When this dude made a video explaining the CAGED system and I actually understood it afterwards, I signed up for his course. Yeah, if you're on a budget, you may second guess buying it. However, if you're learning on your own, it really is a bargain with all of the information and material he provides and it's a lifetime membership. I found it's worth it.

Brian, as a professional educator myself, it doesn’t matter what you teach, it matters what they learn. If they are not learning, you, the instructor, needs to change something so they do get it. Just reinforcing what you have already taught does necessarily ensure student learning. You are thorough and we appreciate it!

Brian, sincerely, very well done. Thank you, this is a great help. I have been trying to figure out something Brian May said in Star Licks video many years ago "I don't think of scales, I tend to play across chords". I wanted to understand how Brian May's solos always sound so locked in or in keeping with the other parts like the Piano. A few weeks ago I dissected the notes in the Bohemian Rhapsody solo with my guitar teacher and they do fit the chord tones of the Piano chord underneath. James Rundle also did a video for me about this and explained that a solo using just the scale would hit the chord tones 3 in 7 times. Brian seems to increase his chord tone hit rate when soloing by using chord tones and moving to follow each chord. The modes explantion and demontration at the end in part 3 is the best and clearest I have seen. Thank you. I am now off to your website. Best regards, Ian

Great vid Brian 👍 I didn't feel confused in my understanding but I believe that it's always good to revise and confirm that, just in case 😁👍👍. I've learnt thinking that you understand something and actually understanding that something are 2 entirely different things. Also the leap from knowing to putting into practice and making music that's actually good to listen to makes all the difference. So thanks for all of the free lessons that you post, even though you deserve to make a living out of it based on all the work you put into it, unfortunately I cannot afford it yet. P.S; you're right about other youtube guitar channels but you explain the theory in a much better, understandable way and you regularly post as well.

Fantastic Brian! Thanks! I kept on thinking «it shows that this guy is an engineer». Well structured, to the point, only the essentials. I believe your early years working as an engineer was not a waste of time, but contributed to you becoming a much better musician and instructor. One important aspect of all this is "getting it under you fingers" or knowing it or sometimes memorizing; paying dues so to speak. I know when I learned the major scale (any key...) the length of the fretboard I found/saw... patterns or shapes and thus I use those patterns to play notes from the major scale to find notes for a solo. Worked for me...

I don't understand how so many people are amazed how clear this made things for them. I'm even more confused now after watching this. Been trying to learn since 2004, no luck. The only thing that ever worked was memorizing songs and their solos, then when I hear something I realize "hey it kinda sounds like that song" and then I know sort of what I can play. Anything else just never worked, best case I play some "scales" or whatever it is up and down and sound horrible, until I get so bored with it that I forget what little I even learned in the first place. Then I end up on a video like this here in hopes it finally happens for me. See you next time.

I do understand scales, arpeggios and modes, but I still keep watching this channel because I just enjoy your unending frustration with all the misunderstanding (which I put down to people not getting the difference between patterns on a fretboard and the logic of intervals). Dunno why, just makes me feel like the universe is still in balance👍🤘🙏 (but one thought on modes. ultimately you also want to stress the intervals that define each mode. for example, in Dorian the flat 3 that defines minor and the major 6 that differentiates it from minor/aeolian)
@zombieguitar
@zombieguitar 2 года назад
Yes I do stress that point all the time too 😉: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1Etwvjlzchs.html

I found that over the years the five pentatonic patterns I was first taught that then turned into the five caged patterns your talking about worked but then when I learned the 7 3nps scales theory became much more clearer but for years could never make them work very well but when I started understanding how the 5 pentatonic patterns in a certain key worked and were in the 7 3nps key things became very clear and totally eliminated the 5 caged scales and now only look at the 7 3nps scales and the 5 pentatonic scales in all keys. The 7 3nps scales and the 5 pentatonic scales seem to create a total different vibe of playing
