Best Punk Wood closeup ever! You can see the 100s of tubes that run laterally through it, in this cross section extreme close up.
I Smart Water bottle Solar Ignited this great piece of punk wood and ignited leaves straight off the ground to get the IKEA Stove burning and ready for cooking. I boiled the water from the Smart Water bottle and made some 10 minute steeped coffee. It turned out so rich, robust, and dark too. So Good!
Next I made some toast, brand name Dave's Killer Bread from Walmart, in my little cast iron skillet. It came out all buttery and crisp then a couple of large eggs tender and suculent on top of that... OH HAPPY DAY! You've got to see how well everything turned out. There was only one drawback though... how much heat an IKEA Stove loses while burning. Such a waste of fuel and a little a
ggravating to have to keep reloading the stove. Still though a great... experience, cup of coffee, and breakfast on this gorgeous Fall day!

A good share 👍 .. thanks. Yep, IKEA Stoves don't like wind. When necessary, I use a folding Windscreen with mine. I'm playing around with an internal windscreen made from a suitably-sized Tin Can, top and bottom removed and then halved longitudinally. Suitably placed holes drilled into this screen and by turning the screen inside the Stove (beforehand of course) allow for an adjustment as to how much air gets into the combustion chamber. Early days still .. one drawback currently is getting wind (without accompanying rain) on demand. Charcoal Briquettes also work pretty well .. with a long-burning low-ish heat .. great for Eggs and such .. even better when toasting Marshmellows on my 3rd Floor Balcony 😊. Take care ..

TOASTED MARSHMALLOOOOWS... (hold on a second)... ... Whew, I'm ok now... I've seen an internal windscreen video on RU-vid, makes sense. I'd like to try briquettes some day. Alright I'm going back there again... TOASTED MARSHMALLOOOOWS...

Dave's Killer Bread! Dave's got started here in a Portland, Oregon suburb, Milwaukie (yep, it's spelled "ie" here). Nice drive idea, but definitely not fuel efficient. Maybe a second outside pot could block wind and control the combustion?

Just prior to watching this, I watched a vid on a $50, 8 oz manual coffee press. It still required a pot to boil the water. Simple is sometimes better. About the stove, I use an internal windscreen that also aids in secondary burn of gases (smoke). I took a slightly smaller tin can (25 oz I think), removed top and bottom and added air holes around the bottom. Less fuel and more heat. I also use a top down burn. Works almost as well as my diy wood-gas stoves. Great vid.

Genius! That water bottle trick works well. Who would have thought you can make fire from a water bottle? I've used this method in the Beartooth mountains on a weekend trip. I'm glad to see it again. Also that spoon trick you showed us is pretty dang slick too. The two things you will most likely have on a hiking or camping trip, water bottle and a spoon bam your cooking now. Great possum mentality and smarts plus the power of the sun will go a long way.

Excellent video. I use a wind screen on all of my wood, alcohol and gas stoves. A couple of ways to get most efficient burn out of your from to stoves including the IKEA is to use a swedish torch stack or fill it with sticks vertically all cut to the same height. At least at won't be burning up a lot of wood in the middle especially if you use a simple diy wind screen. Pellets are also top burning. I never been troubled with cross winds making a shore lunch on the Chattahoochee. Cheers

Looks good! That's why I use a French press...such a rich taste. I'm sure your method results in a comparable taste, but maybe a tad stronger. I never pop my yokes on purpose...even in a sandwich, I just deal with the runny goodness. Don't know where I'd find punk wood in Japan, but that was impressive. For awhile I was thinking "this dude just finished talking about photons, but now he's about to burn the crap out of that nice Yeti cup." 😅 So glad it didn't turn out that way!

David, another nicely done ✅ video. I don't recall if you have shown how you made the Ikea stove's pot supports. What material did you use?
@DavidWestBgood2ppl
@DavidWestBgood2ppl 3 года назад
The regular pot supports shown in my Hobo Stove Builds Playlist (probably the 1st or 2nd build on that list) shows a half lap for the 2 pieces to fit together then 4 notched ends for the unit to sit down on the can. I just took a set of those, joined the half laps together, and sat the unit atop the IKEA stove. It worked alright. You can see how I built the pot support for the gallon can and scale it down or just half lap a couple of 1" pieces of sheet metal. There's also a pot support build demo in the Paint Can Hobo Stove Build.

I make cowboy coffee much the same way. My kettle, water, 2 to 3 heaping spoonfuls and boil for ten minutes. Not a full rolling boil or it will boil over. Just enough to bubble . I use a trivett off to the side if usingva camp fire. If using my twig stove just enough to keep the flame hitting the bottom

Salts are electrolytes, they affect the flow of electrical impulses through nerves, if you starve your heart it could be worse than cramp.
