I remember reading a book years ago by Danny Sugerman. He said that after Jim Morrison of The Doors died he was looking into the idea of replacing him with the relatively unknown (at that time) Iggy Pop. He brought Iggy out to his place in LA and Iggy stayed in his house. He came back one day to find Iggy passed out on the kitchen floor with the refrigerator pulled down on top of him. He called an ambulance and in the hospital the doctor looking after Iggy told Danny to prepare for the worst as Iggy had taken enough heroin to kill four people. If he somehow survived, he would likely be a vegetable for the rest of his days. Danny went home in despair and thought he would be preparing a funeral. When he went to the hospital the next morning, the doctor couldn't believe what he was seeing - after enough heroin to kill four people, Iggy simply slept it off and was wide awake and alert in bed and asking Danny what he wanted to do today - he didn't have any ill effects at all!
Interesting because Iggy has said Jim influenced him, after seeing the Doors perform in Ann Arbor, MI. Sounds like that would not have been good for Iggy though to say the least.
Best live performance of this song hands down, it singlehandedly made me get into Iggy Pop and I've never been happier. From the min he says "watch me dance like a fool" I was hooked
I think I'm just as cool, but I don't have coke and money and I can't dance and sing at once and write brilliant social commentary songs that are secretly conservative cool. like that black chick who writes for that radical magazine that no one reads, at least not paper shit nowadays. anything that really matters, you pay something for and it arrives in the mail and you clutch it and dream and wonder at what's inside and tell yourself that maybe just maybe you'll leave enough behind to pay for your burial and that's it. oh, and Iggy pop. and the idiot. and kill city. and yeah James W.
See this proves it, no need for a big fancy costume or makeup or stage lights and effects. This man has just got raw talent. That is what makes him one of the best performers ever... :D
Comrade Stalin Bowie is my favourite artist. Even if he didn't have all that makeup and costume and lights and stage sets, he'd still be the greatest fucking artist there has ever been. The thing about his image was that it changed so frequently, so you were able to see all parts of him. That's why I love him so much.
i saw iggy pop open for red hot chili peppers last friday and i'm still in awe over his stage presence !!!! this man has so much energy seeing him live is the best thing ever
An awesome singer who was born with mussles, took drugs, but survived all this ... I was lucky to have experienced a concert of him, together with The Pretenders, Peter Gabriel, etc at T/W ... good old days
The third live experience I had as a shy teenager. First, Hawkwind, second the Damned n then Sir Iggy. Realised these were my people in the audience n this was my leader. Manned up a bit, dyed my hair gold n red n then had a marvellous time!
Fantastic, love you Iggy. So many enjoyable hours in my home spent listening to your LP's, bootlegs and all. Now so much more for me to discover on the net.
+Diego Martin Pintos Urzagaste even if true... so what?? it's still IGGY performing it! all this RIP Bowie on Iggy's videos are just stupid. Iggy first inspired Bowie anyway.
I was on this tour after the album "Brick by Brick" in Zagreb in 1991. Iggy was great, Bowie performed a few months earlier in Zagreb in 1990. Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds performed in Ljubljana in the summer of 1990 and many others, the good old days, a few months after Iggy's concert the fucking war started in Yugoslavia.
