So the next generator i guess would be better strapped to the side of the truck and not moving around, so damage would not happen. It is not the generators fault or the road just poor storage.
OMG ! That’s one tough generator ! Campion should absolutely retrieve that from you, give you a new one & pay royalties to use your video for a commercial !
That’s definitely one beast of a generator! We had some like that happen to ours, but it was more of a user error when we had to make a really sharp turn in Texas and the hitch hit it! 🤦🏼♀️
Gosh if the roads did that to your generator, imagine what it does to your leaf springs, axles, etc. I love that it still works! PSA - fix your roads! Happy travels - Michelle & Brian
What did you expect from Illinois(The Corruption State). They have nearly the highest taxes in the country and some of the worst roads. I was born and raised there and thank goodness moved out permanently 13 years ago.!We will never go back.
Gosh Clay that’s horrible. We have a Predator and a Gen-Y goose ball. We tethered it right under the window with straps and we keep our tonneau closed partially. And we are henceforth avoiding Illinois. I’m so sorry and sympathetic. Some areas in southern Calif are pretty bad. We never open the fridge without extreme caution. And never in flip flops.
We usually keep the generator up close to the cab as well. We put it on the tail end because we were going to be boondocking. The power connection on the rig is on the very back of the rig, so the power cord will not reach with the gen all the way up by the cab. We shot video of the roads from central cali to houston. They are really bad, not as bad as Illinois but too bad for the taxes we all pay on fuel. Thank you for the sympathy.
I've been through Illinois to be honest they truly suck about 75 percent of their roads. I think the street workers throw two shovels of dirt in a hole and decide to let the traffic smoothen it out and then they call it a day and go to the bar's to meet up with the rest of the public officials. Yeah that's how they work.
Bad idea carrying generator in the back corner of the box. You turned too short and your pin box destroyed the generator frame. You own it! At least you’re honest about your reason for the video.
Im sure the pin box hit it, on a turn or two. But it bouncing around and into the side of the pin box caused most of the damage. I would have to do almost 50 degrees of turn to the right, to hit it. It was a straight shot on the interstate. No campground stays in IL.
no we did not. honestly the past 50k miles we never needed to. IL is just that bad. plus it sits a little closer to the Gen-Y than it did when we had the 5th wheel pin box.
SO True......Illinois I 70 was really bad 20 years ago when I was trucking.....hated to even go thru the state....guess that's why they call it Stinkin Lincoln....LOL
The most heavily used truck lanes in the nation go through Illinois, that being said, think of the loads using said interstates and arriving at their destinations without damage. Those roads are terrible, HOWEVER, I can't emphasize enough the importance of securing any load that we carry. If I we're Champion I'd send you a couple of load straps!!!😅
99% of the vehicles are not HDTs and not designed for roads in that level of disrepair. Not to mention with all the taxes collected for roads, it should not be in that shape. Nowhere else in our 50k miles of travel have we had the generator bouncing around. Should I have strapped it, yes. But all other 48 states roads did not require it. Thanks for watching, and I would love to have a couple champion straps.
@@OurRoadLessTraveled I agree, Illinois sucks and I recommend that travelers avoid the Interstate system wherever possible., especially in Illinois and Indiana. Truck lanes are responsible for 99% of the wear.
Would you say it’s a “champ”? I’ll see myself out. That generator looks awfully like the one you con’d me into helping you pickup from the FedEx depot that day many years ago when we left work early just cause we could.
Wow….its time for RV’ers to start calling out states that have terrible interstates and roads. I’ll say I-40 through AZ and NM sucks……dodged pot holes and their crappy repairs. Dish CA all you want, but I-5 is nice and it’s good up into OR. I hear it’s good into WA.
it was tongue in cheek. second in over 50k miles we have never had an issue. it only became an issue when we went through IL for the first time. You are correct though, it should have been strapped.
No one will tell you a Champion is better than a Honda, no one! You must have heard the generator banging around in the truck bed but did nothing. The generator is still in working order. It looks like shit because the covers are all banged up. Fling the covers off and use it naked. Free generator? You already did the BJ, now you are asking Champion to pay you? Why, because you still have a working generator? You want Champion to display a generator bashed up out of neglect and send you a new one? If they did Champion would open themselves up to all kinds of claims.
First, I never said it was better than any other generator. I said I would put it up against any generator. Second, in a 3500 dually at 65 mph, you really can't hear anything. Not to mention I'm 95% deaf in both ears. THe free generator was tongue in cheek, dont take things so literal. Lastly, its not just the cover, the frame is bent. Thanks for the comment though, its always nice to hear the perspective of people.
Yep, its the unseen cost of states not taking care of their roads. imagine what it does to the suspension of a 10 year old car that a single mom working 2 jobs has to pay for.
