timing is off and you are risking timing belt breaking, resulting in piston slamming into the piston= R.I.P. any motor w timing belt. told this to a gal, when I noticed the sputtering. she'd restarted ran smooth. told her it was serious and she needs to get a new timing belt asap or motor will go bye bye. she shrugged it off. this was summer. by Nov of same year, belt broke compressed air in cylinder without belt to open valve to release pressure via exhaust , resulting in exhaust going up he intake route which blew out her plastic intake manifold, in addition to the piston walking the valve bending valve, which basically means good by to a used old motor due to being cheaper to replace e w a used motor, vs repairing the broken motor. this all would've been avoided, by getting a new timing belt installed. car would've driven much much longer. it was a intrepid 2.2Lif memory is correct.

Timing belts are neither good nor bad. They are a necessary maintenance item like an oil change. However, your skills and pocketbook come into play. I changed my belt and all related items in the spring - $350 and one day of my time (experienced mechanic). The same job in a shop was quoted at between $800 and $1,000. Just decide before you buy if you are OK with the work or $ .

you're not nice, dude... not nice at all. You KNOW somebody read that and believed it, even if it's only ONE GUY.... especially since you forgot to mention how you have to change out every other lug nut for the winter wheel lugs. One time half my lugs drove themselves crazy and right off the car. But you didn't think to mention that, did you? NO... you only think of yourself.

I bought a used 2005 corolla in 2006. Being a young man I drove the hell out of that car. Changed oil, transmission flush at 100k. Other then brakes and tires I had to replace the starter. And then an evap issue that no one and I mean no one could figure it out. So I got a 16 Camry.....

+rotate those tires the same time you change the oil. You don't have to, but if want maximum life from your tires, the physics of the car weight, balance, steering will wear your tires abnormally if left in the same position too long. I got 70k plus on a set of tires on my 240sx that was lowered and modified so that proper alignment specs could not be achieved. That life would not be possible without frequent tire rotations.

Mobil-1 My brother had a 1982 Volvo 242 . . .once it got 7k miles on it, he switched to Mobil-1 synthetic. What he did might blow you away; he changed the oil every 50,000 miles. All he did in the interim was to change the oil filter every 3,000 miles. Long story longer . . .the car had 320,000 on it (never did an engine rebuild nor even had the head off to refurbish the top end) when he sold it and the local new owner continued to drive it around town for another 4 or 5 years. The simple truth is, full synthetic oil just doesn't break down as quickly as conventional oil.

If you go synthetic you can't switch back to regular old motor oil because the synthetic oil puts a film on the parts in the engine and this film prevents normal oil from sticking and providing lubrication like it is intended to do. That is what my brother told me once and he is a mechanic in both automotive and diesel, but his job is mainly diesel engines in semi trucks.

Scotty I recently bought a 1999 Mercury Mystique. It's an excellent shape as far as I'm concerned and it came with a book of service records. The previous owner was an 82 year old woman who had oil changes on schedule and didn't care if the mechanic said it needed more than what she took it in for. She was okay with them taking care of things they felt needed to be fixed. I had two other options at the time I bought this car and it had 50,000 less miles than one of them and almost a hundred fifty thousand miles less than the other. It is right now sitting just over 143,000 miles. I plan on keeping up with the maintenance so that I can keep it for a while.

Last year Kilmer stated he only drove his Celica 500 miles. Said he has owned it for twenty-three years. If 500miles per year is his average, then it would only have 11,500 miles on the odometer. But if the first 22 years saw average mileage of 12,000 miles per year, the the odometer would read 264,000 miles . Not too shabby. But every time you see him do burnouts , it's always with an Amercan car. Never seen him do burnouts with his TOYOTA. Reving up engines seems to be confined to vehicle makes he has a distain for. All in all , this vid does contain good advice. Rev Up The Savings. Best to you and yours Scotty.. long life and good health.

I had a mate worked at the Castrol research centre at Whitchurch near Reading in the UK. They ran engines flat out for weeks on end, big bmw and merc engines. He said they would simulate extreme conditions going way beyond what a car owner could do to his car and after a simulated 60,000 miles Magnatec was still in grade. Which is amazing chemistry . This was 15 years ago. I took that on board, completely ignored it and change the oil on my old Volvo T5 every 5k with semi synth. It goes in looking like honey and comes out looking like honey. 25 years old doesn’t use a drop, never failed to start never broke down.

I've heard a lot of people say that the Corolla's from that era are prone to burning oil but luckily I haven't had this issue. The only thing I've had to do is change the struts and sway bar links. This is first vehicle I've ever owned that wasn't from one of the Big 2 manufacturers. And it is also one of the best running I've ever had. I'll never go back to Ford or GM again unless it's a pre 2000s model.

@lynnmartz8739
@lynnmartz8739 5 лет назад
You'll want to search it out, but if you've let the ATF get too dirty, then things can backfire. My understanding is that DO NOT do a power flush, which causes dirt to break loose and clog something up. A drain and fill, run on that for a couple weeks, then repeat until fluid starts coming cleaner. Part of this is due to even if you drain and fill too fast your car has adjusted for thicker fluid and needs to basically reprogram itself as the fluid changes. All this I've learned from Scotty, and you can too. Thank you Scotty. When the mechanic had the car I was looking at up on the lift, and I took each wheel top/bottom then right/left and tried to wiggle them, he was impressed. I told him Scotty taught me.
