As a girl who started with CK 3 to scratch that random “Eastern to fully restored Roman Empire” that never went away, other Paradox titles frankly intimidated me when I checked them out but after a few dozen hours in Imperator it seems me at least to be a gentle curve up in difficulty and but I love it more because it’s set in the Classical Era

@@KonglomeratYT Not yet, and i dont think there is one. But as a small tribe to become great power empire i cannot do this in 300 years. Now i am in the year 1120 or so. Like 400 or more years later than vanilla. And now there are 5 great powers, Egypt, Rome, India, Persia and my Suebian Empire with 2000 cohorts. About 90% of map is part of a great power, really endgame.

Something you forgot about trade, even though its a minor one eventually too marginal to talk about but there is a diplomatic aspect of trade with a specific subject. There is a opinion bonus. So if you need some extra diplomatic opinion with some other nation, you should have at least 1 trade route agreement with them.

I started playing this 3 days ago and couldn't put it down. Your video series was my refresher before starting it. This video really provides additional help. However: I am still left in the dark in terms of what legions are good for. They're expensive, they're smaller than levies, they reduce your levies.... So in what particular situation is it beneficial? What should be a good rule of thumb in terms of income before you consider moving over? The video correctly cautions the player about moving into it too quickly. So far in my game as Rome, I made that mistake, then moved back. I've been able to win every war with levies. So why do I even need legions?
@KonglomeratYT

I suggest watching my military guide (it's in the playlist in the description). I go over it in more depth. These tips are a shorter version of what I say in a lot of my guides. In short though, you don't NEED legions. Legions are just a way to take manpower of levies, and the money of mercenaries, and put it into something that you can modify/customize/train/pre-position. It's completely valid to not use them, but I talk more about the advantages of everything in that military guide.

Later research gives bonuses to heavy infantry. Can train legions for experience which reduces losses. Good for road building. Legions are still a late game luxury though.

-For large powers it lets you fight small/medium size wars without taking war exhaustion and levy maluses. Same with barbarians Troop become elite through legion honors You determine the exact unit composition You can set any character as a commander. Make use of those random 12+ mil score character that enter the kingdom but are unsuitable as governors. IMO not worth it until you are at a particular place in the geopolitical balance of your region.

Legion units ARE BETTER per se. IF you can afford. Because of the legion starting distinction bonus and trained experience and the potential to even get more and more distinctions. Not really much on fresh legion but you cannot ignore it and at the end you can have legions with multiple distinctions. And the stats you need to have a good levy governeur is x2 compared to legion type government. Because there you only need martial for legions and only finesse for governeurs. A levy governeur would want to have both stats high which is just not easy to get. But there is a workaround when you just switch to high martial characters as governeurs just before war.
@KonglomeratYT
@KonglomeratYT 5 месяцев назад
They can be better under certain circumstances on a 1 to 1 fight, but legions will always be quality > quantity. I've seen newer players rush to get a legion, but now not have enough troops to fight wars, or enough money for mercenaries. This is why I recommended against treating them as being important for newer players. They limit your options due to their price, and require experience to be worth the cost.
@nobedience
@nobedience 5 месяцев назад
@@KonglomeratYT Right. There is kinda linear progression. From full levy to mid game with one legion mixed with levy and late if you have 100k gold and 300+ per month, you can go full legion and training.
@Njordin2010

i mean thats what he said in the video. legions have room for lots of improvement but are basically levies when they start.

Could you release a guide on senate manipulation, and intrigue? I'm playing Massilia and have been stumbling on these mechanics while I fight for my life. Stuff like befriending to change party allegiance, spending personal wealth, and been playing around with the idea of corrupting enemies so I can take them down in a trial.

Overall I would say the game is simpler than ck. It doesn't even play like it if you avoid monarchies. It is technically an EU game, but borrows from vicky 2, ck2, and hoi3 to some extent.

Why would you ever build farms? The ai doesn’t buy food as a trade good. And you don’t really need it as a resource. And provinces outside the capital should have plenty anyway.
@KonglomeratYT
@KonglomeratYT 4 месяца назад
The AI does buy food resources. Both your province AI and foreign AI. You do need food as a resource to make high-population locations viable (in vanilla, there is even an exploit on how to do this with cities on certain resource types). Since food resources are commonly traded it is also a good source of income. However, the non-resource version of food is the most important reason why. As populations grow and land is developed, you will need food, or trade routes to support it. If you automate trade then the the automatic food imports should handle this mostly, but setting up food production is always smart to come before this. It is especially handy when you are stationing legions in provinces, as the presence of soldiers (even temporarily) can ravage the accumulated food supply in a province.
