Thanks for everyone's comments and suggestions. @sailtheseaofcheese. We would have very much liked to include the role of other white blood cells in our animation, but as rmcdaniel423 has pointed out, this really would have required a much longer animation which was not possible at the time. Hopefully we can expand on this animation in the future to include the role of other leukocytes.
@@BD-bditw I've been around miserable/dull people, yet I don't get sick, and I'm generally a pessimistic person too. It's almost as if mood has nothing to do with immunity at all.
@pdxmomazon It's always challenging to find the right balance for the narration with respect to how much scientific information/terminology it should contain. For this project, we really wanted to keep the narration as easy to understand by the lay audience so we chose not to include the names of new white blood cells right at the end of the animation. But you're right, we could have been more specific.
This is a fantastic explanation for non-experts. Is your team working on a similar video for viruses? I think there's an urgent need for good science communication like this in the current coronavirus emergency
A helpful follow-on version to this would show how antibiotics assist the immune processes described in this animation. These WEHI animations are brilliantly executed. Thanks for taking the time and effort to think them through. These will be more important as "personalized medicine" becomes central to consumer health prospects.
When corona virus has invading body. The patrol White blood cells will alert other immune system. And trying to defeat it when corona virus cells has been defeated T-cells will take antigen and turned into Killer T cells , Antibody , Helpers T cells , Memory B cells and beat the shit out of corona virus. Like when they did it to cancer cells.
It's not that simple. I know the immune system has a mechanism to fight against foreign material (the overreaction of which is what causes allergies), but SARS-CoV-2 (colloquially known as The Coronavirus) has a few mechanisms to avoid/evade immune responses. Fighting off viruses isn't as simple as fighting off bacteria either, it's like sniping a mouse vs. sniping an elephant - the latter of which is easier since it's a large target to hit.
It is quite sad to think there are many forgotted heroes such as sir frank macfarlane burnet who have made our life easier and healthier, we give awards to sports stars and such like but it is people like him who should have been rewarded.
Awesome animation. It really helped me understand, but just to clear up, the M-protein (or 'Markers' as I know them) can detach from the bacteria and travel to the lymph node? Why does it detach in the first place? Thanks!
T killer cells are like spec ops and only triggered by t helper cell. Basically when u got covid. Macrophages could also do what helper cells can do sometimes as current technology found out.
Well, it's not as simple as that. Clonal selection and expansion are the only concepts shown in this video. For further understanding of antigen presentation, binding and B-cell activation, you could try searching for information about professional antigen presenting cells or APC such as macrophages, dendritic cells and others, as well as HLA (Human Leukocytary Antigen system), tolerance and MHC (Major Histocompatibility Complex) I and II. Immunology is quite a complex thread to decipher.
@sailtheseaofcheese I think it's all a LOT more complicated than what we hear from any one source we see. I think there are multiple pathways of immune response going on at once, and some cells are capable of different activities. I suspect the "floating hairs" are just antigen proteins that are floating around. Remember an antigen could be ANY bit-o-microbe that is classified as 'non-self'. Also, the varied actions of T-cells would require a much longer video.
I think video contains the error. The dendritic cells or even macrophages are bringing the samples of ripped emenies to the node, then body start to train the virgin B-cells, quoter survives. The chain reaction continue until enemy is dead.
11 years later and in isolation due to the covid-19 pandemic, college biology teachers are still referencing this video for immune systems and response
IT's all a big hoax from the goverment they are controlling our minds with all this gossip to weaken our immune systems making US vulnerable for infectuous deseases!!..don't loose faith 🙏
