Rosey one thing you are forgetting about Tatis. He missed the entire ‘22 season. That’s a whole year off, it’s kind of expected for his offensive stats to dip like that. If we see another sub .850 or .900 OPS then maybe we can point at that.

Snell was definitely rusty and had a predetermined pitch count, but he wasn’t getting any favors by a tiny strike zone. A lot of his misses - especially in the first five batters that all worked 3-2 counts - were right in the edge of the strike zone and would have been strikes for many/most umpires. Not making excuses for Snell, just saying that he looked fairly crisp despite the rust.

Success shouldn’t wipe away the Astros scandal. Everyone says this. Correa said it that playoff year it was released. What is egregious about the Astros cheating is not that a bad team cheated and became good. It was that a super team cheated and hurt the integrity of the game. Them being good erases nothing because they were already a good team. It’s like if Warren Buffet committed insider trading. After he got caught he would still produce great returns. That’s not the point.

@lou2056 Clostebolis used to treat ringworm. MLB drug test players at the start and randomly throughout the season. Now, if he took it to heal faster from his wrist injury or to treat ringworm. Only Tatis knows the real answer. But claiming/speculating he's been taking it before getting suspended is a brain-dead take. There is no evidence of that prior to him getting popped in 2022.

Love him or hate him Tatis is the one player you cannot help but focus on. If it were to choose between Tatis or Soto I would have chosen Tatis all day long. I understand Soto is doing well with the Yankees but I never felt I just had to watch his at-bats like I do with Tatis. Well, it just is not exciting to watch an over-selective slugger opt for a walk with runners in scoring position. Sometimes you need to expand your strike zone and put the ball in play to drive in a run with an out. I feel if you are a slugger or someone who can single-handedly impact the game with a swing or two you need to be more aggressive at the plate when you have runners in scoring position. This means you may need to expand your strike zone. It's fine to be selective with no one on base. Walks are fine but they are far from being exciting. I don't mind a strikeout or two if the guy is being aggressive. That's what you get with Tatis, which makes him a far more exciting player. Plus Soto's defense and base running comes nowhere near Tatis.
@malkinmalone
@malkinmalone 2 месяца назад
Im taking Soto over Tatis any day of the week. Soto is a better hitter, better fielder, better team mate and seemingly makes better life choices than Tatis.
@yang-it-yin7002
@yang-it-yin7002 2 месяца назад
@malkinmalone I will admit Juan Soto is far more mature and has better judgment than Tatis. And has been a more durable player than Tatis. This is important because it doesn't matter how good you are if you are not on the field or in the lineup. As far as who is a better teammate I cannot say since my only knowledge is not first-hand. I cannot offer an honest assessment from second or third-hand accounts and sources to determine either way. Let's just say Soto is. Defensively I have to disagree that Soto is not a better defensive player than Tatis Jr. Tatis has better range and a stronger more accurate arm. The guy did not win a platinum glove by accident last year. He did so even after a position change. There were countless balls hit into the gap where Tatis was able to hold the batter to a long single rather than a double if it were Soto in the position. Tatis even had runners thrown out at first after lining the ball to right field. Not sure if Soto was such a player before his Padres career, all I know is what I witnessed first-hand by seeing every single game he had as a Padre. I know Soto has a tremendous on-base percentage and has an incredible command of the strike zone. That's undeniable! Both players have similar power numbers with Tatis having a better HR per At bat than Soto. Soto has a career total of 162 HR in 2754 at-bats. Tatis has 110 HR in 1668 at-bats. 52 less in over a thousand fewer plate appearances Tatis has a slightly higher slugging percentage while Soto has a much better on-base percentage. Tatis is a Legit 5-tool player while Soto is a 2 or 3-tool player at best. As far as base running goes, there is no contest Tatis by far is a better base runner. If a ball is hit in the gap it is more likely that Tatis would score from first than Soto. Soto has just a handful of stolen bases which you would think he would have accumulated much more due to his frequency of being on base. Tatis has above-average speed, hell he even stole home standing-up last year. Don't get me wrong, I would love to still have Soto on the Padres. Of course, I would. But if I had to choose one over the other I still would choose Tatis even if he is not the sharpest tool in the shed, but he is a shiny one.

Hi there...first of all, thank you very much for watching. We do appreciate it. Padres won the craziest game of the year. Then we talked about Elly (he plays in the midwest). Snell was an obvious choice to talk about. Have you ever seen a player sign a ball DURING an at bat?? (I hadn't either, that's why we discussed it). And we always talk about kids to who get extensions whether they play in Boston, KC or Colorado (we did Tovar this year too). Some shows do favor the coasts. We discuss the most important topics of the day.

Whether on the IL or off-season, etc. Granted, I love Tatis Jr., but I do take solace/comfort that he was at least popped when he was NOT active. Unlike so many others. Still wrong, not condoning it by any means, but it's easier to get past when you put it in that context. Just my .02
