Image Trace Adobe Illustrator - When Should You Use? 

Use vector tracing when you are going for a certain artistic look. The other good reason to use vector tracing is when you need to accurately reproduce a logo for a client. That's how I've been using it for most of my career. Illustrator's vector tracing tools, plus other tools that work well to tweak after tracing are superb. Illustrator is the best I've used personally.

Yes, it's quite handy. I tend to vectorize by hand because I am pretty picky and find that is the best way to get as close to the original as possible, but in a pinch or on a smaller budget, image trace is handy.

@Muhammad I mean automatic vector tracing tools like in Illustrator or some other vector programs. Not the pen tool.

I recently learned myself to use the image trace option. I used it in order to vectorise simple objects (e.g. a shoe) fast and then, click on the "expand" option from the Object section, ungroup the whole vectorise version of the object and I do some touches on it. Such as deleting specific parts I don't need, changing some parts in the colours I want to use, using the pen tool to manipulate the shape a little, basically what you're just doing in the video. Which means, I do the rest after using image trace to vectorise an object fast however I never used that to create a logo. When I'd create a logo, I'd just do it by hand from scratch by using the pen tool to draw myself.

That's usually how I use it too.

I don't use Inkscape, but you might try eps.

@@CaryHawkins This image is a drawing made by John Krasinski's kids for the "Some Good News" series he did during Covid lockdowns.

Haven't used it on iPad before. Maybe.
