Little tip I use when doing around door liners . I use duckt tape on the wood skim onto it and then just Peel of thus leaving a nice sharp clean edge😊

Great Video! I just started my own business after working 25 years doing Efis (Exterior, finishing, Insulation, System.), Stucco, Interior Plastering, and Stone/brick. Your details and explanations in every video are very underrated. Great job and I wish much success to you not only in your Plastering, but also Followers. 🤙🏻

Hi Blaine - when you say "don't worry about the PVA, I sometimes PVA the day before", Have you never had it where the plaster slides around on the wall as it's still wet?

A tip for you fellas. Give the customer a quote and itemise the prep and then the skimming. You can say you have allowed for 8 hours prep but if you find anything unexpected then it will be $/£ hour thereafter. This way you won't do yourself out of a quid on the prep. Quantify what you will do and what you won't do. Inclusions and exclusions

Yh,so I have no clue were to start with plastering and was wondering if it's even worth learning ??? I would like to build a business around it ultimately but one think that is stopping me is I don't see plasters at every other house working. The idea of plastering a full house for £3,0000 to £4,000 sounds nice but how many of them do you get a month ???? I think my biggest question is will you be fully booked up for months on end. I am not the one to turn down work especially if the money is there. Currently I am working in a bakery on a busy production line doing 12 hour shifts working roughly 60 hours a week to hit my target of just over £2000 after tax. Previously I have worked like 80 hours a week so I no I am not shy from putting in the hours. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you

if i cant see it but do see issues on outside I always add time, just like this job I learned from a small job that turned big......or I bid what i can see and re evaluate after demo or investigating.....and tell the owner.....show them exactly what is going on.......plus we always think we can do it faster than we actually can or do.......started in 1983 and learned alot especially with pricing since then

@carolinemoor738

That's a question I was going to ask. The second mix is supposed to be more loose and thin than the first, obviously it would start to thicken up so using extra time makes sense 😊

Hello Blaine, thank you for this video! Very informative. Question for you or any other plasterers: do you need to sand the final coat once the plaster has dried? Also, if there are imperfections such as trowel marks, small holes etc.. do you fill them after the miscoat or after? I thank you in advance. Seb

@PlasteringForBeginners

Exactly that my friend. They can cause damage!
@Ulfcytel
@Ulfcytel 10 месяцев назад
I'm a decorator - only use the steamer as a last resort, for exactly the reason you describe. If you have to use it, keep the steamer moving, don't leave it in one spot for long. Reduces the chance of blowing the plaster off. Painted wood-chip doesn't always repond even to steaming. A good sharp scraper and elbow grease the only solution sometimes.

As long as the client knows what preparation is needed prior to doing the actual plastering and like @nikthegreekcypriot says it's going to cost this amount. It's funny because some would want actual figures but if you told them to work an extra 30 minutes in their work for nothing they would spill tea down their front and walk off cursing, but in our line of work it could mean a whole morning and trip to merchants.
