Great usage of the Pirates of the Caribbean:Curse of the Black Pearl back there! This combines my love of planes with Pirates of the Caribbean. The raid on Ploiesti is on my favourite daring raids of WW2 list alongside the Doolittle Raid,Operation Chariot and the Attack of Taranto.
I knew a guy once that had been a nose gunner on the B-24 on the Ploesti runs! He said he could "see his tracer hitting 109's but never saw any go down". For a keyring, he had a piece of German flak that penetrated and "bounced around" in his nose turret. WOW
It actually does contain Romanian aircraft, the IAR 80 with 4 light MGs, the 81a with 4 light MGs + 2 heavy MGs and the 81c with 4 light MGs + 2 cannons
The Liberators you show are the B24 J model, but in Operation Tidal Wave, all of the B24's were "D" models, which did not have the front gun turrets or lower ball turrets!
Although there were navigational & weather issues along with some lack of radio silence discipline (resulting in more loses than expected & more enemy fighter interceptions & more enemy flack), this is from a news article: "The mission, on Sunday, Aug. 1, 1943, was deemed a success, even though 54 of the 177 bombers that took part were lost, and 53 more were heavily damaged. The refineries’ output was greatly curtailed..." Unfortunately, within a few months, most of the damage was repaired & more raids were needed until the Soviets captured them. This video makes it seem as though the raid was basically a total failure.
No, it was thought they would fly under the anticipated heavy flak that was vastly overrated at that time. Instead they ran into a maelstrom of light flak that was far worse. It was also found that at low altitude that navigation was far more difficult and some of the bombers mistakenly flew over known flak concentrations.
yea u wana know how u did all that i dont even know how to be a bomber plane on il2 sturmovik not online and those effects aah i though it somethin to download and u get em but how did u do all that the sound is even different
im not agree with the guy who say your pilots are not well maked ,..........YOUR PILOTS ARE AWESOME AND INCREDIBELY WELL MAKED !!!!! countinue like this :)
Radar is bound to pick up that many aircraft despite their altitude. Even one of those old WWII radars. Also has anybody heard of the story of "Lady be Good"? I bet that would be an interesting story to add to this if you know about it.
