Before the explosion Jayce is positioned right next to Viktor meaning Viktor's hexcore limbs could instinctively protect both of them with some sort of shield. I don't think Mel needs to survive because her arc seemed complete with her choosing peace. In my opinion Mel dying would be both thematic and ironic because her death also signifies the death of peace in the region and because of her mother, her death is the cause of the war.
War-fucking-wick is coming. Noxus is coming. It is the final chapter of Piltover/Zaun. This season will finish the storyline that turn Zaun separated from Piltover. Next season of Riot Cinematic Universe with its name tba will happens in Noxus. My bet is that Urgot is the man that killed Mel's brother and Swain will give him on a plate for Mel's mother for her support for him while he takes control of Noxus, making the perfect bridge to Noxus starting on Season 3. After Noxus get well estabilished in the plot, they might do the Invasion of Ionia campaign, instroducing yet another region and characters. Maybe in like Season 4 or Season 5.
