We're going over New York Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin, and how his next contract could become a problem for the Rangers.

They already did this with Hank, when they had a really good alternative in Talbot. We know how that turned out. May sound crazy but maybe the Rangers should reconsider if it's really worth it to pay him that much money. You don't need the best goalie in the world to win a cup. You just need a good one.

I don't think it's crazy at all. I had similar thoughts too. Rangers have a good track record of developing awesome goalies and I wonder if it holds them back, b/c they rely on that strength too much, that they "cheat" on defense. So overpaying for a goalie at the cost of the rest of the team is the same over reliance except in money form. If you want any evidence why I think this is unwise, just look at the team that spanked us. Bobrovsky is a fantastic goalie, but the Panthers could have subbed an AHL goalie and gotten the same results. While Igor, at times, looked like he had a bunch of meat shields in front of him.

The players are always gonna over ask, org will under ask, that’s how this works. I could see the number coming down to 10.5-11. Rangers lose Igor it’s over for them for a loooong time

Igor isn’t the problem. He is the next foundation. You’re talking about a team who knows how important a franchise goalie is ie king Henrik. As far as the other rangers, they’re the problem. Not Igor. They were out playing football on the beach and hanging with their girlfriends across the street from their ft lauderdale hotel. They didn’t want it. Igor is the only reason they did as good as they did. The rest of them folded. The cap is going up. It’s bad for the team. Few else deserves a raise. Pay the man.

Just need the extensions for Lafreniere and Shesterkin to be 20m combined or less. However that math works out (12 for shesty, 8 for laffy - or 10 and 10) that's what needs to happen. The core of this team is Lafreniere, Fox and Shesterkin at this point.

Igor is a proven playoff commodity already worthy of a SC ring. Panarin & Zibby are making a fortune but haven’t delivered when necessary. Trouba’s contract is a joke. At least we know Igor earns his keep. Lots of bloated $ & term contracts on the books for Rangers which require shredding.

The Rangers could try to reason with Shesterkin that $12 mil per doesn't fit into the salary structure for the team and see if he would accept $10 mil per.

$12m is the low end. This team is paying Adam Fox $9.5m....you think Shesterkin is going to take 10? Haha There is NO WAY that happens. He will definitely be the highest paid player on the team at 12.

All NHL players deserve more money. They play in the same Arenas as the NBA. Why do the best NBA players make 20,30 million a year? Years ago the Islanders goalie had 100 million dollar contract for ten years. NHL players deserve more money and respect.

Probably because of the TV money. You can't compare the amount of money the NBA brings in compared to the NHL. The NHL has a much smaller viewing audience.

I get its the media's job in part to push for the highest contract available bc that is probably how they maintain "insider" relationships ... but in no way should nyr spend that much on a goalie. its just not smart to allocate that much to a goalie on a stanley cup aspiring roster. carey price is considered the comparable .. and how much did he win?

Igors gonna get 10.5 million for 8 yrs. Maybe more if he goes elsewhere. Remember, trouba, panarin,mika, ck, all going to be gone in the next 3 years . Thats about 35 million total
