IMCO Triplex Super 6700 lighter, unsure if this is a genuine original in "new" condition or a well made copy but either way it is a good lighter.
Imco was an Austrian lighter manufacturer that primarily made very high quality liquid fuel lighters, sadly they went out of business due to most people wanting butane lighters or quitting smoking.

I believe these are genuine IMCOs. They're just not made in Austria anymore. The Japanese company Windmill bought the company, including their tools and machinery, and uses a company in China to make the new ones. The Chinese-made IMCOs are virtually identical in fit and finish to the Austrian ones, but they have "Come of Vienna Austria" on the base of each 6600 and 6700 lighters, and "From Austria" on the base of the 6800s. The new IMCOs are made of 304 stainless steel (an improvement) so are less magnetic than the Austrian IMCOs.

The loose jingle sound made by the flap piece is normal, even an original IMCO Super did that. It was meant as an improvement over the Junior model which did not have the flap and is simply added to keep debris out of the lighter mechanism housing to help preserve functionality. There are Chinese and Russian knock-offs sold as IMCO, and possibly others. Some don't even open up like a real IMCO and just have the outward appearance of an IMCO, others are just made cheaply and do not have the precise engineering and durability of an original IMCO. While IMCO did make butane lighters, to my knowledge the Triplex lineup of 6600 Junior, 6700 Super, and 6800 Streamline all used petrol/oil/lighter fluid. If you see one of these models claiming to be butane, it is probably a fake. The Japanese company Windmill made (make?) lighters sold as genuine IMCOs following IMCO's closing. It can be confusing because the factory is in China and packaging says "Made In China", but these are made using the actual designs acquired from IMCO and have "come of" engraved on the fuel cap. As far as I can tell, the Windmill company are the only legitimate IMCO-designed lighters currently in production as opposed to reverse engineered cost-cutting reproductions. They are very comparable to original IMCOs in quality (if not better), they just use bad English. The "come of" does help differentiate the current productions from NOS (new old stock) original IMCO productions which said "From Austria", "TM Pend Austria", "Patent Austria", or "Patent Made in Austria" depending on Triplex model and when they were produced in Austria. The "come of" IMCOs are readily available and reasonably priced, and are sold new. Original IMCO productions were nickel plated carbon steel that rusts over time. Original IMCOs were last produced in 2012, so rust-free NOS lighters are available, but usually priced in the hundreds of dollars. Streamline and Junior NOS are much more available than the Super model, but being smaller they hold less fuel. The Restoration Hardware (USA/Canada) company sold restored and/or extremely faithful reproductions (or possibly remaining stock from IMCO) but it looks like they are no longer made. I personally wouldn't buy an IMCO from a seller that does not show an image of the bottom of the fuel cap since that's the best way to check authenticity/quality online. There are sellers that will show one thing and send you another, and there are fakes sold for hundreds of dollars, so you have to be careful when buying.

I bought one of these 6700 from Ebay new old stock from 1994 and it's awesome, it's like they took the Zippo and just made it much better! My new favorite lighter. Absolutely genuine and from 94 and very sweet and lights every time and I love the spare flint storage, Teutonic engineering at it's finest.

I think the "COME OF VIENNA AUSTRIA" on the bottom of the lighter is a sign of a fake. Genuine ones, even for this model, I believe say "TM INC VIENNA AUSTRIA," and the Chinese fakers who own the Imco name rights might be legally unable to write "TM INC" ... Not sure, but I think it's fake.

Great new purchase, how did the premiere go, i missed the live chat as was cooking dinner, i did notice rewatching it that there was not too many on at first, i wonder if it was becuase the premiere chat was up for a day? who knows or maybe it didn't send out another notification 30 mins before it started, or maybe it's just still so new people don't know its a feature yet. Still seems quite random, one of mine only had two commenters for the whole live chat.

MAN?! These things are valuable?! I've had one of these since the early 1980s, bought second-hand. Not a smoker, I stopped using it 'cause, when I got around to actually using it (bushcraft), the fluid had usually evaporated. :-( I need to dig it out, I never sold it...

@thewolfsdenoutdoors7009
@thewolfsdenoutdoors7009 3 года назад
That 6700 you have both is and isn't a genuine IMCO. It isn't because it is not pre shut down. It is a remake by a company that actually bought the IMCO brand. At least that's from what I've been able to gather.
@Beery1962
@Beery1962 Год назад
It's not really a remake. If IMCO had simply moved their factory to China, we probably wouldn't consider it a different company. That's effectively what's happened to IMCO - the brand name was sold to the Japanese company Windmill, and all the tools and machinery used in construction were moved to China, where production now takes place. So it's more like a change of management.

I was wrong. Commented in previous video of yours that IMCO was bought by Japanese Company. Did not happen unfortunately. I think IMCO had to compete against their own clones which probably put them out of business. Lots coming out of Israel and Jordan on Ebay claiming to be originals.
@Weaponsandstuff93
@Weaponsandstuff93 5 лет назад
Yeah it's a shame, some of the clones are made to a good standard but I wish the original IMCO company was still making them.

Open it up....it should have stamped on the inside Inside "Imco PAT". I suspect it won't have. My original one has Imco Triplex, Patent, Austria, Super 6700 on the base.
@Beery1962
@Beery1962 Год назад
The Chinese-made IMCOs all have IMCO.PAT on the flint spring housing slider, just like the old ones did. The Japanese company "Windmill" bought the IMCO patents as well as all the machinery and tools, so, as far as I know, they can legally make all of IMCO's products.

Sad to say that your Imco 6700 is most definitely a Chinese reproduction. The attention to detail is rather impressive. It speaks to the integrity of the original Austrian design. I interpret the crazy changlish phrase on the bottom of the lighter, "Come of Austria" to be an attempt to say that this is true to the original and authentic Austrian design. Sadly, Chinese are rather unscrupulous in regards to their use of words like; authentic, vintage, and genuine. On the other hand, it does seem to function better than I expected. AFAIK all reproductions of Imco lighters are coming from China. Some are better than others. They are making them in a wide variety of materials. So, that is a plus. The concept of a brass Imco 6700 is a sound one; but I don't think Imco ever made one. Imco lighter designs appear to have been made under various names in Austria from the 1950's forward. You might have better luck picking up a vintage "Fox" lighter from the 1960's. These appear to have been mfg in Austria, and have all of the telltale design characteristics of the later Imco lighter design. It's always a risk, as there are clearly some people in the former Eastern Block countries who are mixing and matching vintage Austrian and contemporary Chinese parts to assemble frankenImco's which they pass off as vintage. Call me a fool, but I just purchased two Imco 6700's on Ebay from a seller who claims to be selling NOS that he purchased from a distributor who unearthed them in his warehouse. They will either be authentic, or I will simply be fooled once again. Fingers crossed! The positive aspect of the Chinese Imco clone business is that Chinese wicks and flints for the old Imco's are still in production, and seem to be of useable quality.

The 6700 you have is Cinese because of the Come Of Vienna....horrible English! The Austrian made originals should have engraving on the bottom: "IMCO-TRIPLEX PATENT AUSTRIA SUPER 6700" (1960-1990) o "IMCO-TRIPLEX TM REG. VIENNA AUSTRIA SUPER 6700" (1990-2012)
