The Human Rights Commission should be helping victims of identity theft, advocating for their rights, fighting for these victims who have had their basic human rights striped from them.

My son's identity was sold when he turned 18. We had to fight to get it back and it was costly. It's not a joke this identity theft It's real. The South African police must dedicate a unit to deal with this matter ASAP.

I feel sick for these people who are stealing people’s IDs. Home affairs minister has a big role to play because without a home affairs official nobody would steal another person’s identity. I feel bad for people who have found themselves in this position.

Chilima's father when interviewed said he first came to south Africa in 2010 during soccer world cup. Chidima was born in 2001. Does it make any sense? The father said she met chidima's mother in UK, and it was the first time visiting South Africa in 2010 on a visitor visa and in 2010 they had no children. To make the story short....Chidima was born in Mozambique and came to south Africa when she was 13 years old. The birth certificate was made for her by the corrupt home affairs department. The South African woman who suffered identity theft by these people must be compensated millions of rands and the fraudsters mustn't be rewarded with a South African citizenship. Chidima's husband, a Nigerian national is the biggest pimp and drug dealer. He is untouchable because he has the cape town police in his pockets

I was married without my consent and with no knowledge of my husband or the marriage. Lucky for me , my proof was that I was out of the country when the so called marriage took place. I can only imagine if I was in the country, no one would believe me.

In my case a Nigerian living in Durban called Patric had bought decoders in my name. I reported a case of fraud and had those decoders closed. Only after that could l get a decoder for myself. I went to that address ...the Nigerian had run away....house empty.

What about people from neighbouuring countries who are collecting sassa grant in SA. How did they get SA n IDs.

A special unit is needed for all this and an intense audit process must be started (at Home Affairs, SASSA and any other department/s involved), with new staff members, not the old officials who have been part of this saga and it needs to start from 1994. All people who were/are affected by identity theft need to be prioritized and all those officials who were involved, dealt with. Another department that needs an intense audit is the Master's Office.

ID theft can become a living nightmare even just someone using your ID number to open accounts in your name. I had the same 3 years ago, the person/persons were on a rampage applying for hundreds of thousands of rands in credit using my name. I had sleepless nights throughout the ordeal

Mina happened around the same time 😢I lost my ID did the affidavit went to Home Affairs and my ID came back with a different surname 😢the Police Officer who was assisting me at the police station said I knew about this and I'm upset because my parents have found out 😔 it's been years Home Affairs Alberton where the marriage took place where so rude but where able to give us the marriage registration slip when we got a hold of the actual lady who did this she was arrested and released after a day claiming we didn't have enough evidence for her to be arrested 😭 I couldn't renew my daughter's sassa grant I had to close all my educational policies that I took out for my kids accounts were opened im tired then Home Affairs sent me an apology letter and honestly its nor enough for me i have kids and have to carry that letter every time i go to the bank and everywhere else

The other one worked using a south african ID, unfortunately, he fell sick went to the country of his origin, and passed-on. They buried him using his Passport, came back with a hand written death certificate , however, HR asked for the computerized certificate, they couldn't produce it. Then the investigation begun, the official ID owner is alive. The money from Provident is locked and unable to pay either of the two.

It is a serious crime and a department should be set up to assist victims. Few understand the Popia Act and know how to fight against companies that are guilty of dustributing your personal details. These companies should be brought to book. Not happening . We need to educate the public of the seriousness of this crime and jail the perpetrators and make an example of this by exposing who they are and the effect it has in the victims life. The public needs to report how this affected them to the media. We need to get these stories aured. Thank you.

This happens when you are still looking for a job, when you go to these Nigerian internet cafes to submit CVs and print your personal private legal documents. That information remains there and is later retrieved and salvaged and used or sold obviously to foreigners!!

I married citizen lady paid every lobola requested the family has met together. My wife and I we have 2 boys together, I've been going to home affairs to register my married, they turning me away with my citizen wife that we customary married. I'm also one person struggled with sassa disability grant. I applied for disability grant the sassa here in tshwane they said I can't get grant someone in orange farm is receiving disability grant via thyme bank I don't believe I was rejected firstly for srd grant before I applied for disability grant funny all of sudden they approve grant for someone with an ID no so they said it means me I committed fraud I don't know how
