She doesn't even need to act lol, literally everyone's lil sister. Millie once replied on Vox's tweet saying that She loves vox or something but no one took her seriously and didn't even view Millie as a threat. I'm not sure if this is a good or bad thing but had it been Reimu who tweeted that, there will definitely be drama.
The swedish accent just has something weird with the pronunciation of certain letters. As a finn it does sound somewhat irritating, but then there's the finnish rally english, which is even more divisive. Juu kan basikali spiik it laik tis, itis very hevi an tik aksent
As another swede here, it makes me cringe so horribly, the thing is that ikes swedish swedish accent isnt that bad, I can do a hell of a lot worse when I try :) and when hes soeaking normaly his swedish accent is really really good, barely noticable. I wish to achive this as well but I dont speak near the amount of english I would need to for my accent to be this good. :,)
I think it's pretty typical for us Swedes to not really like the accent. To me it just sounds sorta dull and unpleasant. It's definitely not as sexy as the romance accents (French, Spanish and Italian), and not as amusing as Scottish, German or Slavic ones. It just sounds... flat and mechanical, I guess?

I think Swedish sounds kinda cute though. they sound a bit melodic compared to Danish in my unqualified opinion. tbh Swedish people in general seem to be really good at speaking and understanding English compared to other nationalities.
Millie ain't half wrong actually, tho the "force" she described here is less of an institution/individual giving mandate of "you have to like British accents", is more of colonized society being like "look at those colonizers with those fancy dresses and fancy houses and fancy way of speak" (edit) among other colonial societal forces
Nah, English accents are the best, that's how natives speak, you're expected to adopt the accent if you want to truly be fluent in that language, and that applies to any language, but people are f*cking bozos obsessed with colonialism and always try to be negative on purpose about anything related to Europeans
@@simpking1457 Every English person speaking other than the King's english would like to have a word with ya, especially the Liverpuldians, Mancunians, and Geordies to mention a few
Of the 40 odd different dialects/accents within Britain and the UK, the 'british sound' to people outside of the UK mostly comes from the english/england areas and they have the 'chav' sound your thinking of but if you go to scotland or wales or across to northern ireland (even though not british but still in the UK) and expect your typical 'chewsday innit' type thing, your gonna be disappointed and feel in need for IRL subtitles probably lol
@@hate6crew6death6roll wales doesn’t really have a strong accent, at least not in my opinion, I live in south England (and no I don’t speak like a chav lmao)
i think the chav accent is like the boroughs of London (this is just a theory correct me if im wrong) and the actual accents is more London, maybe even south?
It's not normal to english speakers to do the colonialism joke when they mention the UK? For us spanish speakers it is normal to do the joke on Spain and how they took our gold and silver XD
It is normal but unfortunately vtuber fanbase is full of people who would think that it's a political take and throw a tantrum so streamers are advised to be cautious around such topics (even tho they shouldn't have to be imo)
@@amoosed99 enna does this all the time, i say milie can too, connor whos friend with ironmouse will do british bad coloniser jokes too, and hes british himself
Sounds like how a Swedish national and a Filipina local would get along 150 years ago...when Europeans would come visit Manila during the Spanish colonial era.
@@ziezero As a Filipino, when I first heard Mika talk in English I literally thought "no way she isn't Filipino". Then I realized she was Indonesian. Filipino and Indonesian are sooomewhat different, but a lot of vowels and consonants are basically the same so much so that when we speak English, we literally sound the same. It's crazy.
@@hamingnu6610 I’m filipino myself, that’s why asked bc I dont think we and indonesians sounds the same in english accent. Tagalog and indonesian language itself may have some similarities but i dont think the accent does. But yeah these past few days I’ve noticed there would moments where she does sound like us. Not much tho
@@ziezero I guess that might just be the difference in what we consider similar then. It is true that I also hear the differences, maybe I just perceive them as being more minute or idk haha. I guess it just means that we'd be confused as to whether a person is Indonesian or Filipino for a few seconds, but then will be able to hear the intricacies after listening for a bit longer, which is true to be fair.
@@hamingnu6610 yeah but i think that can only be the case for like a split second bc ive seen a few vids of indonesian and most of them you can tell right away that they’re not filipinos. Like maybe at first by their physical appearance bc that’s where we exactly have a lot of similarities but the moment you hear them speak their accent mapapa “ay kala ko pinoy” that kinda thing (kinda meh if directly translate to eng kaya tag na lang hahah). I think the fact that a huge part of our language being influenced by the spaniards can also be the case why we dont sound that the same plus only us were colonized by the americans next so our english is US while i think indo’s, malay’s and singapore’s are UK (pagoogle na lang hahaha if right) so ayern
as a Filipino myself, hearing myself in an accent sounds so insufferable to me so i understand where Ike's coming from lmao although i think other Filipinos speaking with the accent is either cute or funny. also Millie was right about the colonialism one 🤭 but true enough, other people who've never been exposed to other accents usually find other accents sexy or charming :D
Millie is right, colonialism forced us to believe that things coming from them are better, just like beauty standards, for example, my mother is full Asian, but thinks that Asian women are "ugly", to her white European women are the only pretty ones. Even in my country in general, even if the standards for body are different, for the face, it is very European.
Even in my country we grew up with "American English, British English, or racially unacceptable" kind of English so I'm glad we embrace our own accent recently.
“forced us” what? you can’t force yourself who or what to like, you’re not taking biology for a fool, the younger dating-age people forms the standards for looks because that is what works for them, and the “beauty standards” and companies that capitalize from it follows through, it’s not some shadow lineage-passing-curse brought down upon our people by some high and mighty beings 400 years ago, which ironically makes us look like we cant think for ourselves, or are you so eager to hold onto that victim status to fuel your hate to people who simply born into certain races? petty. are Koreans, Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese etc. “forced” to like virtually the exact or similar beauty standards? also I’m not talking about “White European” look which by the way is not the beauty standards in the Philippines so I urge you people not to believe the insinuation that “European look” is the paragon of beauty here, the beauty standards here reflects easily on social media, medias in general and trends. I don’t remember ever seeing Blonde hair blue eyes pale people being imitated by the general public, it’s more on the “kpop” look as far as I can remember (somewhere around 2004-6)
I mean that is a you thing now. Even Asian's in the west try to keep it that way lol, anyone that says they like how Asians look gets labeled a racist fetishist.
@@f.b.lagent1113 ?? But i don't think op mentioned that european look is the standard in the ph. The comment just said that their mother is asian and eu look is the standard in their country.
If only I could switch my accent on and of like that I have a slight Swedish accent in French, a bit more of a French accent in Swedish, and some kind of mix in English that reminds some people of an Italian accent 🤣 And this is because I have lived the last 16 of my 28 years in France
As a southern-born USA-ian who moved to the Midwest, I use my "southern twang" in uncomfortable situations. People here change from confrontational to REALLY friendly when they hear "Oh I'm sowry y'all, tha's mah fawt."
As a Swede I always end up smiling whenever a swedish streamer/youtuber speaks english with our accent also Norwegians too since its' pretty much the same.
I would legit just watch a video of Millie full on shit talk to a member in flaming Filipino. Words go by so fast that even if you did understand Filipino you don't get what's she's saying LOL
100 % agree with Ike, the swedish-english accent sound TERRIBLE, I have a british accent and my swedish brother wonders why I make my accent sound like that but that's just how I sound when I speak english (It has become natural because I refuse to speak in a bad swedish accent and now the british is just stuck)
1:53 Millie: accents are sexy, man My Irish accent: woh ya mane? Oirish seounds weard. Translation: What do you mean? Irish sounds weird. Don't expect "Top of the mornin' to ya" in ireland. We got different accents in each county. I grew up near the Airport in Dublin so I hear many accents from world-wide.
As a Filipino, Millie's colonialism comment makes a bit sense... UK colonized US while Spain is already present in Mexico and doing trade in the Philippines through Galleon trade.... They US colonized the Philippines after Spain lost the Spanish-American war, meanwhile the presence and authority of Spain in the Philippines is already weak that they could have their independence like Mexico... But no, US bought the Philippines, Puerto Rico and Guam to Spain as part of a treaty.... So when the US came to the Philippines to assert their authority as the new "management", Filipino revolution groups do not like this and they fought the US but defeated and the Philippines become a colony under Commonwealth government of US.... In the Philippine history we called it "Philippine-American War" and was being taught even at grade schools, meanwhile in the US they just called it "Philippine Insurrection" and barely being part of their history classes... The country only gain their independence after the Japanese Occupation during WW2, where Manila the capital city is destroyed, that it is the second most devastated city during WW2 just after Warsaw..... Maybe US do not want to spent their funding to help rebuilt the country and just let go it...
Idk where you were 8 months ago. I just gotta say, "uwu seiso loli" sure is one hell of a description that doesn't apply to her hahah (or Finana, etc).
I'm just waiting for a Malaysian vtuber to appear and go full Uncle Roger. Though in all honesty even the latter's accent is mild compared to some of my actual relatives back in KL.
Heck, Anglocentricism in itself and the way English is so widespread as a language across the globe is a product of colonialism. So it's no wonder that having an accent that isn't British might be seen as less preferable.
scottish accents are lovely, sure there are some that sound a lil rough to understand but they are lovely from the right vocal chords, not gonna find it from a 40 cigs a day smoker taxi driver tho lol
