I have kept like 2 blackfish but I won't ever keep another I didn't know they were bad breeders and i have a creek in my yard and the is big ones like 50cm and i can catch on when even i want to
I was up near Warburton at a facility, where I was lucky enough to catch brown trout and rainbow trout, in the dam which fed into the Yarra. Some of the best eating fish ever - especially the brown trout. In the outflow / artificial waterfall and it’s subsequent drop pool, I saw a few of the electric blue yabbies like in your video, the “spikey yabbies”, just smaller.. Their were trout in the drop pool, but always were more feisty (more oxygen?) and always broke away from the lure. The drop pool fed into a relatively natural creek with only 1-2 metres depth and lots of boulders and fast flowing clear water, which after 20-50m quickly dropped into a .5 metre depth and less, and calm but decent flow.. Here we caught BLACK BREAM, I believe after research. The person who knew fishing called it “ black fish” and my research points towards It being specifically black Bream. It was one of the best fish I’ve ever tasted. It has the taste if delicate white fish, seaweed/greens but clean not muddy, and a hint of crayfish/prawn sweetness. It was exquisite. WE ONLY EVER ATE TWO IN OVER 12 MONTHS WITH 20 PEOPLE. I’ve payed $50kg for fish that wasn’t even half as good as the brown trout or black bream. The next best fish I’ve ever had was coral trout sold at a fish co-op near the wharf at ILUKA NSW and had been caught a few hours away that morning.. a huge fillet fried in bread crumbs.. with lemon.. was better than any other frozen transported, or rather fish I’ve ever had.
Don't usually GET black fish during the day! A bit of Wooriyallock Ck & Cardinia Ck action! Tupong are actually VERY common, in any coastal draining stream, but UNcommon over any more than about 5cm in length! Seen heaps just in drains around the SE, and waterways draining into Eumemmering or Dandenong Creeks!
