Agreed, Swiatek is special. Not sure why the 'take Venus out of the equation' caveat. Or is he just saying she's not in their league, which I pretty much agree with? Then again, if Serena had been more like a top 15-30 player rather than the GOAT of the WTA, who knows how many majors, 1000s and WTA Finals Venus may have won. But Swiatek, Henin and Serena are the best I can say I've seen the last 20 years.
Iga does not ve same path than most great players. She grown upp without great coaches or competitors playing basically on clay or very poor hard cords. Any wc to bigger tournaments that would gave her chance to get experience as some other young talents ve. She improves year by year- playing better on faster venues aw ( compare her Australia with tbis year when she won all matches on 2 different sourfaces and than got problems on the 3rd one- still previle Kenin & Collins- it was just 2 much adjustement with new serve etc imo). Her grass is hard to fix coz she always finish clay season late & its also very intensive for her cuz she play like to the final all tournaments)- so here she needs time & Im not sure if/ when she can play great there. But one thing is sure- her talent is unbelivable if she could get this possition with her backgrund. Happy that Andy is talking about it cuz its not so common amount American commentators. So tx for this.
The ladies game is in a really great place now imho. Last year you had a different champion at each of the slams. TEF decided you was going to be year end No.1.After Swiatek, Saba, Vonderousa, Gauff you still have Rybakina, you still have Osaka, Andreescu, Ostepenko, Jabeur, Svitlona, Keys, Kostyuk(spelling), Pegula. All of whom are capable of creating an upset. There is so much depth and variety right now that it feels like every slam/1000 could be about who is on their day. The elephant in the room for me is Ash Barty. If she had continued to play, how would've that affected the dynamic?...
My favourite sport is Football/Soccer but for me it's going the wrong way.. Tennis I always watched majors since I can remember, past year or so I've been watching more tour events.. Also a F1 fan o would say those three sports are my favourites now
People's affection for Barty is mostly due to her nice, "technical" game style. However if you look at pure numbers, Barty never had such dominant season as Iga's 2022 or 2023. She wasn't unbeatable either.
And question is how much Swiatek will improve in the next three years, she has fixed her first serve to the stable 115 mph/ 185 km/h with 70-75 % win rate. She has played now 301 games and lost only 68 of them, nobody is even near to this kind of win rate. Like these commentators rightly say, she is a generational talent with the huge work ethic. Everyone expects this kind of player to win at all surfaces ar once, but the time is on her side.
@@Mysicalgreenunicorn03 You are really mystical, she has just improve her first serve? She has the best second serve. The forehand speed is only 4 mph less than Sinner, nobody hits backhand on ATP side faster, plus she has 3000 rpm top spin on her forehand. Nobody is faster to cover the whole court….the list is endless.
