I first saw this film back in the 80's, not long after my second and last attempt of giving up on life as a psychologically abused teen. Now, as a grown woman, I must say that no matter how hard things may be, tomorrow's dawn will always allow its miraculous rays of light to brighten the darkness you are soaked into. Thank you Harold and Maude!
The most perfect love story ever made, it's life affirming. Just one brief scene tells us Maude's life story, when Harold sees the tattoo on her left arm. Heart wrenching. We all need a Maude in our lives.
@@georgelogothetis549 It took me YEARS to finally notice the tattoo on Maude's arm. Even though it was only for the movie, I did cry real tears! And unfortunately, too many people in 2020 do NOT understand!
That added an interesting touch to the story as a whole. Basically, it made me view Maude as kind of a female Viktor Frankl, a person I have always admired: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viktor_Frankl
@@wellwisher9817 the Nazis used tattoos as identification numbers for the Jews in the concentration camps. Seeing that, after several viewings where I'd never noticed (on Blu-ray so possibly the quality of the picture was better), gave Maude even more depth. I'm going to watch it again right now.
I start my day listening to this song on days that I don't think I'm going to make it through the day. This song corrects my attitude and makes me smile at times when smiling is difficult.
@@LordGreystoke Maude committed suicide because she wanted to be in charge of her death, as well as her life. Instead of her death being dictated in a concentration camp.
Such a lovely Love Story, why should age be a barrier if two people love each other. This wondrous film really should be better known. WE ALL NEED A MAUDE XXXXX Ruth Gordon XXXX
I watched the movie with my first girlfriend and we liked to sing this song together. Twelve years later I still get some tears in my eyes whenever I hear it. :)
Son, 45 years later (I (born 1956) first saw the movie in 1974 in Germany) and I´m still getting wet eyes listening to Cat´s great song or when watching the movie.
I never saw Harold & Maude until "There's Something About Mary" talked about it being "one of the greatest love stories of our time." Whoever decided to put that in the script was a genius because it truly is... when Harold opens up to Maude about why he is obsessed with death... and the subtle revealing of why Maude lives life to the fullest... I always wished there was a different ending, but I so appreciate how everything in this movie is the opposite of what you'd expect, and yet everything you'd ever expect from true love.
Absolutely. I can be really sad, or angry & annoyed & when I put this on before the last stanza comes 'round, Im dancing & singing out loud & remembering not to take myself or life too seriously 😅
i love this movie over 50 years old i watched it again with a friend who has never seen this movie she is hooked thanks cat stevens and all the actors great movie
This was always my favorite song of Cat Stevens. This movie, Harold and Maude, one of the best comedies ever made, is how I first learned of this artist. I was hooked after seeing the film.
Hello I live in Cam Mass I watched this all through the 70's their used to be a Bar That Had Free Movies & popcorn,& dancing down stairs loved it ..any way they used to play Harold & Maud ,a lot I had seen it at the Movies, but always loved it. I would check the leaflet,& go the nights it was playing,so young in the 70's &Now Still young at ..older' lol ,Still boogie & date ,love life,,nice to meet you Pam
I hope that Cat Stevens has peace in his life now. He had such a great and beautiful singing voice. I saw him in a concert in Mobile, Alabama, in January of 1976. He sounded so great, almost like he was on the radio, or in some recording studio.
Every birthday? The first years he won´t understand you, but sure like the sweet tunes and melody … Can you play guitar or how you perform? Will you name him Harold?
This is one of those movies that I know every pithy line. It's also a soundtrack to my younger days. I've read the posts below and with tears in my eyes I see that so many, many, people course-corrected with this song. I feel each of you and hope that you keep this song close. It's the best! I always think of Harold and Maude enjoying the silliness that is our life. ENJOY! If you wanna SING OUT, SING OUT! Much love to all.
My personal ""happy song". Thanks, Cat! I carry it with me since this movie was released. If lifts my heart and my life worn spirit flies freely for a few minutes until my next injection of this positive masterpiece. Put it on and look up into the clear blue sky of daylight or the mystical starry night sky and tune into this message - doesn't it make you feel better?
My favorite scene from the movie, which I saw in the theater when it was released, is when the priest/pastor is lecturing Harold about how disgusting it is to visualize him committing carnal sins with Maude. Now, it would just simply be a cougar on the prowl, finding her prey.
Lovely song coming from a good heart - makes me smile, makes me want to really be free. And Harold and Maude is the bitter-sweetest film. That Maude is such a character, and such a life- teacher for poor Harold.
Ditto Jane I,have seen this at least 15 times & it never gets old I watched it in the 70's ..love cat Stevens as well but what an uplifting movie..I was young&hot in the 70's now I'm Older & still hot..It's all a state of your own being.
Love this song and video. I posted it on on my dearest friend's page. As I'm shortly going to be completing my sixth decade on this planet, I think I have learned what's important in life. This song kind of says it all. Thank you for this lovely video.
Those that came because of the Jeep commercial.... Cat Stevens has plenty of great tunes mostly from the 70's. I like "Peace Train" and"The Wind". then there's the famous "Morning Has Broken". Excellent stuff!
Martyn H the whole of the "Teaser and the Firecat" album is incredible. "How Can I Tell You" is one of the most moving songs I've ever heard. A great artist.
Merci d'avoir publié cette vidéo de cette chanson géniale ! Moi qui regardais Harold et Maude avec une chère amie, cela me rappelle de tendres souvenirs d'amies précieuses...
Saw the film first time in a small film theater in the University District, (UW in Seattle), in 1976. After Harold's fake hamging, I heard gasps of dispair mixed with giggles. I realized that many in the crowd were first timers brought by those who were initiating us to the experience. This film will always be on my top 10. As Maude said; " That's wonferful dear. Now go love some more. (Had to paraphrase, please excuse any inaccuracies.) Please share this film with others if you are able.
So well composed, Honeysuckle Rose, particularly now in our current Zeitgeist. Your excellent Video and Cat Steven’s message of populace choice and our individual choic, choice, choice. “Each of us literally, by what we choose to attend to, what sort of Uni-Verse we shall inhabit”❤❤❤😮😊❤❤❤
I soo love this song, I remember singing it and other Cat Steven songs in my kitchen long ago when my son was little. So uplifting! I will have to watch this movie playing, looks good!
I want to ask about that. A friend showed me this movie recently, and while it feels like a classic, I'm still trying to work out why it resonates so much more with people back then..the dark humour is great, it subverts norms about love and sex, and gives affirming messages about life. The actor playing Harold is brilliant. You have to adjust to the slower pace a bit...I wonder if it appealed to many people who wanted to break free of restrictive family and societal values, especially considering it was just after the hippie movement happened...?
