Previous Worlds HJ here- The Pokémon are not discarded from KO until all effects of the attack are resolved. Then all KOs occur simultaneously. With devolution or other effects, you resolve the effects of attacks after damage but before checking for KOs. So the damage happens, then the effect (the Tera leaves play, so the stadium applies), then you check for KOs.
7:46 its because when you devo the tera card is removed, then the stadium gets deactivated, then the player can discard, THEN pokemon checkup happens at the very end- knocking out the pokemon that would have damage counters on it

Me neither, stopped for over a year, but once you get your eye in a bit it does start to make sense. Albeit there's more random stuff now, sort of yugioh-y, but it's not as bad as you might at first think
I've recently put my eye on PTCG for the first *real* time, and it is pretty complex. But I'm switching from MTG powered up commander and I'm selling the expensive cards from my collection there. This game feels strong but balanced, where Magic is simply overpowering the standard format for seemingly no reason other than money, and they've BEEN sticking their fingers into Modern and Commander players' formats for a while. Meanwhile the meta decks for standard in PTCG range from $30 at the lowest, which is a tenth of the price of Modern and a quarter of the price of standard in Magic
I have the same situation months ago when I stopped for a year and few months. Play at least 10 matches to know the meta and mechanics of the current format. That way you'll get used to the game. Watching vids about deck testing also helped me a lot.
So I am a Pokemon Professor at the basic rank and I might be wrong here, but ill weigh in on the Are Zero / Devolution situation. From my understanding the way pokemon does its game checks is in a specific order. Pokemon with abilities leaving the field (for whatever reason) have an updated ability check done right then and there to shut off the ability immediately since its out of play now and may need to be immediately resolved, like with Eternatus VMAX. Stadium checks however, are are only done after pokemon attacks/checkups/card effects are fully resolved. As far as I'm aware they dont "interrupt" other effects because they arent leaving the field, the pokemon is. So after any devolution attacks are resolved is when the stadium would look for a Tera pokemon in play and if one was no longer present, then the bench would reduce. I would bet this will be the ruling on it going forward.
There is no difference between checking for when Area Zero deactivates and for when Eternal Zone deactivates. They would be done at the same time in all cases; there is no special check done when either card is removed from play compared to when their conditions stop being met (a Tera Pokémon in play or only Dark Pokémon being in play). Checking Pokémon for KOs is what does not happen immediately. A Pokémon can be in play with more damage than its maximum HP for as long as any effects are being resolved. You check for a KO only after all effects are resolved.
I don't understand why the wellspring interaction works,, you're only sending 2 of the 3 energy back and the crystal doesn't mention cost reduction for effects of attacks,, , , very confused
I agree. I saw this on Reddit a few days ago and got downvoted for saying it doesn’t make any sense. “Doing as much as you can” sounds like a silly excuse. Can I use ultra ball by discarding only 1 card if that’s as much as I can? It just doesn’t work as an excuse
When pokemon tcg was first initially translated to English, we had translation errors. Changing the way one card was played in Japan compared to the way it was played in English. We have hit 25+ years of pokemon and we just can't shake that nostalgic feeling I guess. 🤷♂️
I don't really think there's anything wrong with the English wording of Diancie, even though it's inconsistent with the Japanese wording (which they should strive for). First, the word "attached" kind of ends the debate. Even though Reversal Energy can provide a total of three energy, there's only one Special Energy actually attached to that Pokemon. Second, the wording "Special Energy" only refers to the cards, not the energy provided by a card. An activated Reversal energy says: "This card provides every type of Energy but provides only 3 Energy at a time." Note that it doesn't say "but provides only 3 [Special] Energy at a time." There is no card that provides Special Energy; there are only Special Energy cards.
The word "attached" does not end the debate here. TEF Coalossal's Gatling Tar attack does 40+ damage and reads "This attack does 80 more damage for each {R} Energy attached to this Pokémon." It would do 280 damage with an activated Reversal Energy attached to it.
@@jakegearhart Reversal Energy is counting as the Fire energy, as its supposed to. Its completely different when we talk about a card that is checking for special energy on the opponent, as they said, special energy can be attached and provides other types of energy. Attached Special energy wouldn't be the 2 colourless energy provided by say double turbo, its the one special energy attached providing those energies.
@@redrazor7903 This is false. The original Japanese text is very clear when it is talking about cards or about provided energy. "N枚" is used to refer to N card(s), and "N個" is used to refer to N provided Energy. If you swapped 枚 and 個, the resulting effect of the card would change. Currently, the only cards that calculate a damage amount that involves Special Energy count the cards using 枚 rather than provided Energy, but there is nothing preventing the game designers from using 個 with Special Energy in the future, in which case Energy provided by any Special Energy cards would be counted. The card Enhanced Hammer, for example, does use 個 instead of 枚, so it targets the provided Special Energy (obviously the effect of the card doesn't change because the Energy card gets discarded whenever the provided Energy does, but it's an example of this text being used on cards).
Just played with Terapagos and two bugs happened during the game. 1. While the new crystal Ace Spec was attached to Terapagos in the active for 4 of my turns, on the 5th turn when it became my turn before I drew a card the game "bounced" my grass energy and I couldn't play it for the rest of the game 2. When my same opponent played Xer Mach that makes you discard until you have 3 in your hand it made me discard until I had 2 in my hand. I had over 10 cards in my hand so I don't know what confused the game action. Just a heads up when you guys are playing the game.
This might just be me, but the way I would have read the Diancie card would have resulted in me playing it the intended way. “Special Energy” in my mind means the card because the card is classified as “Special Energy,” but I can 100% see where there’d be confusion.
BRUH I went to a stellar crown prerelease and literally ended up in the situation described with Deluxe Bomb (my pokemon had the deluxe bomb attached). I called the judge over and he ruled in favor of the attacker saying that he should take a prize first and therefore win the game???? so frustrating
Just remember Judges are people too and make mistakes. It happen more in prelease because a) new cards and b) you might get a new judge because prelease are a good low stake touny to start getting some judging exp before running a chall or cup.
Will great tree work on ditto prism star? The wording of ditto makes it appear it would but in the clarification they said you had to have a “known evolution line,” I’m not sure if ditto prism star counts as that.
You reminded me Brandon exists and thought of Gardevoir with buddy catch punishing an unfair stamp, or something you could use in the early game before you start using refinements. Then I realized there's a couple of crazy supporters that help tera Pokemon but there's no good tera psy. You got Dedenne, Slowking and Vespiqueen. That's it. So now all I have is this garbage deck with the electric Mewtwo ex, so you could Chrispin a psychic to it and put a dark energy in ur hand for monki, and maybe Brair for a big ko. Maybe even a 1 1 1 duskull with a 2 count of rare candy? Might as well go nuts when there's no shot it's good
Also the wellspring ruling is just them being lazy. The card reads very clearly that it should NOT work that way. It says 3, not up to three. Then it says if you do. This is just lazy rulings and they don’t make sense e
Question about Area Zero- if I have the stadium in play, have no Tera Pokémon in play and already have a full 5 on the bench, can I play a tera Pokémon as the 6th benched Pokémon from hand? (Which would then open up the rest of the bench for a 7th & 8th)
Does Great Tree count as that pokemon coming into play that turn? Can i use it to go from basic > stage 1, not activate the effect going from stage 1 to stage 2 from deck, and then evolve a stage 2 from my hand?
Its its pronounced like die-on-ci Antonology of the word is diamond (di) and rock ( ishi) in Japanese Translated to english as diancie The an is pronounced like on tho because theres not driect translation that doant change the meaning of the word in Japanese
Did they actually rule that the seek inspiration slowking can use terrakions attack that blocks all damage multiple times in a row? I couldn't find anything about it
Terrakion's attack specifies that it can't be used in back to back turns: During your opponent's next turn, prevent all damage from attacks done to this Pokémon. If 1 of your Pokémon used Cavern Tackle during your last turn, this attack can't be used. Though when it comes to PTCGL, who knows what'll happen.
I can't see why not you aren't using [cavern tackle] you are using [Seek Inspiration] but due to it's effect it becomes [cavern tackle] after the attack had already been declared thus it won't care if you used it the prior turn since it's already being declared and since the effect just stops you from declaring the attack you've effectively bypassed the condition. Hopefully i explained that in a understandable way.
