The Michigan Supreme Court has made a significant change to how you file probate estates beginning January 1 of 2024. Hi ,I'm Darren Findling of The Probate Pro and when you file a new deceased estate by application for informal probate or by petition for probate, you must include two death certificates. This is for the purpose of redacting one with all the protected personal information and then a separate one will be kept in a part of the court that is nonpublic. This is a pretty significant change and it also applies with the filing of a will. There will be a requirement that there are two copies one redacted and one not. This is consistent with the court's attempt to prevent personal information from being part of the public record and being taken by wrongdoers, scam artists, bad actors. So a significant change if you don't file the documents correctly your documents will get rejected.
