Picture this: It's the night before the exams. Your heart's beating out of your chest, your skin, as pale as skimmed milk; frantically trying to cram all 2 years' worth of material... Then out of left field, IGCSE success posts a video summarizing the mountain of work. Ahh... anxiety, washed over, with calm, contentment, and peace.
picture this: your heart thumping faster, stomach clenched and all the cells in the body feeling flaccid. We all know what Im talkng about, Exams, one of the most frightening parts of a student's life. Worth 2 years material trying to practise in 1 day? but don/t worry, because you're not alone. We all are going from the same situation. The angst is engulfing me. But IGCSE success video felt like the ony ray of sunshine to the darkness i am in
Thank you for helping us all, even if it was literally the night before the exam. I was able to answer today’s ENG p1 2024 with relative ease thanks to your video(s)🙏🏻
i know you but you don’t know me but i just wanna say that YOURE A LIFE SAVER. please keep doing what you’re doing because i know that so many younger students will benefit from this!
Hey sir I spent a good 35 minutes on the question 3 I used some decent vocabulary, such as testament, apprehensive, muse and I used rhetorical questions as well as well as an anecdote, I covered content decently writing 5,4,4 points for each bullet point respectively
@@ZEN_180 I had also predicted it so I could learn before time. I was however confused due to my doubts. As to whether I was doing the right thing or not. I did a great job though
@@AbenaBoakye Thats Great, bro😭 It was the one thing I didn't study extensively which also didnt help because I was tight with time at the end. I literally had moments to come up with something before It ticked.
As long as formal thk tha, nothing will happen. I aced every question but just wrote a heading Journal writing but kept up with the format of speech. So this isn't a big deal. They'll just check the format
@@maybella7976omg yes I was so upset at first but surprisingly was able to answer it well until I came to question 3 and realised my hopes of getting an A is gone. I never practiced a formal report 😭. Mine sounded more like a letter.
@@FatimaAsif-fx8ql Yes summary was a bit challenging as well. Let’s just hope that the grade boundaries are not that high for this paper. Hopefully I will do better on Paper 2.
@@Kpopfangirl6657 it was fine i guess, i definitely wrote way too much, on the report question that we got. The text itself was not to my liking, about Alaska and Sleds being pulled by dogs… uhm i almost failed to finish it because i spent too much time doing the report and i left out the Analyze question… i think its 2f or something…
@@Mariang04 OMG the exact same thing happened to me. I finished the small questions and then I decided to do the report which was so bad. I couldn’t find any points and I feel like my writing was very basic. Then I had 15 minutes left for language analysis so I was just rushing to finish. I hope that the grade boundaries are lower this year.
@@Mariang04 Yes I know maybe if it was a different structure but I lost a lot of time on that. I really wanted to get a good mark but I lost a lot of marks on that.
Hey ! I accidently wrote a big heading " Journal " in talk writing question but followed the formal of the speech/ talk and wrote decent amount of developed points. Will I get all of my marks deducted ?
Unluckily I got the Formal report text type😭I surely hope I got some marks, anything would help. I did do decent on the writers effect question, I borrowed alot of the starter phrases such as "Firstly...Additionally...Secondly...Moreover...Lastly...Furthermore..."
Hi IGCSESUCCESS! If you see this before the exam, I followed everything on this video. However, on my February mock I went over the word count to like 400. I developed each bullet point but because I was over I got told it was an imbalanced focus of the bullet points and got marked down detrimentally. Was this correct marking and can I go over the word count in my exam? In fairness though, it is my schools first time doing the exam board so it may be wrong. 😄
You still want to write three equal sized (ish) paragraphs, so there does need to be a ‘balance’. Going over the word count is fine providing what you write is focused.
Help I couldn’t finish my paper on time because I was busy trying to ace my other questions. For summary I reworded everything and used some connectives in it but I’m worried about the amount of words I wrote but it wasn’t Beyond the “[15]” part. For speech I was rushing I did 2/3 bullet points and didn’t finish . I’m trying to still aim for 50+ though. Do you think I can get that ?
Sir, your timing is absolutely impeccable. :D just a question, how many words should I write? Is it okay if I go over the word limit, and how much time should I spend here? Edit: Hi! Just came back from my exams and it went really well!!! Thank you so much, saved me from being "knee-deep" in a lotta trouble :>
You definitely need a good 40 minutes for this question - no less. Write as much as you can, even if that means going over the word count. 2 pages is a good amount.
Really appreciate your efforts. Your content is extremely useful and very helpful. For the paper exam, question 3 it was formal report. Do you know the penalty for missing the title, overview and subheadings which i guess are important components of of the formal report format ?
@@IGCSESUCCESS THANK U means the world. Also this means for Q3 I did not include a distinct intro and conclusion paragraph I hope it’ll be ok. I started with a quotation as well and used idioms as it says in your videos. I didn’t count the words since it says no penalty if I exceed the word limit but my summary was 120 words. Your videos helped a lot in solving today’s IGCSE though, thank you so much.
Thank you so much sir, this is a great help! Just a quick question - my teacher has been telling us that if we go over the word count they straight away stop reading our response? Is this true? My main issue with most writing types is the word count so would really love to hear your thoughts and if we are truly penalised as heavily for going over
Gosh - this is erroneous information. I used to mark myself… we are advised to read everything! Marks can be deducted if you lose focus… obviously the more you write the harder it is to sustain focus on the task/make careless errors.
Sir thank you so much for this video!! but i do have one question, is it MANDATORY to write subheadings for magazine articles. If we dont write it would we end up losing marks for format?
Hi, I was looking at the mark scheme for q3, and find out that we need to “develop” the point. Does this mean that we can imagine we are the character and create new point base on the given context or do we need to stick with the text and developing with the given knowledge?
Development refers to making suitable inferences based on what you have read. Sometimes the bullet point gives you what you need to develop; it’s followed by ‘and’ - if not, inferences can be anything providing it’s relevant. Thoughts and feelings usually works well.
@@durr2740It was a speech and I approached it the same but didn't write that (Hello teachers!) Nor I ended up with a thanks. Idk about my approach but pretty sure u did right
Hi Muaz, Having read the examiner responses - many students spend time rewording the interview questions / making up extra questions, and it’s not really needed. You are marked on your responses… three questions… three paragraphs. I haven’t seen Taughtly’s video you are referring to- but she’s great.
@@IGCSESUCCESS oh okay thank you for the quick response in her video she said to write it as a script between the interviewer and the other person. so the layout should just be answering the questions in each paragraph? sorry im still confused
Thanks a lot. Just a wuick question about writer's effect. Do we explain the implicit meanings in the quotes or the explicit ones? In order to mange a reasonable word count.
Hi, check out my recent writer’s effect video; I would follow my structure. Spend 30 minutes on it and don’t worry if you go over the word count. The writer describes… The writers use of imagery refers to - explain what the image means on an explicit level Additionally, the writer’s use of (zoom in) suggests… implicit exploration. Some teachers get students to zoom in and then explore the explicit meaning and implicit meaning of a word… that’s fine, too.
I really appreciate how you make English first language simple and easy for us, your videos encourage us to stay positive and work hard even though we sometimes feel not confident. This video relieved my stress for my upcoming exam after 3 hours. Thank you the worlds best English teacher 🤍
hey, so i just finished the exam, and for the summary they stated that we cannot go above 120 word limit, however I wrote about 150, will I loose a lot of marks due to this?
I just came back from my ESL igcse exam. I did have enough space for my article, so I wrote the back page called a blank page. But I am worried about whether my answer on that page will be considered?
Also, if I just have a sentence left and there is no space left in the lines given for the answer can I continue beneath it on the white part especially for three markers if question one and two or do I continue it on the additional sheet
