Patriotism means to stand by the country and the people who fought for our rights and still fight for our rights. It does not mean to go out and buy guns and tote them around like your a badass. It does not mean to wave the confederate flag, thinking that flag represents what being a republican is. Last but not least god and religion has absolutely nothing to do with being a patriot.

It’s crazy to me that people aren’t here for the political chat. I genuinely get a nauseating wave of giddiness seeing an IHIP news waiting in my subscriptions. It gives me the peace of mind to sleep at night knowing that there are still sane, rational people left in America.

Yelling ignorance at the top of ones lungs has never been patriotism nor will it ever be the case...

My company is doing a deal with a Texas university and they have in the actual docs that we are not allowed to discriminate against oil companies or gun manufacturers. Insane that they feel these are the parties that need to be looked out for.

What Jon Stewart did for first responders and troops is amazing. But what is so depressing is you haven't seen that again from anyone since. Like seriously, why aren't people giving back and trying to help our society? Yeah, it takes a lot of yelling and complaining and annoying the right people. He's rich with a large audience, and more people need to do what he did in his position.

My career army father (WWII, Korea, Viet Nam) never called Don by name, but only "that draft dodging esso bee". I live in NC, very Red, and have very few friends as I am vocal. I love your show.

The U.S. Military has a major core issue with recruiting... the potential recruits hear from Veterans from Iraq (first go around), Iraq (second go around) and then Afghanistan (for over 20 years, the Soviets couldn't quell them, why did we think we could?) and see how they are being treated, cared and relied upon - and they aren't fooled. I told my step-sons that I would fund their college before enlisting in the military like I did. I refuse to have their government treat them like they have treated a lot of my brothers in arms over the decades. While I have been fortunate, there are THOUSANDS of Vets who have been marginalized, ignored, pandered to, lied to and gaslit over the years that have not been as fortunate.

The freedom they are talking about is the freedom of everyone who is a mirror image of themselves. No one else is allowed to believe something else and if they can stop their own children from being educated in any way that causes them to question their beliefs they will let their female family member die because they said so....because they know better than the creator who gifted the world with science....and seers.

I love your #1 reason because it's so true. The whole thing smacks of a bad apocalyptic movie. Everyone MUST work extra hard to protect our elections and keep Trump out of office. That means more than voting. Take an elderly or handicapped neighbor to the polls. If possible observe polling places and call police if any MAGAt tries to intimidate voters. Sign up to write letters for Vote Forward (I wrote and sent 620 in 2020). Vote for a strong slate of democracy supporters at every level. Go Team Democracy!

The wristband just says, "Anyone but Trump". I think we need to promote the notion that who you vote for in the voting booth is your business. What happens in the voting booth, stays in the voting booth! We need to appeal to that Rep woman in Oklahoma who thinks of herself as a rebel. I think you're bang on the money with talking about people voting for their own interests over collectivism. England has a similar problem. There was a programme made by BBC Scotland back in 2010 called "Why didn't the Scots vote Tory (conservative)". It started off as just an examination of the historical and cultural differences between the two nations and as to why Scotland has always been more of a collectivist society, long story short it's been baked into our culture for as far as back as anyone can find. What was interesting that they did surveys and interviews with similar socio-econmic groups in both Scotland and England. Scots were happy to pay more in tax if it helped those less fortunate than themselves and voted for making society better as a whole. Meanwhile in England the same group were voting for anyone that promised to help them personally more, to cut their taxes, to benefit them directly as individuals and to hell with everyone else. This leaves them open to very obvious grifters (see brexit for details). Unsuprisingly the BBC has since burried that documentary as the picture that emerged show the disparity in morality and was an unintentional boost to the Scottish indepdence movement.

All of our vets every single one of them should be covered anywhere for anything I mean everything from heart pills to abortions, ivf treatment, transitioning, anything eyes, dental all of it! I am so freaking sick of our government not careing for our vets! My grandpa has been dead almost a year now & VA was so incredibly lackluster not to mention we live in a small florida town so he would have to drive hours to get to any of the 2 that were in the kinda area & that is horse shit especially when your a prostate cancer patient on radiation where you must go there for hours several times a week on top of the waiting to get in while there or waiting for appointments or the long waits to get treatments approved then if they are in pain like he was then or like he was before the cancer they don’t want to do pain management type medicine just low dose light crap that left my grandpa feeling terrible pain all the time but he could not get covered nor could he afford the dr himself. When he needed false teeth he had to pay all the costs for everything! This never ever should be! Look at all the money we give isreal when we should never be they have tons of money & oil was just found & is being extracted now or very soon, all of them have free healthcare for everything even Abortion! Like wtf however aipac is literally buying & controlling all of our politicians & we are slipping into theocracy! It is all terrifying & don’t attack me I myself am Ashkenazi & have always been the biggest defender of Jewish people as my own great great & 3rd great grandparents & their close family fled here from Germany starting in 1919. I continue to look on horror in what is happening in the country of my birth and, I’ve said too many times yet bears more repetition: I’m so glad I left when I did in 2004, because I can only imagine, as a mixed-race, bisexual, agnostic woman what would happen to me had I remained in the states. I’ve only been back a few times, and that was to attend a couple of funerals and a wedding, but I’m keeping myself on the eastern side of the Atlantic Ocean for the foreseeable future. I fear for all of my friends who can’t escape because they’re too poor to leave, even though they desperately want to get out. Keep up the fight.

Don’t forget the great myth that America was built by rugged individuals who came to this magnificent wide open land and while grasping their bootstraps built it into the great country it is. I think that plays more into the individualism psyche than religion. It ignores that many who first came here were already wealthy and educated, the need to enslave and import Africans and to have poor laborers immigrate from various countries to further enrich many already well off, to open lands by relocating indigenous peoples to allow those rugged individuals to claim that land, etc. Many Americans want to believe the their hard work alone will make them rich and successful myth, so they want someone to blame when it doesn’t happen. To maintain the myth they let the rich and powerful point them to nonwhite and/or non-native born groups as the ones ruining the American Dream, so they won’t realize who really benefits the most.
