Thanks John for teaching an old dog a new trick. That hair dryer over the watered down acrylic stain method is gold. Thank you and as always, Outstanding work!
Hi John. Sorry for commenting on an old post but I’ve been looking through all your past videos for help with painting my PG Falcon and wondered if you used the same method as you did here for applying the rectangles to the falcon by masking them?
Hi John. Getting high res reference images is difficult and the books are never in stock. Can you suggest any good links for x wing please? Truly amazing work.
When you use a sponge for dabbing, make sure you turn and/or rotate the sponge a bit after every dab to avoid getting visibly repeating stamp patterns. At 5:48 you can clearly see the exact same pattern repeating on the tape, giving it the "photoshop clone stamp" effect. Of course it will be barely visible after you remove the tape as it is only on a very narrow strip but when using this technique on any larger areas there's a real risk of visibly repeating patterns, especially on larger models.
What brand of thinner do you use with the Archive X paints? Have you ever used another brand besides the official one? If so, what other ones worked best?
Hi John, was just recommended your channel by RU-vid and subscribed immediately. Always love seeing Stars Wars models being painted. I bought a Captain Cardboard X-Wing from Scott Alexander more than 20 years ago and sadly it remains in the box. (I even have a pyro version.) But videos like yours always give me hope that one day I'll get it started. Archive X paints were known to me but your videos have led to an X set of 15 paints winging their way to me soon. Acrylics only I'm afraid as all the enamels seem to be sold out -- and no indication of when they might become available. I'll be watching out for your tips! Cheers
Thank you so much! I really appreciate the comment and kind words. Get cracking on the CC X Wing and have fun! If you ever want to part with the pyro 🧨 let me know! Thanks again
@@johnsimmonsscalemodelling5270 On a side note, I saw the Chronicles book a few years ago but for some reason I did not fully realise that it was a new edition with many new photos. To cut a long story short I just bought one from Amazon Japan and it cost me a pretty penny! Anyway, it's coming my way! As for my Czerny pyro, I'll keep you in mind if I ever want to pass it along. Though I think I will just be feeding your habit judging by how many kits you already have! haha. Cheers
Great information, great content, but thumbs down for volume because I have to turn it up so high to hear you that when the next video starts (at normal levels) it literally distorts and blows my speakers out.
