I hardly ever use the side window steel bars to hold up that flap. Mostly cause I’m never in the same place long enough, but also cause it’s a mission. Not worth the cost to change for that though. Nice chilled review BTW 👍
Yeah I don’t even know where the metal poles are for the side windows lol. I just either roll them up or put them down. Would make it nice to have the blinds though. The upgrade might not be worth it to me either but if you were starting without a tent I don’t see a problem with going to the new one as it has all the upgrades and in theory it’s only 20% more $$.
@@OXFOOT hahaha yeah exactly. I must speak to them about zip toggles. Would be great for glow in the dark so I don’t have to turn the torch on every time. Oh yeah. I drilled a hole through both my 1.0 and 2.0 to be able to charge USB inside and for outside down-lights. It’s not as daunting as you think 😁
@@OXFOOT 20% is alot my friend when we are talking about 3K+ tents. 2.0 4 person is on sale for $3100 right now and I might pull the trigger. Minor upgrades on the 3.0 doesn't justify the price difference.
I'm a little late in finding out they made the 3.0 this week and like most I'm sure I immediately thought damn I might have to sale my 2.0 now 😅 but I found that ikamper has a conversion kit for about 500-600 bucks. I'm fosure going to order it to upgrade to the better color and window system and happily live without the hardware upgrades for now.
Yeah the badges were so damn easy since my old ones busted I had no choice but to upgrade to the new ones. The inside part is really cool that they offer that upgrade now. I ended up switching to the ikamper X Cover but switching out the guys to the tent is really cool that you can do that now.
Your review is fine, but unfortunately, the iKamper product is just fair, and the customer support is horrible. My tent leaks at the zippers even in a very light rain. Sadly, the manufacturer has washed their hands of it since I purchased it 25 months ago from a dealer. I hope your viewers have better resutls.
I'll be hopefully picking up a 4runner this fall! I was originally gonna go with an outback, but where I wanna go I'm gonna need to go big 😎 rip my mpgs though 😂 I'll still have my Honda fit 😄
Yeah roof top tents are for sure a lot of money and only if you go at least 10+ times a year. I go quite often so I can logically buy one as I’ll use it enough. There are for sure cheaper ones though no doubt.
We have the 3.0 as our first RTT. We waited months for the 3.0 to drop! We put the upgraded iKamper air mattress and new iKamper sleep system in it on top of the stock mattress. It still closes (but it’s tight).
@@bradleyolson5793 iKamper sell a custom fit set of air mattresses that are made for the 2.0/3.0 SkyCamps. We bought those and put those on top of the stock foam ones. You can fit bedding with the stock foam mattresses. Pillows are a 50/50 depending on how thick and how much they compress. Put them in the center of the mattress right next to where the folding section lands (not under the folding section when closed) for maximum chance of clearance.
@@bradleyolson5793 That’s hard to say. Stock foam mattress compresses as you’d expect foam to compress. If you take the time to properly deflate the air mattress (we use a rechargeable inflator / deflator) to suck it flat and when done properly is about 1.5” tall. The trick IMHO is finding exactly where to place bedding and extra mattresses to allow the folding piece to close to its lowest point and having the extra bedding right next to it when it’s closed. Since it’s all inside when you close it, it’s kind of a best guess and trial and error. Using a rechargeable inflator also makes set up a lot faster if you use the upgraded air mattress as you can fill it so much quicker, at least for us. Again this is all my opinion in our experiences with our gear so hopefully others can also provide experiences.
So the set up I have connects directly to the crossbars from the tent track mounting rails without any ikamper mounting brackets involved. Since the track for mounting on the 2.0 and the 3.0 are the same it should fit no problem. The company is outgear solutions, if you order from them make sure you let them know it’s for an ikamper, they have to include something else I believe.
Great comparison. I have the skycamp 2.0 in rocky black and absolutely love it. Not enough difference for me personally to make the jump to 3.0. I am curious about the updated brushed silver branding though! How much did that cost you?
My previous message seems to have gotten deleted but it’s a tough process to remove all the sticky stuff when you remove the old ones. Use goo gone. It’ll take some time, don’t scrub too hard or you’ll dull the rocky black finish. You can get them from customer service email and I think they were like $34.
@@OXFOOT I actually reached out to ikamper via email and ordering a new 2.0 skin / rainfly bundle that replaces the burgundy trim with red and has pockets under the interior windows. I was quoted $550. Just an fyi
@@skiddism Oh wow, maybe I'll just do that. Thats not bad at all. Certainly better than buying a whole new tent. Got no complains with the shell, just the faded fabric. I wonder if you could just get the new fabric... probably not since the fabric is bigger than the old one I'm sure.
@@OXFOOT I'm pretty sure you can order just the fabric / canvas. I opted to do the fabric and rainfly bundle since my window on the rainfly is pretty oxidized.
@@OXFOOT ya im coming from Adventure riding and this cost more then most the gear i carry lol.. so do they not make racks togo on top, seems most add atleast solar panels.
Hi there, can you pls let me know what type of crossbars you have on the silver 4runner? Our has the factory railing but no crossbar , we need to know what type of crossbars to accommodate the Ikamper 3.0 mini , thank you
Mine is the outgear solutions loprofile crossbars. Gets rid of the factory hardware all together. You will have to lose the shark fin antenna on your 4Runner but it’s by far the lowest crossbar option for the 4Runner.
Thanks for the video! I have a vagabond drifter I may have to part ways with since we had a kid and this seems like the next best thing. Do both versions have interior lighting?
Anybody know if the 3.0 Skycamp canvas will fit the 1.0 Shell? I’ve already confirmed the 2.0 will fit the 1.0. I just like the color of the 3.0 better.
I’m not sure but I’ll comment on here to bump your comment up so if someone knows they’ll see it. I think it won’t because the tent is taller but I don’t know the right answer.
@@OXFOOT I spoke with iKamper the other day and was able to get a confirmation that the 3.0 canvas unfortunately does not fit the 1.0. 😞 I went ahead and ordered the 2.0. I’m not in love with the brown but it will be a welcome replacement for my original 1.0 canvas that is literally falling apart. 👍
I’d look at the roof width of the vehicle and see how it compares. I have an ikamper X-Cover now and it’s much more narrow. Might look better on the Cherokee since I think it’s a more narrow roofline?
I use gear aid zipper lube. I picked it up from REI I believe but you can find it on amazon. I liked it because it had a nice brush to it and it didn’t roll on chunky like a lot of the zipper lubes that were sort of chapstick-like.
I’m not sponsored by them in this video. I just like the tent. I don’t really remember what’s in this video though, did I say that I was biased towards my tent or something?
It doesn’t really hinder me washing my car at the self wash spray car washes. I don’t think I’ve ever gone to a drive through car wash even way before I had roof tents.
I have a gobi roof rack on my 4runner, is it wasy to mount on that rack and does it fit alright? Also is it loud while driving on the highway or fast speeds in general?
@@OXFOOT Decided to try it out. You are right it looks a bit off because of the width but I think with some side mounted accessories it will clean up the look some.
You mentioned the switch to iKamper for space over the GFC. Was there anything else that made you divert from GFC? I’m looking at both 3.0 or GFC, so was just curious.
I just purchased the 3.0, and I am super excited! The 2.0 is on sale for 1k cheaper, but I just bought the upgraded one with the rocky black finish. We have a Roof Nest Sparrow that we have only used once, and it is way too small for the both of us. We will be giving that to our son for his Cross Trek. Hopefully we will get it in before 3 weeks, huge overlanding trip planned on the 18th of October, if not, I guess one more trip in the Roof Nest. I am just excited that I get a King size bed! We have a King at home and we are used to it.
I contacted saatva in hopes of a deal. They sent me a custom matress to fit my front runner roof top .... never heard from them again. But the matress is awesome, and all said and done .... it was free !!
@@OXFOOT I contacted them about a deal or sponsorship. Next thing i knew, custom matress sent ... never was able to contact them again and they haven't tried to contact me. Strange ....
@@OXFOOT not yet , guess i should in some form. Wouldn't know how to address that as far as a review. I'm sure contact was lost along the way of emails. Is that good or bad ? Any suggestions ...
Hey! I just got the low profile rtt cross bars from outgear solutions too. I have a question how did you mount the cross bars to the ikamper bars? Do you have photos or can help me out? 🙏🏼
Did you have to remove the shark fin antenna to use the out gear solution rails? How much weight are those rails rated to carry? I’m torn between these or just getting a prinsu
Yes you have to remove that shark fin. Easy to do but honestly I’d just get a prinsu/uptop rack. I noticed that the outgear rubbed the roof and scraped a bit of paint off the top.
