This is the best video of "how to make a dry box" I've seen so far! Thanks for doing such a great job making it very obvious how to do this! you Rock!

I´m almost done building it (just have to add the ptfe tubes). Very very nice design. The 3D printed parts work perfectly and I like that I can adjust the width between the bearings. Thank you for sharing this =).

Instead of silica gel I use those dehumidifier tubs that they sell for keeping your clothes mildew-free. They're very cheap, you can get them at department stores, they last practically forever if you keep them sealed in a container, and come in a variety of sizes. They contain calcium chloride. If space is a problem they also come in the form of pouches with a gelling agent inside.

Simple and effective! I would use a "connected" sensor to get alerts when silica bag needs refreshing. Not an issue if you have one box, but if you are storing more filament away - it makes more sense. Add, 3D printed slots for QR codes so you can scan it to get best print settings per roll

I tried to find something on google to "scan qr codes for print settings" - didn't found anything except how to print qr codes... but how can you scan them to automatically have the settings in your slicer program? Do you have any reference?

Nice video i made one myself the other day, bit of a different design but used a black box so the filament is also protected from UV.

I wish I would have seen this earlier, I just got 4 rubbermaid cases that hold a spool each. Same thing, temp/humidity guage with boden tube exit and it is airtight already and ball-bearings to make it smoother. Oh well, mine will be individual.

A good solution! By the way, don't stretch the flexible EPDM lengthwise while glueing it on with the included glue strip, because it would contract itself otherwise over time to the original length and you will have a gap. Rather push it on to the surface and make sure, that there is no tension in it. It can be compressed lengthwise a little bit, but also not too much or it will fold out and leave a gap this way ;-)

Great tutorial video, just one silly question, so when you change filament, how do you rewind the excess from the printer without opening the lid? Wouldn't it cause tangle if you just push it back in? thanks, good work!!
@Dombi3D
@Dombi3D 3 года назад
I placed them onto a rack system where the dry box is sitting directly over the 3D printer so the extra filament length is not that long. I just push it back. Caused no problem so far. If you place it further you can use longer PTFE tubes and so you have not that much filament need to be pushed back.

How do you push the filament back when you change the filament? Do you open the box? For me it does not work because the filament jumps of the spool when I just push it back through the tube
@Dombi3D
@Dombi3D 3 года назад
I push it back but I place them close to the printers so I no need to push back a lot. If yours are further you can use longer PTFE tubes so you do not need to push back that much.

Do you tighten the nuts? Does that stop the bearings from spinning on the rod because of the washers?
@Dombi3D
@Dombi3D 4 года назад
I do tighten the nuts but just firmly to keep the distance between them. If it would spin on the rod would not cause any problem because the goal of the bearings to spin smoothly, the washers are just for keep the spools on the bearings.

5x800g what I could fit inside a 22L box. From the wider 1kg ones just 4 or 3 fits inside (depends on the spool size). The 65L I use with 4x2kg Spools.
