Our family lost 2nd Lt. Joe Meyer aka "Peachy". He was a flying ace who was lost on a return from a bombing run over Germany in November of 1944. He flew a P-47 Thunderbolt. He was a member of the 389th Fighter Squadron & 366th Fighter Group. He is buried in the American Cemetery in France. This is so nice of you to tour this museum. The planes are interesting but I agree with Mazzy, it is all just too sad. Too many killing machines.
In answer to your question, the one with the helicopter rotor was an autogyro! Was a good visit! The glass walls are an absolute somber reminder!! Thank you for the tour and Happy Holidays to you both!!!
Very interesting place. The history in those planes...........Thank you again for another great tour, and moving me one step closer to planning the first of my 3 'bucket list' trips, (which are: to the U.K., to Sicily, and to the American 'old' west ghost towns on Rt 66). What would make my future trip to the UK totally rule would be to spend a week metal detecting w/ Dan while there.
