This is a great solution. I was also looking on the lighter smaller side. This is plenty big enough inside to be comfortable and sleep, and looks great, and at 125 lbs. shouldn't be much of a top heavy issue. Im sure you may feel it or hear it at highway speeds, but that is the tradeoff. Looks pretty sharp. This is probably the one I would go with. I also like the moonroof and the map of the world on the back side. databyter
Thank you for the review. I have a couple of questions. Is it difficult/practical to take it out and have it back regularly? What is the mpg hit like? Does it affect driving dynamics?
Thanks for sharing the videos. Have you changed the original Subaru crossbar? I am thinking about iKamper 3.0 for 4 person size. Do you think it will fit outback?
I have the big ikamper on it, its great but you can definitely feel the weight/drag on the highway, and around turns. How has the mini felt driving around with it on?
The mini is definitely a nice small size and doesn’t feel like much on the car actually. On the freeway it’s noticeable and in heavy winds but beyond that it’s like it’s not there
When you say "the big ikamper," you're talking about the ikamper skycamp 3.0 right? How bad is the over hang on the forward and back end of the car? And do you have any trouble opening the trunk?
I have the big size tent on my outback, what bothers me is the width of the tent not the length because when it rains, all water comes into the car when I open the window or the door, I see this mini version is also quite wide, almost as wide as mine. I don’t know. The second problem with mine is that it is quite heavy ti out in and out, even two strong people struggle with it. It should be much easier with the mini
Thanks for the review, have you actually tried removing this yet? Appreciate with two you fitted ok. I can only consider if it’s relatively easy to remove and reinstall when being used. 🙏
Did you use the 1.0 or the 2.0 mount? Curious about locking the iKamper to the roof rack! Thanks for the video, it helped me picture what the set up would look like.
It’s the 2.0 mount! I think that’s the best for traditional crossbars. In terms of locking, we paid $89 for the iKamper locks so that we could have some peace of mind with public parking!
Have you taken your OB offroad with the iKamper on it? Roads with potholes, ruts, and rocks? If so, how did the car/rack handle it with the 125lbs on it. The RTT has to act like a reverse pendulum?
Hows the height for you? I was going to run the Yakima HD bars with timberline towers. Can you easily reach the clasps? I was struggling to open my RTT on top of my stock suspension f150
Yes I can easily reach them, the only issues I’ve encountered is that the clasps sit directly over the crossbars, which makes latching and unlatching slightly more difficult due to the small space to work with
Hi! This looks like a viable option for myself. Thanks for sharing. I have the ice silver wilderness. I am wondering if the tailgate opens all the way with the tent up there. I put my paddle board on the thule paddle board carrier and the tailgate wont open all the way. Its not a big deal on a day trip but would be annoying on a camping trip. Just curious...
Got a 2021 Crosstrek Sport which I lifted 2" and swapped out the tires for Toyo AllTerrain III's that are 225/65 17" so gained 3/4" at the pumkin and with the lift I have a total of 11 3/4" and put a skid plate on the front .. I went with the Trek as it's about 500 lbs lighter and 14" shorter. So now I have A Crosstrek Sport Wilderness! LOL. No tents for me .. I sleep inside the car .. easy for one .. not so much for two. Have you figured on how much the rooftop tent cost you mileage wise?
Quick question; Are you going to, or currently using ONLY 91 octane in California? or are you using/considering using 87? I'm always curious about this. Especially for the Outback and Legacy Turbo models. Thanks...
Wind noise is noticeable, just like anything mounted to a roof! And I have no doubts that the 4 person iKamper would work on the wilderness, we were debating between the 2 models and opted for the smaller one because it fit our needs just fine
I don't see spending upwards of $5,000 for one of these things. I guess it's sleeping in the back of the OUtback for me with a $50 sleeping bag. What are second-hand campers like these go for?
85 inches! Which is 7’1”. If you have to have a tent that meets that requirement you can look into CVT mount hood single channel. Additionally you could always install a lower profile rack on the car. 6’8” is really low but you just might be able to make it work if you really wanted to
@@bransonropp7380 hey there, trying to figure out where you're getting 85". The skycamp mini with bottom bars clocks in at 13". The wilderness is 66.9" ground to top of rail. Are your crossbars with towers really 5 inches?
I am disappointed in the dealers in California, all that I have talked to are getting greedy and adding in dealer markups of 5-7 K, over MSRP. Additionally, they are mandating that you get clearcoat protection for $600.00. I can't buy from from neighboring states, because they say that they won't sell, unless you have a residency. Our daughter moved to the Midwest, 4 years ago and I can make the purchase there. If anyone knows any California Salespeople that won't resort to this greed plez respond. I won't reward greedy unethical salespeople.
When I was looking I was quoted MSRP at dealers in Roseville and shingle springs… not sure if times have changed but try them! If not, try heughberger In Colorado they move large volume
Thule Evo Raised Bar supports up to 220 lbs dynamic weight, then times 3 on the dynamic weight is your static weight, the stock only supports up to 165lbs, not safe.
