Had a chance to catch up with the former WBC Featherweight Champion Gary Russell Jr (31-2, 18 KO's) as I randomly caught him at the Ian Green-Vaughn Alexander card here in South Florida. He had a lot to say about his time off from Boxing, Gervonta Davis & the business of the sport. It was great talking to Gary, one of the coolest people I met in Boxing in awhile honestly.

Gary Russel is stuck in the pass, on pass performances. You can’t be extremely inactive, and still think your skill set hasn’t diminished. He would need 3-4 tune ups, before fighting Tank.

I truly agree with this statement. In his last fight, although he was injured he looked like he's not the same guy anymore. And with this type of layoff, I'd expect him to maybe squeak by a win vs a C+ level opponent.

Tank stops Gary at this point. He could simply walk him down and go to work. Gary has lost alot of his explosiveness, and Tank's chin is solid. Gary has no shot at this point of winning that fight, he needs to look at much smaller fish. He ruined his career with inactivity, and his moment has passed. He would need 3 dominate outings in 2024 to even be relevant. And we all know that's not happening.
