Immortal Arrau 

Es como un viejo vampiro poderoso e inmortal....magistral.

i heard him play when i was 11 years old (70 years ago). No one had to tell me to practice the piano after that. It was a transformative event for me.

Arrau was always unsurpassable. I had the good fortune to hear him in Sydney in the 1960s. Of blessed memory.

Arrau! Like Schnabel… an iconic figure to me. The way he rests his fingers on the keyboard makes it look easy. His attitude is all modesty and respect for the music. Understated virtuosity… he belongs to the Nirvana of pianists with Horowitz, Cortot and the likes. Way above the fray!

He played the Brahms first piano concerto in Detroit . He was about 85. I’ll never forget it.

A fantastic name from my childhood, woyld try and stay awake for the BBC R3 (now) concerts in the sixties with mum, treasured memories. Mum gave me the love of music (and books), dad gave me the joy of being in a library weekly and the trust the library staff had for dad let me borrow books that were in the adult section at nine or ten, and his joy if Scottish music. Miss them but with all the joy around - music and books they are within my memory. Thank you for posting
