I just had my maiden flight today with my brand new ProTek35 (fully updated analog PNP version). I installed Crossfire. I love this quad so much right from the start. It is going to be my little cinematic workhorse on new jobs. Great video and insight, I really enjoy your style.
By this review you just destroyed my love to the BetaFpv 95x v3 that I wanted to buy in near future :D PROTEK35 looks amazing!! The only bad thing is that it's mass is 300+ grams without battery
@@tomstrojnik Now I'm lost with EU new law. I checked everything for 95x v3 which is below 250 grams with battery + SMO 4K camera and all seems to be fine to fly it in Poland and my location. With IFLIGHT PROTEK35 it's a bit more tricky - after quickly checking with battery and GoPro it's mass is 700-900 grams. I still don't now what pain in the ass would be to fly it in order to not break the law ;)
I never flew with Protek25, but I would say that Protek35 is more versatile, because it can carry a full sized action cam.. and it's more powerful & faster... also flying slow with precision is not a problem for Protek35.
I have the Protek25. I love this little drone! All I fly is Cinewhoops and this one is now my favorite! It handles so well and faster than any of my others. I use a naked GoPro8 on it.
Really good video! I think my next one will be the protek35 and not the green hornet... Can i covert it after i bought analog to digital system or is the frame to small from the analog version?😬Thank you!
Great review ! just got mine in the mail yesterday , setup and ready to fly today .Did you know that with a GoPro Hero Black from the 5 and up can do GPS overlay showing speed, elevation,G-force and a bunch of other screen overlay while you record... thanks again for the great review.
Great review! I was looking at this as my first FPV drone, wanting something that would be easy to use out of the box and also something I could use for slow cinematic shots as well as faster, outdoor follow shots (skiers, mountain bikers etc) and it seems like the protek 35 is the way to go!
Not sure if Protek is a good choice for super fast downhill filming though... a 5inch freestyle quad is a better choice for doing super fast follow shots
@@tomstrojnik thanks for the reply! Downhill mountain biking shouldn't be too fast I don't think and the kind of skiing I'd like to film - powder skiing - hopefully won't be too fast. I had originally hoped to film downhill skateboarding but I've accepted this drone wrong be fast enough for that. It seems like a good place to start anyway, and a friend of mine has a nazgul I can have a go on at a later date. Ideally I'd have a drone for every occasion but for now I have to compromise and this seems like the best of both worlds I guess!
In the beginning the fragile prop-guards were a fail. Did they increase their durability? Why not fly with a naked SMO/GoPro? What's the difference between the 25 and the 35? Thanks for the review.
Yup, this prop-guards are very durable! I don't have a naked action camera atm, but yes it would be a perfect combo! 35 is bigger, more powerful and flies faster. 25 can only carry a naked action cam. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the awesome video! I also watched your nazgul v2 review and still can't decide which one should I get. Recently got a GoPro 9 and thought it'd be too heavy for Protek to carry it but it seems it won't. Maybe fliyng time will help me decide... Which of these two do you think will be able to stay up longer? Thanks again 😊
@@intry205 I do my best to always answer, I appreciate you guys watching my content! Let me know if you ever need any help with FPV or filmmaking. Cheers
Everything looks great and thanks for the detailed review😍 🥰. silly question on my mind😬, if PROTEK35 vs Cloud 149, which would be your suggestion for Cinematic use?🤔
Nice video, I have heard that this drone is very loud so I am wondering if buying it because with this drone I could fly in some parks but I would not like to annoy people around me
Found your youtube from searching Protek 35. Subscribed 😊 I'm a beginner and bought this for my first. Having a hard time flying slowly because I am not used to flying acro. Any tip on flying slow? Can you tweak PIDs/Config to slow it down or is it just being precise with your sticks?
Thanks for the sub, appreciate it! It's all about being precise with your sticks.. especcialy throttle management. Check out this video for some flying exercises: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LSisXRmFckI.html
have you tried running it with 6s batteries? or should that even be a tought. wondering cause my xl5 is 6s and i got a few 4s batteries for glasses but gotta get more when my protek 35 arrives! great stuff man keep it going!
@@pachambacooking4377 only showd up 4s version on iflight site for protek 35. For what i read all the components can handle 6s when you reduce 4s motor speeds to 6s speeds! Gonna try it out when i get mine and a few spare parts if anything blows. As for when it comes to dji, the board handles power output to the air unit so it wont be a problem! But for sure everyones own responseability if something fries 😅
@@Koponenteemu i have tried 6s 1500mah working fine, will be having a test flight this coming few days. hopefully won't fry anything😂🤣. i was currently adjusting some stuff so i won't go wild on 6s. and hopefully yours also. goodluck and have a safe flight.👍
@@pachambacooking4377 nice! Will check it out if you end up uploading it to youtube! I will use my 4s batteries in the start just to be safe, but as soon as i get replacement parts for everything that could blow up i will up it to 6s for longer fly-times and more power!
I don't care about doing flips and crazy tricks but want a very capable drone for smooth cinematic video as well as something for indoor real estate filming. It seems this would be a great option. Which controller and goggles would you suggest to match up?
I think this is such a nice remake on the cinewhoop.. 3.5" for more power. Removable prop guards if u need to save 50g. I almost got one.. but just decided to not buy and just use spare parts to build a drone
@tomstrojnik which radio and receiver combo are you using as it did not look like you using the DJI controller? What would you recommend, as not too keen on the DJI controller.
Any thoughts on the Cinebot 30? Thinking of getting the 03 air unit version of Cinebot 30 but there’s also the new 03 Cinelog so dunno what’s better. I like the look of the Cinebot but can’t try either out first so need to choose the correct one.
Thanks for the info! Do you think the Protek35 is capable of chasing cars? Obviously Nazgul5 would be better but I want an all purpose quad (I can´t afford having 2 drones at the moment) so I can do slow cinematic shots close to people as well as some chase footage.
If the winds are not too strong and if the car is not going too fast... yes of course.. But a 5 or 7 inch racing drone is a better option for chasing cars specifically :) Protek35 is a great option for when you want to fly close to people safely :)
@@tomstrojnik Thanks! If I chase cars it will be in a racing track for a videoshoot so I guess we can fake the speed of the car and let the motion blur make the magic haha I will fly it close to people more frequently so I am glad it can do both :)
3:12 Googles first, then controller ;) 4:53 oh yes this is like seriously surgery getting the Card in and out, I always leave the card in, and just use the USB-C cable to get the footage, it's not perfect, but you won't break your fingers ;)
Nice video! I see that you put the Tango 2 antenna vertically, though it is horizontal on the receiver side. Don’t you have “RX signal lost “ issues due to cross-polarization? I just started FPV and that is my main issue, also with a Tango 2.
Hay Tom love your vids, I wanna fly a quad to film a kitesurfer... which means heavy winds... minimum of 30 knots of wind. Would you recommend this drone for stuf like that? If not what kind of quad would you use?
NIce Video! How far can you flight with the Protek 35? I have already gained some experience with the Protek 35 (including crashes) and would like to continue flying. The connection gets bad after 30 meters..is there a solution to fix this and the possibility to fly further distance? If so how? With Betaflight I have little experience Greetings from Switzerland
Tom, If you already have a cinewhoop but want something for cinematic filming with more power for example to chase cars Protek 35 or Nazgul 5. Will the Protek 35 go fast enough?
This was a really informative review! I'm hoping to get a drone that can be used for inside and outside. Inside would be for videos of daily activities with people and real estate. Outside would be for something such as following someone skateboarding or riding a bicycle. As you said this drone can be used for real estate and be flown close to people and it seems like it's also good for outside, based on this video. However, I'm actually stuck on deciding whether to get the protect35 or bumblebee. Do you have any thoughts on this?
Ok ... so this has thrown my plans into confusion. I had in mind to attempt a project later on this year (following BMX riders along a BMX race track), for which I would need to buy a cinewhoop (I don't think flying up close to BMX riders, even when they're armoured up, with my Nazgul5 v2 would be a good idea because of the exposed props). I had in mind (partly from your earlier videos) to go for the Bumblebee v2 HD and hadn't given the Protek much of a thought until this video. So, based on what you know since you own both the Protek and the Bumblebee, which would you buy again if you could only get one?
Mine was only available as a PNP version. I tried two different ELRS receivers and I never could get the thing to communicate with the FC on UART1 or 2. I installed a XM+ on UART1 and it worked perfectly!. No idea why it would not work with CRSF in Betaflight, I have a dozen quads with ELRS and have never had a problem.
25 only for naked GoPro/Insta360, 35 for normal GoPro/Insta360/Osmo Action, Depends on what camera you wanna attach! Insta360 and BetaFPV Just released a naked Insta One R, so you don't have to assemble it Yourself
Hi, I would like to buy a cinewhoop. Wich is the better, Diatone Taycan or Iflight protek 35? I can't decide... I have an Iflight nazgul 5 4s, maybe the Taycan would make more sense..but i love this Protek 35 :)
Hello i would like to know what rates/pids you used, if you used stock ones or custom ones. I'd be interested to see your custom settings if so. thanks .
Hey Tom, if I was to be using this strictly for slow moving real estate type shots, would you think this would be as good as a Bumblebee style Cinewhoop? I have other freestyle quads, but won’t something new exclusively for slow movement. Cheers!
Like a normal cinewhoop, with no problem! Just lower your camera angle to around 10-15 degrees and go explore! It's really good at slow precision flying, if you master throttle management :)
I just got a protek35 analogue as my first ever pre-built new quad and it's ok, but nowhere near as smooth as most of my home-built 5" quads. I think it has potential but really disappointed with it jittery performance for what I'd hoped would be a more cinematic quad. Mine carries a gopro session 5 and wondered if I would need to re-tune to carry it smoothly?
Protek is the best cinewhoop.. it's meant for slower cinematic cruising and precision flying.. and for safe flying close to people.. It's not good for doing freestyle.. a 5 inch freestyle quad ofc flies a lot better :) I didn't re-tune my Protek, so sorry.. can't help you. The tune I got directly from factory was actually great
@@tomstrojnik @Tom Strojnik yes, I get that, but even in slow flight mine is very jittery compared to cinematic flow with even my old circa 2017 RaGG-e frame and wondered if it was a fault with mine, as i get nowhere near the smoothness that you attain. Thank you for your reply; appreciated. 🙂 Example of my old RaGG-e flown smooth - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Z6fNfUsnUKw.html
Curious why there’s a $110 diff between the two 35 versions, but only a $20 diff between the two 25 versions ??? E.g. why would anyone buy the analog 25 when you could get the 35 for $20 more?
I never used Flysky. Just write “flysky fs-i6x best receiver” in Google and do some research about what is best for you 😊 what I would do is sell it and go with tango 2 for crossfire receiver or with dji controller for dji receiver
Would this be a great cinewhoop for doing fly throughs on realestate? Also could the protek 25 take the gopro 9 without battery door and without battery. or is it too lively and like a 'racing drone' for indoors? I notice most of the cinewhoops are really underpowered
@@tomstrojnik Hi Tom, If I have the DJI goggles and remote that came with the DJI FPV, would I be able to use those with the Protek 35 or would I need to buy new Goggles and remote for it? Thanks!
You keep saying it flies like a racing drone. There are better drone choices if that's what you want to do. I want to make videos that require hovering and slow flight. How does it do at this? Does it yo-yo a lot like other Betaflight based Cinewhoops?
As I mention in the review, it can do slow precision flying with no problem. Hovering is all about throttle management, you can do slow flying and hovering with a racing drone as well - if you got the skill
@@tomstrojnik "if you got the skill" -- BINGO! For those of us who don't (don't want to make a career out of drones -- for us it's just a tool), how do we get DJI-like position hold in a Cinewhoop? A video from on you "how to" would be great! :o) Sample: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dxoSiCfbZrI.html
Right now, iFlight Facebook group is full of complaints, Protek35 units are dying left and right. Burned FC, ESC and what not. There is also couple of Protek25 users complaining about the same. Official iFlight word is that they know where the source of the problem is, and they have already released new batch of units ready to ship out. Link to Team iFlight FPV Facebook group (shortened with tinyurl): tinyurl.com/ydaf5gn6 - THIS IS AN OFFICIAL STATEMENT from iFlight: "We apologize for your bad experience with our Protek25 AIO. We've discovered an issue with the BlheliM (Jazzmaverick 16.9, our former Protek25 stock rpm filter ESC firmware) and the other custom JESC ESC firmware. BOTH firmwares do not work with our AIO for an unknown reason. Please stick to the official BlheliS release to prevent damage! Tickets will be handled today, replacement will be shipped out as soon as possible!"
Yeah I am following the fb group and as far as I know i saw only 2 posts about it i think..so looks like it’s a rare issue and they are handling it. This is their comment: “We ask everyone who's having an issue with a burned ESC or burned motor to immediately contact our helpdesk support. This issue has been not there yet and appears to be rare but just popped up on my radar so I need to investigate what's going on! iflightrc.freshdesk.com” And I’ve talked with some Protek25 owners and they said their drone works fine. And my Protek35 has no issues, works great. Anyway I am sure they will fix it and their customer service is great😊
@@tomstrojnik - regardless of is it two cases only (that's on Facebook group alone), I am sure they might be much more people who are going to run into these problems under specific circumstances. Not everybody uses their quads the same way, so all bases needs to be covered in order to have a good quality product out there in the wild. The thing is, problem is unfortunately out there, and they will have to fix it. Good companies do that for their customers, after all, customers are who feeds those companies. They spend their hard earned money, so it natural to expect to get the good product in return.
Unfortunately, few more people to add to this list. Thant Lynn Han posted originally about his problem, and then Michiel, Niels, Trevor and Joey mentioned they unfortunately experienced the same trouble. Link: facebook.com/groups/1126000407525570/permalink/3536599899798930 - let's just hope iFlight will be on the top of the things and help them with this. I've heard good things about iFlight customer service, so I have faith in them.
I only promote products I actually like and use.. and I always share my honest feedback. This is THE BEST cinewhoop on the market atm.. It's not perfect, but it comes pretty damn close.. Disclaimer: The best from those I had the opportunity to test.. and there were plenty.
@@tomstrojnik For sure, try doing split-s on your regular cinewhoop :) Cool video and cool tech by iFlight, I love the look and maybe will try it if I will be rebuilding mine
