Wow from even the introduction you sure are tense screaming you’re angry about something please elaborate he rented a U-Haul from you and he went on about his business and left his truck with you to be repaired why are you so bitter
Doesn't trust you? You have the Camaro and I'm in the UK, there's a certain degree of trust there, all 6000miles of it 🙂That's a sign of how trust worthy you are. Some people huh!
Pete this just gave me flashbacks. I had a repairshop 40 years ago and it was the same then. The one I really remember was the woman who came into the shop, her car had died and she begged me to fix it that day... single mom, sick kid, no way to get the kid to Dr's appointments, etc... Brought the car in pulled out the transmission, it had a cracked valve body. Replaced the valve body, adjusted the bands and put it all back together... waited after closing 2 hours for her to come get it. Shows up with a boyfriend claiming that I was ripping her off. An argument ensued, he threatened to 'kick my ass', etc. I gave them two choices, pay the bill and leave, or I'd put the broken parts back in the transmission and they could tow it somewhere else... I'm trying to say, you did the right thing. It was unlikely to get better after the "I don't know you" ...
Dude is angry about nothing. It sounds like pete and the ol lady been tippin a few back. Just tell the insurance company you're not doing the job and Im charging storage. They will have it picked up.
I have done paint and body for over thirty years, I had a owner do the same thing, when it came time to pay up he asked if I would take payments because he spent it all. When insurance companies put large amounts of cash in people’s hands its like they hit the lottery.
he didnt say he asked to pay in payments after the job was complete he was paying him as the job is done because it takes 3 weeks to get parts , he just worded it funny
I use to do claims recovery for the courts getting people money for their damaged homes. Many of them take the cash and go on a vacation instead of fixing their home, then skip out on a trashed house, leaving it to the bank.
If a customer gives you an uneasy feeling before you do the job, they will be trouble for sure. Every business has its problems. I’ve been doing mine since 1973, but every time I have to prove I know what I am doing. Very Good Video - Pete!
He said he doesnt trust you.... Yet he wants you to help him commit insurance fraud by declaring damage to parts not on the truck. You did the right thing Pete, I hope his adjuster sees this video.
Ya know Pete, you try to come off as a tough guy, but your really such an honest fellow that IF the truck owner had watched any of your videos like he said there should have been no question that you would do the job beyond expectations. I've watched for years, and heard you b**** and complain but you NEVER short change a repair and always do the right , moral and correct thin going beyond what was expected. You are doing the right thing by not doing this truck. Thanks for showing us another great life story. You and Minnie are the best!
That’s what pissed me off. He said he binged watched my videos for a whole night then came back and stayed I DONT EVEN KNOW YOU! That was the sign to say GET OUT 😡😡
@@myfriendpete That clown is also going to wind up with a lower quality repair. And sure enough the next shop will get fisted in the ass for the deductible.
Definitely you did the right thing Pete !! Im my business i walk away no problem if i feel like a customer is lying or tryning to cheat me.. It truly is scam OR rip off everyone society today. Im sick of it!!! I also do not play by those rules Honesty and hard work pay off. GOD BLESS YOU AND MINI BOTH. THANKS FOR THE GREAT VIDEOS!!
At first I thought you were over reacting but the more I heard the angrier I was getting. I'd have hooked up to it and dragged it out of my shop. You absolutely did the right thing
hey pete i had customer i fixed car and he left it my shop for a fkn months2 after he paid ,and it was in the way . he beat me up on price, cried about paint not being barret fkn jackson quality ,wanted fixed before other customers. i took that punks car and drug it across the street from my shop .then a couple of days later i called the law and they came and impounded it for abandon vehicle .i told him i guess someone tried to steal it .1100 to get it out .lolll
Pete, you're old school. Your word is your bond and your handshake is your contract. It isn't like that anymore. It's a clown world now. Oh, glad your knees are better though.
Funny how we have the "Better Business Bureau" to protect the customer from business Scam.... but we don't have a "Better Customer Bureau" to protect us small business' from customer Scam. "Did you fix the brakes on my POS with frontend damage as well?"...... that's a red flag right there. Yeah Pete & Minnie.... you dodged a bullet with this Dodge. Tell him to come and get his POS and take it to a Corp Collision Repair Shop and be done with it. If this little pup wants to hide in sheep's clothing, throw him to the wolves of Corp America to teach him that the Sheep Dog in that Flock is there to protect the Flock.
That, my Friend Pete, was classic! You probably couldn’t do that 40 years ago when you were starting out in the business. Now it’s your turn and you’ve earned it. Hats off to you and Minnie ! I do the same shit in the construction business I’m in. I too have been in business 40 plus years and am at the top of my game. I’ll shut down the customer trying to nikle&dime me to the dirt . I don’t need them as much as they need me! Thanks Pete, I’ve painted a few bikes and several trucks by attending your body shop classes.
rofl welcome to my world full time collision shop i had a customer 3 weeks ago just like that took 2 seconds to tell him to come get his truck off the property. in two days i start charging storage he was out of state as well. life is too short to put up with bs.
The insurance company has to pay inside or outside storage fees from the date that you received the vehicle on you lot, and teardown time. Usually a minimum of 3 hours at whatever your labor rate is.
That why I'm glad I'm semi retired and only do restorations and hot rods for only a select few, I was in business 51 years and the last few years people have become horrible
Damn it it Pete, you need to be paid for taking his truck apart and putting anything back on. I took money for all materials,I never jacked up any prices on any paint or sandpaper.I also asked for 20% of estimate money upfront,if the customer was accommodating and nice to me I would then workup 50% labore and then ask to be paid and the get 25% ahead before iasked again, but I made sure I was fully paid before I would paint the car. If the customer didn't cause any problems and listened to me I would usually only charge him half price for cutting and buffing the car.
I have 31 years in business. When I have a customer act funny at an estimate… i don’t work for them. I start smelling that they are difficult or shiesty. I tell them “you know what I’m sorry but I can’t do your job.” I agree with you. The only thing I disagree with is you allowing it to touch your emotions. I’d say your lucky you found out about this (male) notice I didn’t say “man” , early on. What spoke to me was when I’m looking at the truck’s wheels and I see 1500 series wheels on a diesel…🤔. Then I see the emblem, wow a 1500 series diesel. That was when I knew that truck owner was a definite “b” word . That’s a truck I’d buy Wifey… or my daughter.. that’s not a truck a guy should own. A diesel with 1/2 ton suspension and brakes ? Wtf ? Why ? That really tells my so much about the guy how he’d buy a 1500 diesel. Some people you can’t help. As soon as I heard that check was going to him. I’d have called him and said , “good morning, yea… send someone for your truck.” I’m not interested in the job and you middlemaning the money” . Then “click” …. Don’t let them in your head , it’s hard but try not to.
I'm surprised that junk diesel hasn't blown up yet my nephew had one and before he got it it had 2 engine's previously installed under warranty and when traded it off it was burning coolant long story short the truck isn't worth the money it cost to repair the damage
If someone thinks this man is unhinged, you're right, he is. But, it's completely justified. I have been going through the exact same thing for decades
Everybody wants a FREE handout! Can't trust anyone anymore Pete. Too many people, that don't care about anyone else except themselves and it's getting worst! By the end of this decade there won't be any car repair shops like yours left. They'll all be fed up with this crap!
Saving deductable is stealing. You hate that always did. I love you for THAT. I wish you were here close. I just overlook the cussing and screaming. That's your TV voice. I learned so much from you, THANK YOU SIR. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK.. I BUILT MY CAR LIKE YOU SAID. I PAID AS I WENT. GAVE THEM 300 BUCKS TO START. YOU ARE SMART BROTHER. RIGHT IS RIGHT, HANDSHAKE IS A DEAL. GETTING EXTRA IS CRAZY. NEAL
Previous body shop here did shit work. They would quote 6k and then make deals with owner. Bondo quarter and used bumper and then charge 3k(probably 1500 too much)and give balance to customer. People couldn't complain of his work. Well eventually he did a USCG guys rig. He refused work. Second time refused and then ended up shutting down shop.
I’ve tried to help people out on their deductible before but there’s only so much you can do to help people Pete. When they don’t let the insurance check come to you that’s a big red flag 🚩. I don’t blame you at all for telling him to come get it.
Good for you telling him to fuk off!!!!! I do body and paint myself and I'm tired of dealing with idiots that want everything for nothing. It's getting harder and harder to make money painting cars .... The cost of paint materials is outrageous. Dumb ass people want a $1000 paint job as and I spend around that just on materials. I'm not working for Free either...I feel your pain! Keep up the good work. You are AWESOME!
Man the first shop I ever worked in(and really every one since) was my uncle's shop in a small problem with the same supply issues, and the same SHITTY ASS customers wanting to keep a bunch of their money and let you hack some bullshit together. And that is and has always been a no go for me. The guys with the old hot rods are really the only ones to deal with cause they have the money and typically have an idea of what it takes money and skill wise to actually fix em so they don't try and beat you up on the money.
People always ask why I charge so much for custom paint work, I actually show them the prices of the materials, what I actually walk away with is minuscule compared to the material cost.
I'm not a body and paint guy I only do drivability and belive me I totally understand the frustration ! And another thing he just probably wanna just keep the bread and pay next to nothing for your best labor
Stand by your decision Pete. I don’t “know “ you either but I feel like I’ve known you all my life. Does that make sense ? Anyway I’d have left my car with you in a heartbeat but…you taught me so much I did it myself !
He knows that you do quality work and are honest with people, and he has watched your videos. He's just looking to scam you and has probably scammed others in the past. My gut instinct tells me he actually knew about you and had seen your videos before his truck was wrecked, and when it got wrecked and he realized you were where he would be renting a U-Haul he saw an opportunity to scam someone who is a celebrity of sorts, and views scamming you as a feather in his hat.
Yea it happens but Honestly ive been screwed bad by body shop hacks charging for work they never even fixed and I was left fixing it. They were trying to make $ off me and the deal. Yea.. I have no time or tolerance for bs No more
Seems like you might benefit from some anger management Pete. Those a__holes aren't worth a heart attack. You're an honest man who does honest work .. don't let it kill you .. life's too short.
I do collision work myself, insurance companies have a cap on what we can charge, and depending on the coverage the insurance company and the coveragr they sometimes won't pay for anything but aftermarket,or used, and we wait on parts for days, weeks, months, and we just had a guy just like the idiot you're dealing with who got the check and keeps having Ebay send parts that are wrong, incomplete assemblies,or broken, and we have 8000 dollars Invested and he's complaining,so I feel your pain lol.
subscribed as i should have done a couple years ago. this (you) channel has to be the most real world Ameri"CAN" patriot / hard working / straight up serious business/ No bs / BOSS CONTENT EVER!!!
I've never got a 1099 because my insurance paid me off. Never. Either way, you owe the Man who did the work for you, every cent he told you it would cost.
My Fiend Pete don’t be to nice charge him for how many days th truck was at ur facility thats only square an Fair u already list all th hours in disassembling th dam thing is people are just rotten j. This world my Friend but don’t let that Change who u are that’s what makes guys like us very few God Bless u an Mini 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Had a guy start complaining about the job I was doing when I wasn't even half done. I finished the job and he liked it and tried to have me do more work on his house. I told my boss I would never work on his properties ever again. Find someone else.
Being a small business owner myself....the good part is you get to pick your customers. Some people are way more effort than they are worth. I'd say you did the right thing...Fuck em!
Pete your right I've learned that lesson when I was in business , who to walk away from , people would get mad , but the it has to work both ways,..... people are crazy , unreasonable, I had some real good customers and some I wished I never sold a piece of equipment to....
I hear ya! We run a mom n pop diesel shop....We love the ones who diagnose their own repairs...not matter what you say....they KNOW what the problem is. In fact it is rarely that....we send em to our competitors...let them deal with genius.
Think you did the right thing Pete! There are some real dirt bags out there but you know what when all the little guys like you are gone they will have to go to the big dealers and pay them big bucks up front!
Pete- The Truck owner asyou stated Would never be happy... RUN !! Me also many years in business...always short on product shipped ONLY TO HIM. ( all done by weight, no one ELSE ! RUN !!
Man, Pete I wish you were in my area when I had my Camaro repaired, Guy did not prep the panel correctly and Now it needs Rust repair. I know that Same feeling fixing Cars 49+ years and yep after a while you can read em, as you mentioned the Gut feeling tells you so. You did GOOD for yourself. Send it! Back to BIG SKY Country (Montana)
Damn OG I know exactly how you feel nobody’s a man of the word anymore you try to help somebody out and try to screw you I understand your pain brother
Yeah.. Tough break. I am not sure how things work but this is how it worked with my daughter's vehicle damages. When my daughter got rear ended on her vehicle. The body shop had her vehicle for 1 week until they got the approval of the insurance company. Soon as her insurance company approved it, they order parts that they felt they would need before taring down her vehicle. Soon as they got the first check pay for the repairs, then they started to work on her vehicle. Once the vehicle was done, the insurance gave that body shop the final pay check. So if a person comes up with repairs and deals with insurance, only deal with the insurance, not with the owner of vehicle. The insurance company talks to their insurer client. The insurance company talks to thee body shop. Makes it easier for no misunderstandings. Good luck to you...
I've had issues with a smash repair company before. That's what insurance assessors are for - you make the claim, rhe repairer fixes the car, the assessor inspects the work and if satisfied will authorise the insurance company to pay the repairer. You then get a warranty on the repair work. I'd rather my car fixed properly than try to short change and piss off the repairer.
Sounds like the same drama with my neighbor, he was told by the court to keep his caravans of trucks on the road and continues to trespass. He is pissed because of a concrete obstruction I built to keep 30 ft trailers off our land. The MF even sent me to jail on trumped up charges!
After dealing with this bullshit 40+ years if I get an uneasy feeling of an asshole coming I do the same thing . Sorry I have people who pay with no complaints and don't have time for the bullshit . Well done .
You did the right thing you guys got too much work to do to be messing with people like that. A lot of shops been doing the wrong thing by giving back deductibles that's what's wrong with people like that guy. Godbless you guys y'all work really hard every day.
