Illinois Cultural History

Here's a little tidbit on some more cultural history that spans in this section of Illinois. The original settlement of Saint Louis was based in this area. It was named after King Louis XIV. Sieur De La Salle was a French explorer who laid the foundation for the settlement.
Before his arrival, there was also Jacques Marquette (pastor) and Fur Trader Louis Joliet. They also explored this region as a way of surveying and getting to know the indigenous people. It's fascinating to know that these rocks surely have their stories. If only they could talk!
