I should say I do think they can update a lot of things (like they did in other remakes) that are outdated for today. Update them in a way that pays respect to the cultures and highlights just how tragic the events are to the people of Africa. It will make for both a better game and a better story. Giving them a proper story is better than just removing them altogether.
I am telling this to you right now you are absolutely and completely right and I will say this not only as an individual with intelligence and Faith but also as a person of color specifically a black man (which in my own personal opinion doesn't make sense because we're the color of mud) I honestly enjoyed Resident Evil 5 story and the whole story of Resident Evil I would like to have a new game with better gameplay and an improvement from the original and I am very much not Against Racism being expressed in fiction and media but it must always be a thing of evil that cannot be forgotten so people will not forget it racism is just another example of people doing things for less and thus should not be forgotten that that's how bad Humanity can get but when it comes to the scenario of Resident Evil there is no such thing as racism in the story as you said we all just went through a pandemic the people in IGN even letting this video be posted or even more offensive because they offend every single person that just went through a pandemic heck we can make an entire story with a coronavirus alone seeing how governments have been doing individually in their own countries and that would be more than enough to fuel the Resident Evil stories 4 years to come but for them to make that type of a highlight is so offensive that realistically I as a person of color now hate the concept of this type of virtue signaling in general because it just makes racism into being more powerful than it actually is actually forget racism this is the dumbest video I have ever seen that could have just simply been a good critique on making a remake of an original game only to make excuses for something that is not relevant racism in video games is not a relevant argument because storytelling is storytelling evil and good to show good if you want to show a gray area in the story you can but it might not be as good

In RE5 it wasn’t just black people getting “gunned down” and Capcom knew this so there added other races in there also. In RE4 we deleted a small Spanish town and in RE6 we went to China and pretty much did the same thing and as a black person myself I really don’t see any issue with this.
My friend, she is from Africa, and she played this game and loved it. She even found the tribal outfit beautiful. No black people in the game that were killed, were not already infected.
It would be far more racist if Africa was EXCLUDED. Because zombies aren’t a Hollywood thing. Zombies are actually Haitian and West African culture. What we see as a fictional Hollywood monster, those people take extremely seriously. So therefore it only makes sense that a zombie virus has its origins in Africa. And Capcom deserves a lot of praise for giving Haitian and West African folklore some acknowledgment.

Since this is getting commented a lot; I didn't know that you could get Code Veronica on newer consoles in the Market Places. I hadn't noticed it in there before. So that's an oversight on my part.
Going to go off on my own little rant, so sorry for the long read. I absolutely agree with everything you've said. What's funny is that if you actually look at RE5, you'll see the enemies consist of a very diverse array of people. You'll see black, white, asian, indian, etc. You'd think that since the game takes place in sub-saharan Africa that almost all of the infected civilians you encounter would be black. But no, there's all sorts of people there. The reason Capcom did that was to avoid any accusations of being "racist" from these IGN-type people who would say things like, "OMG a game where you kill only black people?!!?!?!?!". Capcom did the opposite what these people are claiming Capcom did. Also where were these people when Resident Evil 4 came out? RE4's enemies are almost exclusively white Spanish Europeans. By their logic, isn't that extremely racist to being killing just one race of people? These people cherry-pick their nonsensical arguments. They're the people who have infected and ruining the gaming industry. And now here we are, 15 years later, and the same people are whining about the same exact thing. I hope they do eventually remake RE5, and if they do want them to do a couple things: 1) Rewrite/re-design certain parts of the story/game sections 2) Make it actually scary 3) Make a vast majority of the enemies black, not only because it makes sense, but also to make all these SJW virtue-signalers lose their minds
I definitely agree that they should change a lot more stuff up in the RE5 Remake by adding new stuff that wasn’t in the original. To give it a more horror feel I think there should be times where Chris is separated from Sheva since having her by Chris’s side made the game feel not horror like enough. I think there needs to be dark stealth sections for Chris in these creepy African villages perhaps add some dark African Jungles as well. Think of how Far Cry 2 looked. But since Chris is very military trained by that point in the franchise I think we need to see Chris take on a Metal Gear Solid or Splinter Cell or Ghost Recon type of feel to the game but with a horror feeling to it and going loud will overwhelm Chris because of the hordes of villagers can make Chris run out of ammo and Chris will need to use bullets wisely and use stealth kills. Perhaps use Sheva as an order to kill a certain enemy just like in the Ghost Recon games. Also since it’ll be really dark Chris will have to use night vision goggles but there’s batteries for the night vision and you gotta scavenge for batteries when the Night Vision dies. I think all what I described would be a great way to reimagine RE5 with a balance of horror and action like how RE4 Remake did it which was a fantastic balance.
I didn't have any problems playing re5 twice on the 360 or ps4 and I'm black. I didn't feel offended or outrage. Bring race on a 16 year old game that people didn't have a problem with in the first place including black people is just stupid.
The thing I dislike about the Code Veronica rerelease is the PS3 version was a HD Remaster with widescreen and enhancements but it only had 12 trophies for some odd reason. Then on PS4 instead of porting that version over they used the PS2 version and put that on the store as part of their "PS2 on PS4" selection of games but the upside was it had a full trophy list with a Platinum if you care about those like I do.
You can hard lock from a boss if you don't prepare properly. Also you can screw yourself with leaving no weapons for the chris part. Also last boss as well as other parts are buggy and not great
I would love to just see more in the world of resident evil 5, backstory, maybe kind of a side sorry like they did with Ada but instead put you through the perspective of Jill while being minded controlled.. I love just more dark, and more scary scenes,.honestly I feel like some chapters of the game if they set it at night would just add that creepy, unsettling feeling.
I think they can very much keep the games main story while removing the tribal aspect of the enemies. Keep them modern, there was no reason to make the Las Plagas virus change them THAT much
Just an FYI for those who havent played the game, They got flack for Re5 when it first trailer came out, but they changed the models to include different ethnicities. Sheva is one of the main protagonists of the game. 2 of the suporting cast are also African characters also all the main villians are white. Honeslty RE5 could have taken place anywhere, the location is not a big focus of the plot. I agree that I would like to see the game remade to fit in line with the RE2,3 and 4 remakes and expand the gameplay style, honeslty make it scarier. Maybe changed the Oroboros Boss models to something a bit more readable. especially Weskers final boss design. It could be a lot better if it resembled a parasite ridden tyrant. Also Code Veronica is on the Playstation store. only learned this after getting a PS2 copy of the game.
The dumb thing about the article and video is that the villagers are portrayed as sympathetic people in the game since they were used by Wesker and Tricell as guinea pigs. Also I would prefer a CV remake before 4 remake given that it's the game that sets up Chris and Wesker's rivalry which is resolved in 5. But if 5 got a remake they could easily just make the game more open.
Great video man and really thought out. I just wanted to point out one thing and that's Code Veronica is easier to get than you listed. Currently available on PS3, PS4 and PS5 to play. It's one of the easier classic games to get.

If I remember the lore correctly, I think Resident Evil 5 reveals the progenitor virus, which is the original source to enhance the virus to create the T-Virus. And using it to enhance the plagas to create uroboros. But I think that is why Africa in RE 5 was the core center of why Wesker released the bio wealons. And because Umbrella set up their research there. And yes, Resident Evil 6 took place in China during the climax event. As much I did enjoyed it with my bro, I think RE 6 needs a heavy fixes on making a survival horror. But honestly I want to see Code Veronica Remake. It is definitely a must need. But if RE5 remake is coming....I am open to it as well.
My favorite RE game is RE5. And I really doubt that they can make a better remake. Graphics yes, the rest definitely not, I don’t want to listen to new dialogues that don’t make sense. And I have a physical copy of RE5, which is better than the one on Steam version, because it has DirectX10 that performs so much better than DirectX9.

IGN wannabe writter calls Re5 the weakest in the series. Looking back to IGN Review from 2009 they gave Re5 a 9 out of 10 and wrote „you’re exploring a great story and excellent gameplay“ Find the failure…..
I would also like to point out that in RE 5 specifically the marshlands you can find a journal that was written by one of the villagers describing what they’re day to day lives were like before the infection took over and started to drive everyone insane. That’s the point of every single RE game, to show the tragedy of how a drastic infection can change someone, granted it’s to the extreme but still and RE has a wide variety of enemies with different races that you can find in the OG trilogy, 4,5,6,7 the list goes on and on. To blatantly call RE 5 “Racist” and to say that’s its biggest flaw is just absurd, while by no means is the game perfect it’s far from terrible, it’s these kinds of takes that make me worry about a potential RE 5 remake, I would love to see it of course but what if they listen to the wrong feedback and town it down heavily?, to me that would just remove the tragic aspect of 5 and make it feel cheap.
It feels weird that they said an RE5 Remake could have a black protagonist when the original has Sheva Alomar. On solo campaigns, you can play as Sheva and have Chris be your A.I. partner, so she's as much "the protagonist" as Chris is. I can agree that RE5 doesn't always have the best optics when it comes to race, but that doesn't make it inherently racist.

For me, Resident Evil is main point is not Horror, but Lore. As long, as they stay true to RE Lore, it´s good. I agree, it´s not good if it´s to much action, that´s why RE5 was good. Otherwise they can make an RE in the style of Aliens, there you only can run away or hide, never be able to fight back.

The opening of RE5 should be reworked. Instead of showing people beating someone in a sack, change it to a normal daily life, and slowly progress into the population getting infected.
Agreed. Or have flashbacks to before the virus spread. They could show who these people were beforehand, and it would give a much more emotional impact when we find them infected.
The beginning is meant to show that they were infected from the beginning. If you zoom in on their eyes they're already red. There's even a zombie eating raw meat. But I completely agree that it would add a bit more if it was worked a little more.

Ill give you a list. Making them poor and uncivilized before the infection. Making them dress in centuries old tribal attire. Making the “native”, indian and dutch mix. Not making any natives main bosses. Not making the male protagonist a native.
Here’s what they need to do for the RE5 remake. First, no co-op. Instead, separate Chris and Sheva into their own different but interconnected stories. Make it an A and B scenario kind of like RE2. Both of them are there as BSAA agents to neutralize the BOW presence in the area, but they’re there for personal reasons as well. Chris is there to find Jill. Sheva, who grew up in the area, is there to save her people who aren’t infected. They both have empathy for each other’s personal goals and they work together from different directions to ultimately achieve their professional goal of neutralizing the BOW threat. The game culminates with both of them fighting Wesker with the player controlling that campaign’s protagonist. The B scenario ends with the fight in the volcano.
For the most part it could work, but I think removing Co-op from the remake is redundant... Then by that point it's not RE5 anymore. Only things I feel need to improve for a RE5 remake is add more horror elements to balance out with the action and improve Sheva's partner AI.
i do disagree in a way about the accessibility of code veronica. youre not wrong in any way, but it is available for free on xbox!!! not easy to play, but it was also on the 360 so it was a port from there i believe!! you can very much play it on new gen consoles of xbox, but i know many ppl do not own a xbox anymore, but it is a little more accessible than what it looks like! but yes, re5 is way more accessible and definitely does not need a remake compared to veronica. i hope this gives you a bit more knowledge of the accessibility!! unless u knew this already, then i just nerded on you with no meaning :3

A PC port for Code Veronica would've been nice for better and long term accessibility just like how original RE1, RE2, RE3, Dino Crisis 1 & 2, RE0, RE1 Remake got theirs. Most people (especially now) are not going to bother with backwards compatibility or emulation. Always puzzling why Code Veronica never got a PC port.
I feel like it would be pretty weird to have a game set in Africa and there be no black people… This is probably the most shortsighted criticism ever, and really quite silly. I actually laughed out loud when the video got to that part and he’s just like “RACISM.” It almost felt like satire. RE6 is a good game. I agree that most people who REALLY don't like it, is because of the action. Most people who say they don't like it, haven't played the game and/or just following what everyone is saying. People who i talk to who played the game secretly enjoy it.
