Hey Folks! This will show you how to take a custom POI or a previously exported base and drop it into a new world or save game. If you want to know how to do the export, you can check out my export video here (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SvkX9yL9hhw.html). Small Alpha 21 Change: There is an extra layer for where to drop files. The full path will now be: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\7 Days To Die\Data\Prefabs\POIs Alternatively, you can drop files in your local prefabs folder: %appdata%\7DaysToDie\LocalPrefabs Let me know if you have any questions in the comments! I'm a little late to the party but is there a way to have a prefab spawn in a randomly generated world without having to spawn it in? For example, can the prefab files be added to the folder with the vanilla poi's so my prefab will show up in all the world's I start?

This game has even more potential but this needs to be made easier. If they get workshop support which eventually I hear is planned, it would be nice to just be able to click and download custom POI and easily place randomly into existing worlds or RNG ones. But this process shouldn't be this difficult.. ty for the tutorial tho.

Completely agree. If they lowered the barrier to entry for POI generation, I imagine we would see a lot more community driven POI development.

wow, thanks for the tutorial! I just got a POI we want to test out as a basis for our next horde base and I was expecting that there'd be just a different menu to load prefabs, not that I needed to save it into the world

Very well explained and easy to follow. Thanks so much. I got so cranky that K didnt work anymore in game cause i thought they’d stopped us from being able to import customs to a current map. But here i see theyve made it easier and safer instead.

Yeah - not going to lie, this process could be way easier. Would take minimum effort to have something like a POI manager where you could even hand pick selections, add new POIs, even have a POI validation, etc

I know what you mean. This problem has been in the world editor ever since I first started using it back in alpha 18. Still no fix for it and I doubt they fix for alpha 21 either. If the devs perceived this glitch as a player exploit though they would be Johnny on the spot to fix it then. That's what pi$$es me off about the Fun Pimps. They will bust ass to fix a player exploit like the old wedge tips or the arrow slits but let real issues like this glitch go on for years. They need to focus on the real problems and stop worrying about how people want to play the game.

You can but it's messy and runs the risk of over-writing pieces of your map as it requires wiping a region and replacing it.

I guess after a year you will have learned more things. So it is possible that this falls on deaf ears, although it is possible that some of those who follow you do not know it. When creating a Prefab in the creative, they have a predetermined rotation (North = 0, East = 1, South = 2, West = 3). By default they have rotation 2, which means that this will be the one that overlaps with the road or path. To avoid entering and leaving the creative and the map, it is convenient to activate the option "Show dynamic prefabs". If it still doesn't show you the rotation, the impeller would have to be updated. By the way, for some time the command "CR" generates errors on the map when executed within a game. This has been happening since the Alpha 20 and continues today.

Really helpfull video. Did it like this, but if I put in "cr" nothing happens in my world... I am at the coordinates, I loaded and controlled twice in world editor to make sure it is rotated correctly... If I start a new game my POI is there, but in an already existing savegame its not popping up...

For an existing world you might have to go and delete the region files - I’ve had to do that for server situations. That is a long explanation.

If I wanted to start a new game after editing the world and adding all the poi's I wanted. How do I make it so my character starts where they would normally start? BTW This video is so perfect to explain my other questions. TY!!

In your windows search bar, copy/paste the following '%appdata%\7DaystoDie\GeneratedWorlds' This will bring you to the folder with all the worlds you've created/imported. Pick the world you want to modify and go into it. There will be a spawnpoints.xml file there. Inside that you will see a number of lines that look like this: If you want to force a single spawnpoint, delete all but one and then modify the coordinates (E/-W, elevation, N/-S) Hope that helps!

@@WaywardEko I ended up putting a marker on the map where I started and moved back to it once all the new PoI’s I wanted were placed. Then when I started the new game the beginning quests were not there so I deleted the two character files in the %appdata% players folder. I was able to relaunch the game and continue the save file with the fresh player data. I’m super excited to play this world. I am also super grateful for individuals such as yourself that explain stuff like this!! ❤️

I think I've run into this once before --- try starting a new game with that world. You don't need to play ... just start a new game and log out. Then go to the world editor and see if it's there.

@@WaywardEko For now I have just copied the default Navezgane world from folder steamapps/common/7 days to die/data/worlds and placed it back into the folder under the name Navezgane 002 so that I have a testversion of Navezgane to use in editor mode. Also do you sometimes get like huge chunks being weird like forming big gaps/craters and the whole thing looking buggy when you try to place a prefab in world editor?

Yes -- it will somewhat correct when you hit apply, but often POIs don't blend well when dropped in.

@@WaywardEko I have been testing it thoroughly today and indeed when the world is saved after adjustments and when I get back into world editor just to see if the changes and prefabs are placed right everithing clicks right in perfectly and the gaps are gone. Thanks for your help!

I had no idea what the world edit was or the level/prefab editor. But know that I know I can build a cool building in 2x the speed I was building at, I have a cool idea for a starting point on a map. I was thinking of making like a starting house where you start in the bunker under the small farm house. Where the house and attached garage are destroyed and decayed with zombies inside. With two starting quest, a clear area quest and a turn power back on quest. Big idea for someone who doesn't get a lot of screen time lmao 😂😅

1) This would work on a dedicated server ... but there are more steps. I just went through the process of importing my Hydra base into my community server and there are a few more things that have to be done. I'm going to make a video to help out on that in the next couple weeks.

So once you have modified that world file, any time you start a new world using that world, it will be there. So if you are modifying the world before you start, you don't have the last step of going into the world and reloading the chunk.

It is a little trickier on a rented server -- we will see how much text YT allows in a post... One note before you start .... this is best done away from active building as ... ehem ... when you delete the region files, it will remove anything that has been built there in game. First some explanations. Here are the files and locations. Server Files Data > Prefabs > POIs Data > Worlds Saves > World Name > Save Name Saves > World Name > Save Name > Region Local PC Files LocalPrefabs Folder: %appdata%\7DaysToDie\LocalPrefabs Generated Worlds Folder: %appdata%\7DaysToDie\GeneratedWorlds Save Folder: %appdata%\7DaysToDie\Saves\World Name\Save Name Steps Copy the 4-5 POI files of the new POI you want to add to your LocalPrefabs Folder on your PC. Copy the all the files from the server Worlds folder to your Generated Worlds Folder on your PC. Open that world in the World Editor inside of 7DTD. Go to the location that you want to insert the new POI and follow the same steps as I mentioned in the Import Tutorial (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-70z6D_7I5Og.html) to place the POI Save the World At this point I always recommend trying to make a new game using that world to make sure that you see that POI in the map before trying to push it to the server. Next download the whole game save from the server and drop it into your local save folder. This will allow you to bring up the server as a local game. Go to the location where you added the POI to the map as mentioned in the Import Tutorial and use the console (F1) and type 'dm' to put yourself in debug mode, and then type 'cr' to reload the chunk. I've found that I sometimes have to move around until I find the right spot to get the reload to work -- this can be quirky. Once you see your POI down, exit out. Next you will need the region where you are placing the POI. There are two ways to get it: 1 -- To determine the region, ideally you have allocs tools installed - this should give you access to a web map that looks like the attached Web Map below. Make sure you click the region files in the top right and then look for the region. It will be something like r.5.7rg. It is import that you note negative numbers because you want to delete the correct file. 2 -- While you are in the game, type F1 to bring up the console, then 'dm' to put you in debug mode. Hit ESC to get out of the console and then press F7. This will bring up info on the left side of the screen. At the top are a bunch of checkboxes. Click 'Cr' to display chunk info. If you go to the bottom you will see the region info -- I copied a screenshot below for reference. Make a backup of your server now as you will be altering files and want to have a fallback point in case anything goes wrong. Make sure you have stopped your server as you will be deleting a region file and uploading files back to the server. Next you will need to upload all the files. Make sure you select overwrite for all. Upload your POI files to the server POI folder Upload your updated World to the server Worlds folder Upload your Local Save to the server Save folder you originally downloaded from. Use your file manager to go to the region folder and delete the region that you identified from the webmap. (make sure to do this after uploading so you don't delete the file and then re-upload it. Start the Server Enjoy

This video was suggested with a search for adding pois to maps and you continue to impress. I noticed in the latest A21 experimental build they added in more pois to the game. I really don't want to goto navazgane nor have to again reroll a bunch of rwg's to try and get all the pois while having to restart the game after every couple maps cause of the memory bug that they have yet to fix. So I was thinking I could maybe just add the new ones to my current world along with the couple special ones unique to navez. I figure it'd be the same process as you say the only change is where to put the files. I would just have to update to the latest build so I have the poi files to load in. Then I just follow the video and should be good right? I figure the hardest would be the new tunnel however big it is. hope can help

Adding the new Nav tunnel would be rough for sure -- shape is going to be super hard to fit in. In general this process will allow you to add whatever you want!

@@WaywardEko I think I might have some spots that can handle it, unless they have to go into a previous poi spot even if its just a wooded one like you did. Will have to look at it in the editor and play around with it to get to know the tool better before trying slap in that one though. Explained it well so seems pretty simple if tedious needing to load in and save its position a couple times before it takes then reload the chunk in world after. Still should save me alot of time and not needing to remake my world. Keep up the good work. You're helping us make our lil safety boxes abit more fancy.

Heh, go for it. With the new pois think I'm just gonna restart in navez and I'd use it. Maybe a ladder base but dang dogs are a problem with those and don't work well when get to cops and definitely demos if not careful. Maybe afk drop base better fit it? Be great looking whatever you come up with thats for sure. So no pressure eh? =^.~=

Does anybody how to fix the imposter phantom block issue? I created a base in the prefab editor, but I have been hit with the notorious imposter block bug. For me, it renders with the phantom blocks, but for others it does. When I show the imposter in the prefab, it shows the erroneous blocks.

I'd love if A21 had the ability to replace air with another block when using the z selection, that would allow us to make easy skyscrapers from bedrock to height limit...I know with dev tools you can use replacer wrench to replace blocks, but not air. (I'm also refering to normal game mode, not Prefab editor or World editor). 🏰🏭🏬🏗

Hi, I've tried this multiple times and it has never worked. I'm sure I'm missing something..But I'm trying to import into a DEDICATED server, so I'm sure it's a bit different. Any ideas on how to accomplish this? right now during the after importing, and loading the game, and doing CR, nothing happens.

The problem I am facing - other than the POIs reversing like they did for you - is that sometimes I will log back into the World Editor to find original, default POIs raised like 5-6 feet in the air, in addition to the POIs I just added. I think it might have something to do with the region or chunk or maybe one of those HUGE green boxes that spans an entire area if you slap a POI in there? Have you ever run into anything like that...?

I have seen so many strange bugs, but I don't think I've seen that one. Oh ... is it possible you snagged one of those larger boxes and raised it up on accident? I don't know if that affects the POIs inside or not.

So I do have a question with placing POIs such as you did here. I did that with the old (huge square) Post Office after editing it into a base / horde base combo and then placed it in my Map World... THEN - I made some changes - in the World itself such as adding pavement in front of the base, took out a fence, etc, saved it, exited, came back later, and all those extra changes reverted back to what they were before. The POI was still there though... I remember hearing something about having to delete region files that correspond to where you place your POI - and then resaving to replace that region file with the newly edited one... Am I making sense? Can you touch on this and tell me what I'm doing wrong or not doing or if that region file thingy is correct...? Thanks! Great video - I keep watching it and showing my friends as well trying to do the same things...

I've also had issues editing the world map around a POI, so you aren't alone in that challenge. If you are placing a poi into an existing world, you will have to go in and delete region files to get the game to re-read that POI fresh and write it into the region file. You can use allocs tools to find the region.

when you go to the world editor you hae all the current saves but why if i go there i only have the world but not the current saves to edit? i need to move them in a different folder to see them or what? when i go to world editor i just see nevezgane and the pregen but not the game i want to edit

Correct ... so think of it this way ... the world is the baseline and can be reused. So you could make 5 saves with the same world. Once you update that world, if you want to manifest that change in your save game, you have to go into that region/chunk and execute a chunk reset there (CR).

I am having trouble - i have followed your video but when i go back into my game and press F! then CR to reload chunk, nothing is happening, the old place it still there and doesnt load in the new place. does the existing building and ground need to be cleared first in normal gameplay?

Nothing more needs done in terms of clearing the ground ... if you go back into the word editor, can you confirm that it is there? I should also ask ... are you doing this on a local game or a server?

The poi is not one i have made but rather one of the game ones that i have altered and saved with a different name in the prefab editor. I started a vanilla navgame world and want to use a base i built in another navgame game... the world has already been created and played... how do i put that base from my other mao into the already started map??? I was able to place it in a new map... But i don't want to start a new game everytime i want to use that base on another map... lol

Assuming you are playing a solo game. If so all you need to do after modify the map is to do a chunk reset at the exact location of where you placed the base in that world. F1 to open console and then type CR.

Yes it would. There is a block updater script that you would need to run after you export it if you have weird blue ? blocks.

Any chance that you are inside the bounding box of the POI you are placing? I believe the will prevent you from hitting apply. Otherwise I would try to move the the POI back and forward one space and then try. Occasionally the world editor is just finicky.

@@WaywardEko Yes I did figure it out eventually, thank you :) Unfortunately i've ran into a new issue. No matter how much i repeat the steps, another Poi simply refuses to save into the world as the other one did. Its the exact same one, no changes.

I have some to ask if u dont mind survivor! First jsut info i play and 2 of me friend are join in me we play PC and specificly on steam. If i do this like you vids how to export and then place in word. Then: Me firends too need to do this hole process or when i finis i jsut go cr and done? Also if i place this in our word (Standard Nevezagame) In a random spot not in any other POI-s place its going to spawn again if i start a new world to play? And if i place some objects what are lootable like coffe maker or boxes etc etc what you can search or like cement bags and log piles if i break it or loot this items its give me loot andresources? Or its just break and done ? I Hope me weak english understandable enought :)

I assume you will be hosting the game from your PC and your friends will connect directly. This means that they will download the map from your PC. So only you should have to do this. The best way is to add the POI before they download the map and before you create your first game. You will want to modify the basic Navesgane map. You can either replace an existing POI or place the POI in a new location - both should work. For lootable items, there are 'helper' type items that you will want to use when making your POI - those will have random loot associated with the type of helper item. Example would be a cooler - which would have food and beverages. These types will respawn loot based on your timer settings For cement and log piles ... those are one and done unless you reset the POI through questing.

And i only want to place poi-s or prefabs what affect only that map we play on. Dont want to mess with the world generation sysdtem throught the files you know. That way its gonna work?

Very helpful. Just one question. I am currently on day 126 of a game that my brother and I have been playing on our dedicated server for a while now. My goal is to add the factory_lg_02 poi (because it didn't spawn into this custom map) and I don't want to screw up our game. I assume that I will have to copy the world folder from the server to my workstation so that I can edit it, and then copy the edited copy back to the server afterwards. I will backup my SAVES and my original world file. Are there any more steps?

Server Files Data > Prefabs > POIs Data > Worlds Saves > World Name > Save Name Saves > World Name > Save Name > Region Local PC Files LocalPrefabs Folder: %appdata%\7DaysToDie\LocalPrefabs Generated Worlds Folder: %appdata%\7DaysToDie\GeneratedWorlds Save Folder: %appdata%\7DaysToDie\Saves\World Name\Save Name Steps Copy the 4-5 POI files of the new POI you want to add to your LocalPrefabs Folder on your PC. Copy the all the files from the server Worlds folder to your Generated Worlds Folder on your PC. Open that world in the World Editor inside of 7DTD. Go to the location that you want to insert the new POI and follow the same steps as I mentioned in the Import Tutorial (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-70z6D_7I5Og.html) to place the POI Save the World At this point I always recommend trying to make a new game using that world to make sure that you see that POI in the map before trying to push it to the server. Next download the whole game save from the server and drop it into your local save folder. This will allow you to bring up the server as a local game. Go to the location where you added the POI to the map as mentioned in the Import Tutorial and use the console (F1) and type 'dm' to put yourself in debug mode, and then type 'cr' to reload the chunk. I've found that I sometimes have to move around until I find the right spot to get the reload to work -- this can be quirky. Once you see your POI down, exit out. Next you will need the region where you are placing the POI. There are two ways to get it: 1 -- To determine the region, ideally you have allocs tools installed - this should give you access to a web map that looks like the attached Web Map below. Make sure you click the region files in the top right and then look for the region. It will be something like r.5.7rg. It is import that you note negative numbers because you want to delete the correct file. 2 -- While you are in the game, type F1 to bring up the console, then 'dm' to put you in debug mode. Hit ESC to get out of the console and then press F7. This will bring up info on the left side of the screen. At the top are a bunch of checkboxes. Click 'Cr' to display chunk info. If you go to the bottom you will see the region info -- I copied a screenshot below for reference. Make a backup of your server now as you will be altering files and want to have a fallback point in case anything goes wrong. Make sure you have stopped your server as you will be deleting a region file and uploading files back to the server. Next you will need to upload all the files. Make sure you select overwrite for all. Upload your POI files to the server POI folder Upload your updated World to the server Worlds folder Upload your Local Save to the server Save folder you originally downloaded from. Use your file manager to go to the region folder and delete the region that you identified from the webmap. (make sure to do this after uploading so you don't delete the file and then re-upload it. Start the Server

will the chunk reload command also fix a broken poi in a map? In this case "the reward" mission in Darkness Falls? a friend of mine found the well by accident before he had the mission, went in to loot, and now we cant start it the official way after talking to eve.

That's a tricky one -- I don't know how DF has the quests tied to the POI. In vanilla I would say it would be worth a try but I don't know if it would do something to the story questline in DF.

Thank you so much for replying. I used the cr command, and it did'nt work, but the other base I made dissapeared. i must have been in the wrong chunk. oh well... I started a new world (again) and found the poi ( that i saved in the poi folder) in a random place... so confusing lol@@WaywardEko

@@WaywardEko In the prefab editor it came up, and we input it fine. But when going into world edit trying to put it into our world there was no option to place it. We could look it up under the prefab section but the place button is grayed out and we cant place it

There are some XML changes that you can make to make any POI similar to the trader compounds. I haven't played with it but know that it's possible.

hello, your video is excellent, but I have been looking for weeks for a tutorial to implement a 'prefab' with a quest to execute. I know how to create the prefab with the quest, for example kill the zombies and take the bag, but when I implement my 'prefab' on my server the merchant never offers me the quest 'tiers1' Or even better, propose the permanent exclamation point which proposes the quest in front of the 'prefab'

You will need to modify prefab XML. I will recommend you go check out an expert -- Genosis is amazing with prefabs and did an entire series. @@WaywardEko Thanks for the link, but my concern is not creating the prefab with the quest, my concern is that when my prefab is on the server the merchant never offers me the quest. I have already watched dozens of tutorials, but none explain why the merchant does not offer the quest which is nevertheless 'tiers1'. The prefab is on the server, it is in the 'prefabs.xml' list

​ @Laenen Daniel - I think you have to modify the XML associated w/ the prefab. It's one of the 4 files that make up a POI. Looking at some, and I'm just guessing at the tags you need ... but for army barracks 01 I see:

I would love some help. I have followed your steps for this but when I load into the survival world the trees and ground clutter have returned to the location of the POI. The new POI shows up but there are trees inside of buildings now. Any idea on what is going on? I have deleted the region files, tried CR from the terminal but it does not change anything.

I built a horde base in Nazegane and I wanted to move that base to a RWG game I made last night. I followed the video step by step but im having loading issues at "building environment". For some reason after I place it and try to reload it to check the orientation per your instruction my game freezes at building environment. Then I try loading in my actual save and that also freezes at building environment. Do you have any ideas why this is happening?

If that doesn't work, it might be worth it to try and re-export and re-import. Other thing you could do is go straight to creating a new game with that world and see if it is there.

It seems like it does change the terrain where the POI should be (there are asphalt outlines and whatnot) however the POI itself isn't there, but from a certain distance I can see the 'imposter' version of it, but like him, as soon as I get closer to it it starts disappearing ? halp

Go into your search bar and type '%appdata%\7daystodie\saves' Once you are in that folder, look for the name of the map your save in from. Inside of that map folder, you will find individual folders that contain your save game. You can simply copy and paste that entire folder in place and then rename it. I do this all the time to test horde bases.

@@WaywardEko Found it. I made a copy and loaded into the world editor but even though I cleared a field out I don't have the place ability for the POI. It won't even light up for existing POIs. Is there a step I missed? I verified in the editor that it shows the POI and has it there just not letting me place in my world.

hi Eko. i have a problem and i hope you might know of a solution for it. so i'm currently trying to manually add a prefab following your steps. however, each time i save the changes i made and try to re-enter the map through world editor, all the changes i made are gone. i have no idea what i'm doing wrong. i followed every step in the video and it still refuses to work. and i've been trying for hours now XD if it helps, i'm using the UL mod and the POI i'm trying to add to the map is xcostum_Apaxco_(by_Gouki).

The one thing I could think that you are missing is to hit accept -- when you place the POI in the world editor ... there is a final step to lock it in there -- I think it's an ACCEPT button. I would try that and then even click back on it, rotate it, and re-accept its placement. You aren't alone in running into issues like this. UL shouldn't make a difference as it doesn't change any of this functionality.

@@WaywardEko the Apply button? did that, double checked the code for the generated world even. in the code, my modification is there. even when you put the files in a map renderer, it detects that the poi i added exists, and marks the correct location. however the game itself still doesn't want to acknowledge that it exists, and refuses to generate it when i re-enter world editing or start a new game in that world. and somehow, that one poi is the only one that i never get no matter how many new worlds i generate. Edit : apparently there is something weird in my copy of the game. it has an issue with spawning the POI "xcostum_Apaxco_(by_Gouki)" for some reason, even though it exists in the code. found out using the map GNS used for his UL playthrough. went to where that poi is supposed to be and it wasn't there. what's bugging me is that in editor mode, you can spawn and play around with it just fine. so no idea what the source of this could even be

Issue was on my end, I had to teleport to the poi using the poi teleporter, I literally had to be inside of it using "cr" command. I was outside and tried many many times. Didn't work. But it's working now. Thanks Eko!

@@jordanelston8893 Not sure I follow. There are two entities - worlds and POI/prefabs. Can you rephrase your statement without using map? Also are you using the mod launcher? If so it will have the generated worlds in a different location than vanilla.

@@Mad_001 Only works in prefab editor or world editor. One thing to note - if you are in the world editor there are large green areas for zones … if you highlight inside that area but your character is outside that area - commands like J won’t work.
