Here are 4 high-quality layout tools from iGaging - two stainless steel double squares (4" and 6") and two stainless steel bench squares (4" and 7"). The quality of these woodworking tools is very impressed and given the reasonable price, this is an excellent alternative to the likes of Woodpeckers and Starrett for those on a budget.

Leave a comment with some tools that you have found offer great value! It would be great to find some other brands along the lines of iGaging.

Great video! Have always been impressed with iGaging stuff. It is great to see them getting some well-deserved attention!

Thanks! Funny that the gateway for me was a $6 ruler (which should easily be much more). Very impressed so far and I hope they keep making new items. I'd love to see something like Woodpeckers Paolini rule from them.

I have these same exact squares!! AND I love them so much!! The feature really help me with layout lines for shaker style cabinet doors. They're solidly made and I find they are more comfortable to work with than the woodpeckers version. I made a custom case for them just because I had some birds eye maple laying around and some walnut.

I have an iGaging Digital Caliper that, I bought 3+ years ago, for CAD design in my 3D printing hobby. Love it. Seems to be very accurate. Even took a drop and keeps working. Came with a spare battery. Haven't needed it yet. Thanks for the recommendations!

Awesome to hear, thanks for sharing! They seem to have quite a handful of digital measurement tools that are very well reviewed.

I have the 3" Woodpeckers square that I absolutely love. It wasn't terribly expensive at the time. I will definitely look at the iGaging bench square set, at least the 7" version. The scribing holes and the offset base are what really make these tools super useful. I recently bought the iGaging Snap Check height gauge and that is really a cool tool to have. I did some half laps by just measuring the stock (with a ruler) and dividing in half and then eye-balling the height of my saw blade and it was close, but definitely not what I would have wanted. The next time, I used the iGaging Snap check. I measured the thickness of the work piece, divided that in half and then set the height of the saw blade, all using the Snap Check. The half laps came out perfect. An amazing tool for $30. Couldn't be happier. iGaging is definitely worth a look when considering nice layout tools.

Woodpeckers has always appeal in a couple of ways - precision products, and (relatively) small-batch production. Some day, I'll build up a bit of a collection of red, haha! That Snap Check looks really cool and is really well-priced - might have to get one of those when the need comes up.

Nice shout out for busy bee tools my friend. Igaging is said to be as precise as Starret and, as you know, much cheaper. I gaging is well worth the money as far as i am concerned. Keep up the great work.

Thanks Glenn! I don't have a lot from iGaging, but my experience so far has been great. They seem to have a lot of other precision instruments for dialing in larger power tools.

I use the iGaging caliper and love it! For squares, I purchased some of the PEC blem combination and double squares. They have nothing other than slight cosmetic issues. I absolutely love them. Much HEAVIER than the cheaper ones I own and are dead accurate. And in just glancing, they're comparable in price to iGaging. I found them over at Taylor Toolworks per a video from Katz-Moses. I have a Woodpeckers small delve square too and absolutely love it but they're definitely proud of it. I'm tempted to purchase the iGaging version just to compare! 😊 Great video! Thanks for taking the time!

I highly recommend the iGaging bench square as an alternative to the delve . Dead on accurate and quality construction.

This is a great tip. I was going to upgrade my drill press from the same Mastercraft one you have to a WEN but decided to go this route!

Like these bench squares, do they also have a metric version?
@MasonWoodshop
@MasonWoodshop 2 года назад
Oooh, that's a great question! I just did some searching and it does seem that iGaging does produce these bench squares in metric, although availability seems to differ by region/country. Can't seem to find them in Canada or USA.

Bought the metric set from chips fly in the US. Good value as compared to the red ones, but buying in Canada and paying in US$is not cheap. Just over $100 cdn.

@ronkrueger3496 Год назад
@chuckbogart9382 if you're not aware chipsfly is igaging's sister company and their prices are in many instances less expensive than Amazon or the iGaging page. As an FYI, their customer service people are the owner/designer/engineer of iGaging or his wife.

Made overseas, China??. Let's hope that they're at least paying, or escrowing the payment, for the patent holder. I expect that they are, since they do indicate they are patent pending. I gotta say though, I do prefer the blue over Woodpecker's red.

Those double squares suck, I bought them and the adjustment nuts don’t hold the blade well. When you do get them tight it’s a bitch to get them loose. Also the block gets rusted if they are exposed to humidity. Just get a PEC tools square or a Starret. PECcis pretty reasonable.
@MasonWoodshop

I've heard great things about PEC, will consider!

They’re 20 bucks, you can’t expect the quality of a $85.00-$100.00 starret double square.. I own the forged Starret 6” and 12” combo squares and a 4 inch starret double square. I bought a Igaging 4” to just have laying around when I need something quick or to use to set up tools. They’re amazing for the price. If you aren’t doing the most fine/precision woodworking or metal working, the starret aren’t necessary, I love them but honestly didn’t need to spend the money on them. But they’ll be able to be handed down to my kids and their kids. They’re better for sure but that’s what you pay for. You can do a little modifying with fine sand paper so the igaging aren’t so crude but you can’t expect much. Super accurate though! Starrett comes how you’d expect but that’s why you pay $100.00-$200.00 for them

i also have the double squares but almost never use because fighting them is more frustrating than their usefulness. i may try a little rubber or plastic washer in there to get more range between "sloppy loose" and "fused together until summer"
