We call them "biscuits" and they tend to be lighter and moister than scones. It's delicious honestly... Also, most Americans don't have a bag of chips with every meal. Also most private schools aren’t public schools, public schools are specifically schools like Eton, Harrow etc. They’re more selective, tend to have a longer history and are still strongly associated with the ‘upper classes’ compared to private/independent schools. Tea just isn't popular among most populations in the states. We never had tea in my house growing up. My parents would brew coffee all day and drink black coffee well into the evening. My first experience (and most Americans, I'd say) with tea is with iced sweet tea, Arizona sweet tea to be precise. As a kid, I thought only English people drank it hot 😂
